Today's Glenn Beck Thread : Imagine Romney or Giuliani in last nights debate
Streaming Guide ^

Posted on 10/08/2008 6:39:00 AM PDT by Scythian

Glenn is beside himself today. He made a great observation "Imagine how different the debate would have been had Romney or Giuliani been our candidate".

Of course Nationalizing mortgages among other things has him going, but he also said as if coming from McCain "Screw you conservatives, I gave you Palin". Well Beck says it's time to find out now who we are ..."

His point about working now to simply try and avoid filibuster proof majorities is spot on.

We are in deep doo-doo, folks. Deep.

Shouldn’t have been townhall format, IMO. It doesn’t feel as comfortable taking off the gloves and assuming attack mode in that kind of environment. It’s too bad the first debate wasn’t the townhall and the one last night the more formal one.

The GOP serioulsy needs to reform the nomination process. The reason we have McCain is thanks to the losse, early nomination process that allows liberal states to essentialy weed out nominees that might do better in other states where the GOP base is stronger. If we don’t do anything about this by 2012, we’re screwed again.

Very true South Texan, McCain was nominated before real conservatives ever got a chance (by design no doubt), it seems we’re just useful idiots to have around ...

Of course we had to get rid of Giuliani because he dressed in drag one time, and Romney because he wears magic underwear.

Shouldn’t have been townhall format

It wasn't. The setting was townhall-like, but the moderating and questions were almost identical to the last two (VP included) podium debates. Browkaw even broke down and started asking his own questions about half way through.

Giuliani’s son wouldn’t even endorse him for President. Rudy’s family life was what did him in, though I do like him a lot.

Romney morphed himself into a right-wing Republican when the people are looking for a more moderate persona. Watching Romney campaign with the Hispanics in Florida was a painful thing to watch.

People are angry at the Wall Street melt-down, and want to see higher taxes on multi-millionaires and lower taxes on small companies.

Well, in either case, Romney and Giuliani could have removed themselves from the bailout disaster, standing with the citizens who were clearly against it. McCain could have chosen to go down that path, especially with the earmarks added to the Senate bill, but he chose not to.

Actually, we needed to get rid of both of them as they were as or more Liberal than McCain.

Yes, but the two candidates were so close to people. McCain is less likely to attack when in that close physical proximity to people who he’s trying to win over. It’s just not a comfortable venue or setting to bring up Ayers and so on. And I think he sensed that and that’s why he never took off the gloves.

Oh yeah, like this forum would support Giuliani. The man was trashed as much as McCain was for not being conservative enough.

That was my exact thought when I read the headline.

A large contingent of FReepers consistently attacked the other candidates all through the process. It happened to Rudy, Romney, Huckabee and some of the lesser lights. All in favor of supporting Hunter (who never really had a chance) or Fred (who never really wanted a chance).

So our choice in the next three weeks is to 1) concede to Obama because we don't like McCain, or 2) continue to fight for McCain because he's still the better (if not best) choice.

We're facing liberal control of the executive and legislative branch (and very possibly the judicial branch). Reality is we're screwed either way, but a Sarah Palin Vice Presidency at least provides some hope.

The campaign for 2010 control of the Congress begins on November 5. And that just sux.

Romney would have been the best Republican candidate in this economy. And, it is the one issue where he doesn't pander. With his Harvard MBA and JD as well as extensive successful business experience, Romeny would have annihilated Obama.

Speaking of Brokaw, I saw him on MSNBC this morning and he looked pretty happy with himself. He said something about the economy being pretty good for ten years or so, now it’s not good and people are ready for a change. I wanted to reach through the screen and slap him. I don’t know why the McCain campaign would agree to have people with an agenda running the debates.

The candidates that we have ended up with are a very good expression of our much declined culture. Could not have been any other way. The only way out/up is to reverse our cultural spiritual decline. It is so bad that most of the people here(FR) don’t even realize it.
People want “compassionate” candidates/officials who will pander to and accommodate their covetousness, envy, jealousy, bitterness. People want someone(government) to pick up after their irresponsible and profligate living. They want someone to make sure that there are abortions available. Etc. Until this crap change we continue the slide. There is no other way.

I am one of the more pessimistic members of this forum, but come on, the election hasn't been held yet. And a lot could still happen in the next 27 days. I think the speeches by Palin on Obama and his background may actually be getting traction with the voters.

Rass has McCain picking up two points on O while O holds at 51.

Zogby has the O up by only TWO points. This is far from a landslide.

Of course with idiots mouthing the democrat talking points that the election is over in hopes of getting republicans to stay home and make it so, is sad.

Gulliani may not be “conservative enough”, but at least he will fight for the job. John McCain says over and over that he would rather “lose and election than lose a war”. The “war” is now defined as the direction this country will be taken in the next 8 years and John McCain is not interested in fighting. He is saying “Screw America!, I have my reputation to think about.”. We bought a ticket on the Straight Talk Express, but now it looks like the trip has been cancelled.

I've said in the past that conservatives need to leave blue states like Maine, New York, California, and live in battleground states. If conservatives could control 30 plus states, they'd have enough of a state-wide coalition to overcome much of the federal government's interference in our lives. Plus there would be 60 or more conservative senators, enough to stop any left-wing nonsense from becoming law.

I honestly think that Giuliani was the GOP's best bet against Obama. Rudy would not have put up with all of the crap that has come out of the Obama/DEM campaign.

A much as I love Palin, I tend to agree with you. Jindal seems to be a better articulator of conservative principles, at least from what I’ve heard so far.

But to be fair, she’s been forced to parrot McCain’s position on this campaign.

It is interesting to look at the population breakdown in this nation and to see just how much control over the nation conservatives could have if we were smart enough to band together. The current presidential electoral college favors the democrats. The democrat nominee needs only to carry what 17 or 18 states to win? If conservatives controled the remaining 33 states, the senate is the place where all left wing crap can be killed off. So we’ve got options if the left decides to go Karl Marx on us in the event the messiah wins. Hopefully, McCain pulls this out. Or should I say Palin. she seems to be the one fighting the good fight these days.

The leftist media feared Romney and worked hard to take him out early. They have always built up McCain because they know he wouldn't ignite much enthusiasm.

Senators are talkers, not leaders. There is a reason America doesn't pick Presidents from the Senate and these two proved it last night.

Sounds like a typical ploy to keep one tuned into his show. If something "hugh" was really going down, he wouldn't have waited until after the break. My guess is we'll be disappointed in what he says after the break.

Please keep us posted. Thanks.
