I like your line of thinking. Diesel “keeps” much longer, plus the reduced RPM of the plant helps with longevity. As far as baseload plants are concerned, Nuclear is the ONLY way to go. The Westinghouse/Toshiba and GE/Hitatchi designs are the ones that seem to be garnering the most interest. I personally prefer PWR designs myself. The Westinghouse APC1000 design would be best, proven modular design that can be cranked out like cookies. Your right about the transmission/distrubtion though, we’re working off a nearly century old system that is being pushed past its original limits.
