McCain Letter Demanded 2006 Action on Fannie and Freddie

Sen. John McCain's 2006 demand for regulatory action on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac could have prevented current financial crisis, as HUMAN EVENTS learned from the letter shown in full text below.

McCain's letter -- signed by nineteen other senators -- said that it was "...vitally important that Congress take the necessary steps to ensure that [Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac]...operate in a safe and sound manner.[and]..More importantly, Congress must ensure that the American taxpayer is protected in the event that either...should fail."

Sen. Obama did not sign the letter, nor did any other Democrat.

I agree. As a contributor I also want to see this put into a commercial with the important language highlighted and the letter should be available on the McCain/Palin website. This is good stuff and McCain needs to mention it every chance he gets.

What I’d like to see is a copy of the letter Obama claims to have sent someone warning about the Fannie/Freddie problem. He’s made that claim a couple of times and no one asks for proof.

I have seen the letter, tsmith. Someone posted it here, though I can’t remember who.

What it had to do with was calling for some kind of “summit” (he likes that word) to keep people in houses that were being foreclosed on, and nothing to do with reining in Fannie and Freddie, if I recall correctly.

Bring the letter to the next debate and make Obama show the people where his name is on it. Make Obama explain Raines. Make Obama explain ACORN. Make Obama explain Ayers. Enough debate, make Obama explain his associations and past votes. John needs to understand that the media nor Rats really care what solutions he proposes, they won't report it fairly, so he needs to go for all out and make Obama explain.
