Father, you are a God of truth and justice. You are not a man, that you should lie. You set kings up, and bring them down. And right now, Father, while acknowleging along with Jeff the sins of our nation against You, I humbly ask for Your mercy upon us. I ask for Your hand to be upon our nation now, as we go through this election cycle and deal with this financial crisis.
I ask for You to open the eyes of the American people to the truth, because many are blind. Please do not let the liars and the cheaters win. I’m asking right now, Lord God, for a miracle, and that the hearts of the people in this nation be turned back to You, that we may continue to be a force for Your good in this world. I pray that we will once again seek Your face and turn back to you.

I think that God would not be happy with the political pragmatism that is required for conservatives to vote for McCain.
conservatives aren’t happy about it either, but I think most of us are going to pull the lever for him on the promise that his running mate may add much needed conservative dialog to the office.
Whether you intended to or not, I think you wrongfully equate this election with an opportunity for God to show us his grace or wrath - and I assure you, there is no heavenly grace to be found in the election cycle, nor has there ever been, I suspect.
If obama gets in, that will convince me more than anything that this is the End.
Our Father will give us whatever we ask for, all we need do is ask in faith. Jesus will answer any request we make. And The Holy Spirit will inspire and sustain us in all our times of trial.
God works in mysterious ways His wonders to perform. We are so blessed to live in a nation founded on His generosity.

There is no salvation in politics. God sheds his grace on our nation through it’s citizens, not through the losers the GOP seems to nominate, time and again.

I agreee that there is not much good in most elections of this day...but there are exceptions. I believe Sarah Palin is one such exception and that the values she espouses and the view she takes are more aligned with what most of us believe God's purpose for this land is, and has been.
In any case, our attitudes, the true feelings of our hearts and motivations can and will invoke God's Hand and His blessings as He has promised.
Those words of His from II Chron 7:14 are not my words...they are His and I believe them I also believe, as it plainly states there, that there is much we MUST do to be in a position to invoke such a blessing and action by God.
That's what this thread is all about.

...and may we do all in our power to help that happen by educating, with reasoned dialog, and with prayers to God above to carry our message to the hearts of the people we contact, so that their eyes may indeed be opened.

If God’s hand was involved in this election cycle, then John McCain is His wrath, and His indignation is Obama.
That said, God doesn’t smite us with politicians, we do that to ourselves.
God won’t get us out of this mess we’ve made out of our country, either. But nevertheless, prayer about our earthly politics probably won’t hurt, but it’s not likely to help much either.
What will help is throwing the centrists in the GOP out of the party leadership and replacing them with committed constitutional conservatives. God will hopefully have prepared a few worthy souls to lead the GOP in the future.
I wouldn’t be upset if He would smite a few moderate republicans, Old Testament-style on their way off the political stage, but He didn’t ask me for my list.
I’ve been praying that the Lord keep our Nation safe, to protect us from laws and policy that increase abortion, and that if He will, we not be turned over to the equivalent of Nebuchadnezzar (who went insane after carrying the Jews off to Babylon).

I woke up this morning, literally praying for this nation. I just woke up and was mouthing prayers. I lay in bed praying and suddenly was compelled to get up, grab the Bible and read. I read John, Matthew and Joel. It was amazing what Joel talks about.
Once I finished Joel, I continued praying, interceding for this nation and asking for forgiveness for my sins in order to reach the throne of God with my requests. I truly believe if our hearts are pure and we are trying to live a godly life, the Lord will hear our prayers.

Yes! Amen and Amen!!! As quoted in 2 Chronicles 7:14 we are to seek His (God’s) face, not His feet (to do something for us) (nor His hands) but His face. And our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ said, “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; ......Matthew 6:33a. My prayer is, as a people and a nation, we will flee ungoliness and youthful lusts, and persue godliness and righteousness!
