Alaska panel finds Palin abused power in firing
AP ^ | 10/10/08 | MATT APUZZO

Posted on 10/10/2008 7:10:26 PM PDT by frankjr

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Sarah Palin unlawfully abused her power as governor by trying to have her former brother-in-law fired as a state trooper, the chief investigator of an Alaska legislative panel concluded Friday. The politically charged inquiry imperiled her reputation as a reformer on John McCain's Republican ticket.

Wow, what a surprise...Obama's cronies find Palin....well guilty...just like the panel determined before any investigation. LOL, what a joke!

Well, no the report didn’t. The report actually says ...

Governor Palin’s firing of Commissioner Monegan was a proper and lawful exercise of her constitutional and statutory authority to hire and fire executive branch department heads.

The rest is eye wash.

Oh and thats not even the start of what this bozo did.

The report found that Palin let the family grudge influence her decision-making even if it was not the sole reason Monegan was dismissed.

The fundamental thrust of the report is that when your wife says "don't do that" you better obey else she will be violating the law.

I swear this was written by Michelle Obama!

Two things come immediately to mind. First the report includes as evidence of her violation of Alaska ethics law actions she took before she was governor. Secondly the report never does state just how she benefited or her family benefited from her actions or how her actions were actually detrimental to Wooten. Calling up and requesting status reports and saying why you think someone is unfit to serve is sure as hell not the same as trying to illegally or unethically influence a course of action. No one said that they made a finding because they feared retribution by Palin or because they had been promised compensation for doing so. So where the hell is this so called violation?

Also what the heck does a divorce judge’s snarky remark about Palin’s sister’s earning capacity and Wooten’s possible job loss have to do with anything at all. That should be stricken from the record as irrelevant. I mean is Branchflower claiming this is proof that Palin was using her office to get Wooten fired?

The whole thing is major BS and I hope Palin strongly rebukes the findings.

Doesn't sound like abuse to me!

Sounds like due diligence!

What if this guy had done something even worse than the things he had already done. Then the state would be facing a lawsuit. You just can't keep a bad cop on the job and expect the public to respect the law.

It should be spun as a HUGE positive:

McCain should immediately release a statement:

“When Sarah sees a wrong, she will act within her power and within the law to right it, even if it is unpopular and questioned by the good ‘ol boy cronies of the political establishment. Imagine if we had her fighting along side me against the corruption in Fannie/Freddie many years ago.”

McCain/Palin can not afford to let the negative spin on this story dominate even a single news cycle.

Hit back hard and use it show that a strong-willed reformer such as Sarah would have blown the whistle on the Democrats in congress and their myopia that led to the financial meltdown.

Look, when you take on the mafia or the Weather Underground, you're going to get a little push back. Sarah took on both parties up there and this is her reward for doing so. At the end of the day, though, this is nickel poker. Hillary has dust bunnies in her closet 10x the size of this.

Even if you take at face value (which you shouldn't) that Sarah did something wrong, it doesn't mean that Troopergate = Ayers. Let's review:

Troopergate = Sarah (and Todd) look out for their family. May have overstepped a fuzzy ethical line in the process.

Ayers = Obama hooks up with unrepentant murders and terrorists to further his political career. Disburses millions of dollars to left-wing outfits like ACORN when said career takes off.

Which one would you trust as a leader?

I think this is very misleading...it says the "panel" found these things out, but when you read the report, it is merely the ONE investigator hired by the panel who is saying to the panel, "Yeah, Palin is guilty of ethics violation, but what she did was legal...and by the way I'm too gutless to recommend anything..."

The panel would be free to ignore or come to a different conclusion, no? Who says the investigator's word is LAW?

Well, as usual, the lead paragraph is a flat-out lying smear.

But if you read the article, it is fairly factual further down the page—which, of course, most people won’t bother to read.

Sarah Palin did call and ask that this trooper be fired—but that was before she was governor. The most they can accuse her of is that she didn’t stop Todd Palin from continuing to complain to the authorities that he wasn’t fired. But that’s his right as a citizen and as a concerned family member—especially since this trooper tasered his young nephew and threatened to shoot his father!

And his creepy stalking of teenage Bristol and getting in her face and cursing her in front of her teenage friends at a school sports event. Small stuff like that. By an armed state trooper,

Absolutely, Sarah refused to let the cronies cover up for a bad apple. She pushed to get rid of the rot before it caused any more trouble. Too bad she wasn't there in Washington 4 years ago to take names and kick some butt.

I am ready to scream.

The RATS claim: “Sarah acted within her rights... so it’s ABUSE OF POWER!”
The RAT press reports it, but drops the “within her rights” part.
The RAT candidate will no doubt spin this so she looks like the most corrupt person in office since Richard Nixon (since of course, no Democrat can POSSIBLY be corrupt, even if they have a safe full of cash in their office).

But, hey... maybe it can all end up in court, where the RAT judges will mandate a law be passed immediately by the RAT politicians shutting up anyone who doesn’t tow the line.

Am I getting paranoid and freaking out, or is all this getting really dangerous to the future of our country and anything resembling a free society as we’d like to imagine we live in?

As I understand it, it's two different ‘charges’ they ruled on.

She supposedly used ‘abuse of power’ to try to get her ex brother in law fired, but on the second issue - she was ‘within her rightful power’ to fire Commissioner Monegan.

Assuming that she did, how does that violate the ethics statute? Does the ethics statute really have anything to do with that situation? It’s not clear to me that it does. This decision is a real stretch.
