High Court Grants Gay Marriage Rights (Connecticut)
The Hartford Courant ^ | October 10, 2008 | Mark Spencer

Posted on 10/10/2008 9:07:05 AM PDT by raybbr

Same-sex couples won the right to marry in Connecticut in an historic ruling by the Supreme Court today.

Citing the equal protection clause of the state constitution, the justices ruled that civil unions were discriminatory.

In a 4-3 decision released at 11:30 a.m., the majority wrote that the state's "understanding of marriage must yield to a more contemporary appreciation of the rights entitled to constitutional protection."

"Interpreting our state constitutional provisions in accordance with firmly established equal protection principles leads inevitably to the conclusion that gay persons are entitled to marry the otherwise qualified same sex partner of their choice," the majority wrote. "To decide otherwise would require us to apply one set of constitutional principles to gay persons and another to all others."

In a statement released minutes after the decision was announced, Gov. M. Jodi Rell said she disagreed with it, but would uphold it. She said she was proud to sign the state's civil unions law in 2005, the first in the nation enacted without a court mandate, and thought it was "equitable and just."

So much for the naive “conservatives” who think civil unions are an appropriate compromise. In the first place, they aren't a compromise, since they're marriages in everything except the name. Second, the left simply uses their existence to assert that there's a “segregated” double system which can only be rectified by same-sex “marriage”.

The only way to stop this nonsense would be to flat-out assert that homo unions are unnatural and not worthy of the respect accorded to normal unions. But, no, that would be “divisive” said the “moderates”, and combined with the libertarians, they gave us civil unions. Which in turn will give us the whole leftist agenda on homosexuality issues.

"High Court Grants Gay Marriage Rights (Connecticut"

Gee, this wouldn't have anything to do with our nation's moral and financial meltdown would it? The truth is, God will turn away from an evil nation; we can't slaughter His babies, ridicule the marriage He instituted, and generally walk away from God's universal laws and expect that the resulting moral meltdown won't also cause a financial meltdown. Next up, if this isn't enough to make man change his ways, will be the increased wars, droughts and natural disasters. But even then, will the hard hearted people of this generation turn themselves back to God? Or will they look for the resurrection of their 401Ks?

I just filled out my Mail in Ballot this morning...
And circled a big YES on Proposition 8!

Had to tell my mother that YES means no to Propositon 8...

She thought writing in NO meant NO to Gay Marriage! YIKES

I hope this does not confuse the folks...

Same one vote margin like in California. Connecticut has NO initiative to allow voters to overturn it. The only way same sex marriage can be imposed in this country is when liberal judges impose it. That's why state constitutions have to be amended to prevent them from finding a "right" in the state constitution that allows gays to marry.

Equal protection clause. That opens the doors for just about anything.

Notice that matters of morality are now considered solely as matters of opinion. The notion of God and His commandments and the consequences of ignoring these is simply not a part of the national discourse.

You are exactly right. Ignore the basis of sound character and judgment and you wind up with the confusion and chaos we see around us right now.

But the only ones who will listen are those who already believe and understand this. The majority - a very large majority - will either ignore you or villify you or advocate for your persecution. They always have.

The only thing that might turn people is a calamity that forces them to turn to the Lord for salvation because they can’t find salvation among men. We have seen this happen over and over again. But it appears today that even disaster isn’t enough to do the trick. Rather than turn to God people decide to turn on each other and regain their former “glory” by eliminating those who are imagined to be to blame for their current suffering. And among these will be those who dared to point out their condition is the result of their own stubborn pride, greed, lust and anger - their own godlessness.

Of course. Both the Massachusetts and Connecticut state constitutions are silent on marriage. But somehow the state supremes infer that what they don't explicitly forbid, they somehow mandate. Where did they get that idea? For the first 200 plus years of American history, it occurred to no one that same sex marriage was a constitutional right. EVER!

Ok right

half of the homo’s who pushed for their sham perverted marriage went for divorce and in other states as they thought if I get a divorce here then they will have had to accept my homo marriage thus making way for a lawsuit for homo marriage in this state.
Look up RI

Homo’s went to the catholic charities to adopt, now they could have gone to many other adoption agencies but they chose a group which they knew would say no

in the end this is not about marriage nor is it about adopting
they were just pushing their agenda

Now the arguments they used for civil unions could and should be used for normal straight couples

The arguments they sued for homo sham marriage can be used to have more than one wife or husband or even animals

Now what is needed is for people to go to court and use their arguments in the courts.
the courts would have to accept these arguments if they had accepted homo marriage other wise discrimination lawsuits would go into affect.

This would wake even more people up why we need to say marriage is for one man between one woman nothing else

libertarians, hhmmmmm

I asked one on here who had no problem with homo marriage

they said the Govt should not get involved so I asked should the Govt get involved with a man marrying an animal(yes it has happened) should they get involved if a woman marries her son, or a man has 9 wives

guess what that libertarian said still no

astounding

fact is a line in the sand needs to be drawn as every argument the homo’s use can be sued for any kind of marriage or sex.

The sooner people vote these idiots out the better or actually move out of CT,MA or at least republicans should do

ah funny you say this

here in florida the question is 2

we need to have people vote yes on two meaning just one man and one woman will be married

so now the homo’s have put signs out saying no on 2 protect florida families and Jesus doesn’t discriminate

what the homo’s have done is trying to confuse people by their wording on their signs and it is disgusting to use Jesus as they usually make fun of Jesus

Yes, I hope it doesn't - like your confused statement: "Had to tell my mother that YES means no to Proposition 8..." ???

Why not just say, "if you oppose gay marriage, vote yes on 8."

"And among these will be those who dared to point out their condition is the result of their own stubborn pride, greed, lust and anger - their own godlessness."

Yes, it has become dangerous to speak the truth as seen through the eyes of Christianity today. I feel certain that when I make posts like the one you responded to that most people who read them are angered. What's truly frightening though is the fact that in my lifetime I have seen America in all her power and glory proudly call herself a "Christian nation", and then be turned up-side-down by an anti-Christian hysteria. When I was younger nobody had anything to fear about publicly declaring their Christian faith, because most Americans shared that faith and were proud of it. Why so many people can't see the connection between the governmental and cultural suppression of Christianity and our moral and economic demise is confounding to me. How did this ever happen in so short a time?
