ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Sarah Palin unlawfully abused her power as governor by trying to have her former brother-in-law fired as a state trooper, the chief investigator of an Alaska legislative panel concluded Friday. The politically charged inquiry imperiled her reputation as a reformer on John McCain's Republican ticket.

I am so surprised.
Well, no the report didn’t. The report actually says ...
Governor Palins firing of Commissioner Monegan was a proper and lawful exercise of her constitutional and statutory authority to hire and fire executive branch department heads.
The rest is eye wash.
They’d prefer to keep troops who threaten to kill family members and taze their 10 year old kids be kept on the force.
Oh and thats not even the start of what this bozo did.
HUH? It says that?
Refute it, then forget about it. Palin’s popularity will not be hurt.
Remember this election is about Obama. Attack, attack, attack.
Matt Apuzzo is an illiterate space cadet who can’t read. Since he’s an Obamanoid Tingler that works for Obama’s Ass. Press, I’ll bet he didn’t even TRY to read the report.

Have you got a link? :)
Yes, it’s no surprise. Sarah ruffled a few feathers in the Alaska good-ol’-boy’s club and now it’s payback time.
Nobama will have an attack ad out within the hour.
"Mindreaders find Palin Guilty"
I swear this was written by Michelle Obama!
Two things come immediately to mind. First the report includes as evidence of her violation of Alaska ethics law actions she took before she was governor. Secondly the report never does state just how she benefited or her family benefited from her actions or how her actions were actually detrimental to Wooten. Calling up and requesting status reports and saying why you think someone is unfit to serve is sure as hell not the same as trying to illegally or unethically influence a course of action. No one said that they made a finding because they feared retribution by Palin or because they had been promised compensation for doing so. So where the hell is this so called violation?
Also what the heck does a divorce judges snarky remark about Palins sisters earning capacity and Wootens possible job loss have to do with anything at all. That should be stricken from the record as irrelevant. I mean is Branchflower claiming this is proof that Palin was using her office to get Wooten fired?
The whole thing is major BS and I hope Palin strongly rebukes the findings.
Sounds like due diligence!
What if this guy had done something even worse than the things he had already done. Then the state would be facing a lawsuit. You just can't keep a bad cop on the job and expect the public to respect the law.
Thanks for the summary. I didn’t want to read the nonsense since I know there’s nothing here.
crAP lying headline.
Too bad these AP jerks leave out the part where they conclude the firing was “proper and lawful”. This can be easily spun.
“Nobama will have an attack ad out within the hour.”
Obama would be best to ignore this, if he doesn’t I think Rev.Wright will soon be invited to the party.
Which bad news are these Obama flunkies more interested in?
She might become the next VP of the U.S. with some power over their sorry donkeys.
She and McC might lose this run; in which case, Sarah will continue to be the Governator of Alaska with lots of power over their sorry donkeys.
Smart move you dumb basses, what a bunch of chowderheads.
If someone who has a personal relationship with my family is a threat to society, I won't report it to anyone who can do something about it.
It should be spun as a HUGE positive:
McCain should immediately release a statement:
“When Sarah sees a wrong, she will act within her power and within the law to right it, even if it is unpopular and questioned by the good ‘ol boy cronies of the political establishment. Imagine if we had her fighting along side me against the corruption in Fannie/Freddie many years ago.”
McCain/Palin can not afford to let the negative spin on this story dominate even a single news cycle.
Hit back hard and use it show that a strong-willed reformer such as Sarah would have blown the whistle on the Democrats in congress and their myopia that led to the financial meltdown.
Even if you take at face value (which you shouldn't) that Sarah did something wrong, it doesn't mean that Troopergate = Ayers. Let's review:
Troopergate = Sarah (and Todd) look out for their family. May have overstepped a fuzzy ethical line in the process.
Ayers = Obama hooks up with unrepentant murders and terrorists to further his political career. Disburses millions of dollars to left-wing outfits like ACORN when said career takes off.
Which one would you trust as a leader?
The Obama strategy is pure Alinsky: Put enough lawyers in dumpsters and you can always find something.
And what a lovely party it’s turning into so far,eh?
Ayers....ACORN....Rezko....Fannie/Freddie/Raines....
Jump in,Wright! Time for your baptism! LOL
If Nobama is dumb enough to come out with an ad about McCain’s owning “non-american” cars, they’ll bite at anything they think will knock McCain-Palin completely out of the running. One thing about it,however: when people are desperate, they tend to slip up and stumble.Let’s pray that happens with Nobama.
Yes, its no surprise. Sarah ruffled a few feathers in the Alaska good-ol-boys club and now its payback time.
Yes, and if McCain/Palin become Prez/VP, then those ruffled feathers might just find out that payback is a two way street.
Unlawful? That’s an awfully strong word to be throwing around in a news story.
Classic AP...
Anybody know how I can complain to AP about their lying smear of Palin?
Reference ping
The panel would be free to ignore or come to a different conclusion, no? Who says the investigator's word is LAW?
Oh,hey,I agree with you...don’t read me wrong. I just view this as an attempt by those who had their little mukluks stepped on by the pitbull to cause her trouble and sabotage her VP candidacy.Hitlery doesn’t have dust bunnies in her closet...she’s got Sasquatch in there.
BTW...the one I would trust?
Sarah,hands down. I love her.
As far as i’m concerned,there’s only one Troopergate,and that’s all Clinton-period.This is a tempest in a teapot.
It’s also laughable that this news report neglects to mention what the trooper did to his family.
Classic media bias.
“Yes, and if McCain/Palin become Prez/VP, then those ruffled feathers might just find out that payback is a two way street.”
Works for me!!!!!
And just who do you think will invite him? So far, no 527s are doing it, and we know that McCain sure as hell won't....
Well, as usual, the lead paragraph is a flat-out lying smear.
But if you read the article, it is fairly factual further down the page—which, of course, most people won’t bother to read.
Sarah Palin did call and ask that this trooper be fired—but that was before she was governor. The most they can accuse her of is that she didn’t stop Todd Palin from continuing to complain to the authorities that he wasn’t fired. But that’s his right as a citizen and as a concerned family member—especially since this trooper tasered his young nephew and threatened to shoot his father!

Un-effing-believable!
The “personal gain” part is just an opinion, not fact. The whole report is very subjective and a waste of time.
Trying to have her former brother-in-law fired as a state trooper was judged “Abuse of Power”.
Governor Palins firing of Commissioner Monegan was a proper and lawful exercise of her constitutional and statutory authority to hire and fire executive branch department heads.
This AP hack neglects to mention Wooten’s death threat against Sarah’s father and his threar to “get” her family.
And his creepy stalking of teenage Bristol and getting in her face and cursing her in front of her teenage friends at a school sports event. Small stuff like that. By an armed state trooper,
Barack and his buddies Harry and Nancy will continue to let the bad ACORNS rot our political system and siphon billions from the financial markets.
I am ready to scream.
The RATS claim: “Sarah acted within her rights... so it’s ABUSE OF POWER!”
The RAT press reports it, but drops the “within her rights” part.
The RAT candidate will no doubt spin this so she looks like the most corrupt person in office since Richard Nixon (since of course, no Democrat can POSSIBLY be corrupt, even if they have a safe full of cash in their office).
But, hey... maybe it can all end up in court, where the RAT judges will mandate a law be passed immediately by the RAT politicians shutting up anyone who doesn’t tow the line.
Am I getting paranoid and freaking out, or is all this getting really dangerous to the future of our country and anything resembling a free society as we’d like to imagine we live in?
.
State politics can be sticky
There is one Governor that said “This will end up on my desk!”
And she did not run for re-election because she knew she would lose!
It was dumb to get me irritated.....
A Commissioner got bounced too!
She supposedly used ‘abuse of power’ to try to get her ex brother in law fired, but on the second issue - she was ‘within her rightful power’ to fire Commissioner Monegan.
I read the statute, and I have no idea how the legislative counsel came to his decision.
Massive Yawn. AP stands for @ss Pirates.
Sorry, I got three pings at once and somehow missed this one of yours!
[It was dumb to get me irritated.....]
I am confused about your comment. Was that you or another Governor, lol?
“The report found that Palin let the family grudge influence her decision-making”
Assuming that she did, how does that violate the ethics statute? Does the ethics statute really have anything to do with that situation? It’s not clear to me that it does. This decision is a real stretch.
It is really sad that this how low reporters have stooped.
They run someone against her, claiming she abused her power. The Democrats play dirty. Just accept it, because it’s true.
