SNL on Thursday? Political satire special set for primetime
Thursday night's SNL special begins at 8:30 p.m. on NBC
Just in time for an election.
“..>I look forward to them making fun of Hussein Obomber and Obiden...”
It is treason and racist to mock Dear Leader!
Off with your head!
I wonder who’ll get to do the lesbian kiss with Tina Fey to mock Sarah?
Yet another reason to be out tonight.
I thought it started on Today this morning. They have Gibbs and Nicole Wallace on after a whitewash of the Ayers connection. They go to Gibbs first so he can answer. Then they go to Wallace and, surprise surprise, she can’t hear the host or Gibbs so they just go back to Gibbs. Pure sabotage. Gibbs then throws out “erratic” about 10 times. They finally get to Wallace but she can’t directly answer Gibbs because she hasn’t heard a word he’s said.
A here to before unknown special to co-inside with McCain’s unleashing of the genie?
How quaint....
I suspect it will be the greatest hits through the years, along with one new skit.
Going up against Baseball, not sure how many will watch.
Opposite Thursday night college football? I guess I’ll miss it.
And NBC is going to book this as a contribution to the Obama campaign, right?
airing edited versions, I presume
I want to see an Ayers/ Obama dope smoking bit.
Or, to watch that 'Lost' DVD. Four episodes (including a central character death) and then special features.
Beats two-bit leftist 'comedians' preening each other on their 'nuance' and 'subtlety' when they couldn't utter a witty line if Oscar Wilde wrote it for them.
And no, they wouldn't understand a Dorothy Parker line.
Be careful what you wish for from SNL. Just because they’ve done a couple of skits that poked fun at Democrats dosen’t mean they’ve necessarily “seen the light”.
I’m sure they will turn on McCain/Palin now because of all the heat they’ve gotten from their recent diversion into the truth. They are still Obama supporters. If they had really wanted to tell the whole truth in that skit, they should have brought out the connection between Obama and Fannie Mae. That was left out.
SNL has from time to time, done some great skits about liberals and Dems. The reason, I think, that those skits make such a impact is because they actually hit on some truth. When we see SNL do it our reaction is “Wow! They get it!” And, the skit is funny because in order for something to be funny there must be an element of truth in it.
On the other hand, whenever SNL, David Letterman, Bill Mahr, etc. mock Republicans, it’s always a caricature they’ve made up to represent Republicans. It’s rarely based on any truth, but they want to create in the minds of viewers that this is who Republicans are (i.e. Bush is Dumb, Reagan’s senile, raging idiot, Sarah Palin’s a hick, etc.). So, it’s not just because we are conservative that we don’t think Bill Mahr’s political humor is funny - no, it’s because it really isn’t funny because there is no real truth in the humor. He’s mocking his own version of the “truth” and wants his viewers to buy into his version of the truth (or, it could also be that he’s just an idiot).
We laugh at lawyer jokes because there is some truth in the underlying premise of the jokes made up about them. Some SNL political skits truly resonate because they stumble into some truth. I always enjoy it when they do, but it bothers me, too, because I realize that someone working there does see the truth, but then are willing to ignore it and continue to perpetuate the non-truthful caricatures of Republicans. Sure they get some laughs from local New York audiences, but it doesn’t resonate with everyone.
I will be meeting with my brothers in Christ from 7:00 to 9:00 tonight. That’s reason enough to miss just about anything on TV.
