My children's birthdays. My wife's birthday. One daughter's wedding. Another daughter's graduation. My son's first date. My daughter reaching puberty (yes, even this). Thanksgiving. Christmas. New Years. My 20th anniversary. My daughter joining the military. Wearing my civilian clothes. Swimming pools. Texas. Sitting with my wife and doing absolutely nothing. Playing with the grandkids. Fishing. Hanging curtains. My wife's cooking! Wife's honey-do list. My entire family. Driving MY car. NOT walking 50 yards in the middle of the night to pee. Rain. Grass. Privacy. A comfortable bed. Baths. Seeing the American flag all over. but mostly I'd say my wife.

I ask you now to do something: please say to two other American military members that One American Citizen said to say, “Thanks, and I salute you for what you’re doing and for what you are sacrificing.” And tell those two to each tell two others. It doesn’t matter who. Any two. And that they should spread this thanks onward the same way. That way it will be a voice, not an email, and they’ll hear it with their own ears, and maybe it will fan out to many ears and be meaningful. My name matters not at all. I was just thinking about you today. Not you personally, of course— :o) —but thinking about our troops serving in Iraq. We are so wrapped up with the election and financial woes that not much attention has been paid to you fine folks.
