PHILADELPHIA (AFP) — Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama on Saturday thanked his Republican rival John McCain for urging supporters to be respectful and stop hurling abuse at Obama at his rallies.

"Now, I want to acknowledge that Senator McCain tried to tone down the rhetoric yesterday in his town hall meeting and I appreciate his reminder that we can disagree while still being respectful of each other," Obama said.

“We want to fight, and I will fight, but we will be respectful. I admire Senator Obama and his accomplishments and I will respect him,” McCain told a Minnesota rally.

“I want everyone to be respectful and let’s make sure we are, because that is the way that politics should be conducted in America,” McCain said.

Obama spoke on the first of a blitz of four rallies in Philadelphia on Saturday -- 24 days before the election.

That line right there is interesting when you consider that PA supposedly has Obama way ahead in the public polls at least, why would Obama be blitzing through Philly to stir up votes if that was completely true.

if there is any mention of his cousin Odinga after Ayers well, that will be incitement as well.

CALLING OBAMA A RESPECTABLE FAMILY MAN THAT WE NEED NOT FEAR IS OUTRAGEOUS!

McCAIN TAKING THE ABUSE AND INSULTS FROM OBAMA AND REFUSING TO FIGHT BACK IS OUTRAGEOUS!

WE’RE NOT TURNING THE WHITE HOUSE KEYS OVER TO BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA- NOT IF WE ON FR, RUSH, HANNITY AND FOX HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH IT!

FReep McCAIN/ MSM OUT.

HOW LONG CAN THEY IGNORE A MILLION EMAILS??

.

McCain is losing this campaign because he refuses to fight Obama and his lies, and dirty tactics such as ACORN voter fraud. He’s just been rolling over (or bending over, I should say) and accepting the abuse heaped upon him- and expecially Sarah Palin.
The anemic attempts by the McCain camp to fight back within the last few days just ain’t gonna get it.
He should have been hitting Obama back hard months ago.
He needs to get out there every day and FIGHT BACK.
Email Republican headquarters/McCain.

FReep ‘EM OUT!

CAN THEY IGNORE A MILLION EMAILS?

REMIND McCAIN THAT HE HAS AN OBLIGATION AS OUR CANDIDATE TO FIGHT BACK!
To h*ll with bipartisian BS!
To h*ll with PC!
To h*ll with ‘conducting a respectful campaign’as McCain has said, and vowed to do.

RESPECTFUL CAMPAIGNING WENT STRAIGHT OUT THE WINDOW WITH OBAMA’S NASTY, BRUTAL COMMENTS SUCH AS;
‘lipstick on a pig’ and ‘You can wrap AN OLD FISH in a piece of paper called change. It’s still going to stink after eight years.’

Take off the gloves, McCain!

Hit the Marxist/Muslim hard with Ayers, Acorn, Violation of Logan Act, abortion, 2nd admendment, Campaigning for Odinga!!
Get off the d*mned economy issue. State that Obama/Democrats/ACORN caused this meltdown. State McCain offered a proposal to avert the meltdown and GET OFF IT.
Obama is counting on keeping this going to take the spotlight off his sordid past and dirty dealings!
NOTHING is more important than waking America up to this Marxist/Muslim!! DO IT. EXPOSE HIM!

I’ve long said that representatives are castrated when they become senators and it certainly seems to be the case with McCain.

Should have picked a representative as a candidate despite the fact that they “can’t win”.

There have been some recent polls that showed while people tended to distrust Obama more than McCain on telling the whole truth, they also by a rather large margin think that McCain is running the more "negative" campaign.

IF McCain and the campaign continue to bring up the valid open questions about some of his associations, ACORN etc., then McCain being "respectful" to Obama in public may make certain people pay more attention to certain things and ask themselves questions. Remember that McCain cannot fight in this election with quite the same type of rhetoric that we on FreeRepublic may choose if he wants any chance.

McCain on Friday called on his backers to tone it down, after crowds at his rallies have become increasing inflammatory shouting out "terrorist" and "liar" when Obama is mentioned. At one Florida rally, someone even shouted "kill him."

The US Secret Service said it was investigating the alleged death threat.

These are Democrat plants trying to make us look bad.  I'm glad McCain said something.  We are not the party of Kos and DU!

Yes Obama wants his supporters to get in the face of Independents and Republicans, and Obama said, “If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun,” Obama said in Philadelphia last night. “Because from what I understand, folks in Philly like a good brawl. I’ve seen Eagles fans.”

Red Steel reminded me of this quote from the peaceful one last night.

Look, we all know McCain is not a conservative. He's not going to hammer Obama. So events like this is not unexpected. I have very low expectations abut debate #3 (I will skip it).

The fact is that we have to get McCain over the finish line, and then we can deal with opposing his agenda as best we can, and rebuilding the conservative movement.

None of that can happen is Obama wins and Dems have a veto-proof majority.

I wish FreeRepublic would show the poll taken here early on asking which candidate freepers and others preferred on the GOP ticket. I seem to recall McCain being near the bottom of the list. Didn't Ron Paul even beat him among "registered" Freepers? You talk about voter fraud, it started way back in the primaries. Think I'll go back to my old tag.
