Race Course Against White Supremacy

Race Course Against White Supremacy (Paperback)

by William C. Ayers (Author), Bernardine Dohrn (Author)

Editorial Reviews

Product Description
White supremacy and its troubling endurance in American life is debated in these personal essays by two veteran political activists. Arguing that white supremacy has been the dominant political system in the United States since its earliest days—and that it is still very much with us—the discussion points to unexamined bigotry in the criminal justice system, election processes, war policy, and education. The book draws upon the authors' own confrontations with authorities during the Vietnam era, reasserts their belief that racism and war are interwoven issues, and offers personal stories about their lives today as parents, teachers, and reformers.

About the Author
William C. Ayers is a distinguished professor of education and a senior university scholar at the University of  Illinois–Chicago. He is the author of To Teach: The Journey of a Teacher and Fugitive Days, a memoir about his life with his wife, Bernardine Dohrn. Bernardine Dohrn is the director of the Children and Family Law Justice Center and a clinical associate professor of law at Northwestern University. She is the coauthor of  A Century of Juvenile Justice and Justice in the Making. They live in Chicago.

When was this book released? I think this is terrible news for Obama. Now more Americans have a chance to learn who Ayers really is.

The thrust of a Comrade Zero presidency will be fighting against “White Privilege.”

Take it to mean you aren’t sufficiently shamed enough to be born white in a majority white country with a history of slavery.

By virtue of being white, you are guilty. No matter what.

Hands down the worst title I have ever seen for a book.
Sounds like something you’d find in the listings of a vanity press like “Vantage Press”.
Title makes it sound like a Thoroughbred Track in South Africa in the wake of Apartheid.

Bill Ayers “gets it.” Here’s what he understands:

One strategy to undermine culture is to discredit its values and history. Of course, reducing American history to a simplistic notion of “white supremacy” is absurd, but that’s the point. The point is to slowly undermine the confidence of people about the values and history of their own culture so they’ll be less willing to defend and protect it. Along the way, you’ve also created a structure of “them” (so-called “white” people, meaning, in this context, people from western and northern Europe) and “us” (everyone else). This creates internal conflict based on simple, easy to understand qualities like skin color.

There is poltical theory to back this up. Look up “the Frankfurt School” and “Antonio Gramscii” and see the roots of Ayers thesis.

Eventually, the culture becomes so disillusioned and split apart that an organized cadre of leaders can take control and establish a new kind of society - like the Bolsheviks did in 1917, or the National Socialists in 1933, or the followers of Mao in 1949. May a thousand flowers bloom.

SOP for the ACORN crowd. Look what they did for New Orleans (one of the organization's home cities) over the past 20 years or so, if you need a vivid example.

My daughter is about to interview at Northwestern Law School. I think I will have a little heart to heart talk with her. Hillary Clinton - Childrens advocate; Bernadine Dohrn - Children advocate: both lawyers from Ivy League law schools. Is that the gateway for women lawyers to the glass ceiling?

I think there is tremendous unresolved guilt in the self-renouncers. Didn't Bill Ayers feel badly that his dad was rich and feel the need to apologize for that? That's just a clue, but you see snippets of this again and again on the left.

Chomsky talks about his guilt in interviews, Soros writes about his guilt in his public advocacy for his political causes. I remember reading a bit of Rachel Corrie's journal, and the same sort of thing seemed to be there, right between the lines. She wondered how it was that she had so much and others had so little, things like that.

The self-renouncers transfer their guilt instinctively to others that they claim collective identity with. Then they can punish by directing rebuke at the group.

In a shallow adolescent manner, they loudly proclaim "how bad we are" which resonates with other guilty people. People who disagree are "in denial" and "part of the problem".

On a personal level, an authentic willingness to engage in self-criticism is valuable and a sign of maturity. The same is obviously not true of directing rebuke at others...but in this world it is too often mistaken for the same maturity, and characterized as being edgy and brave, i.e., "speaking truth to power".

It is really a pathetic and shallow sanctimonious act, well-played by Michael Moore (Stupid White Men) and Susan Sontag (White people as cancer) as well as these two counterculture throwbacks Ayers and Dohrn. Michael Pflager is doing the same show. It is almost like we are all being flashed when they do their schtick.

Seems like a good spot to link to this gem from Dr. Jack Wheeler...

Secret to the Suicidal Liberal Mind

It occured to me that certainly Ayers and Dohrn are in a class by themselves because they want to punish so badly that rebuke is not enough...they feel justified directed bombs at the group, not just rebuke. They are really sickening people.

directed = directing

(for those who read the link, Dr. Wheeler seems to discount guilt and emphasize appeasement as the motivation - I do disagree with him there as I think both contribute in a big way.)

THat was one fascinating article. I do thank you for posting the link to it.

It summarized something I have observed- that coveting is at the heart of our current political system. Of course, he fleshes out the theory way more than I have in my random thoughts over the years, although I did correctly see that the saul alyinski's of this world are simply projecting their own issues onto the rest of us, just as he says in the article. Its unfortunate that they seem to be on the verge of forcing the rest of us to play along.

It just goes to show how great and wonderful God is- He was so right about those 10 commandments ! Especially thou shall not covet.

They are inextricably linked- the appeasement is to try and control the other person from feeling envy, then you can help yourself avoid having to feel the guilt. The other person's envy triggers the liberal's guilt.

I feel almost giddy upon understanding this- its like the unifying theory of liberalism- it ties everything together and it all makes sense.

I love stuff like that- thanks again.

And I am praying that the Lord God will reveal the EVIL of Obama’s campaign, the EVIL designs he has on this country, and the MALICIOUS, DEVIOUS, EVIL man Obama is for all to see.

"Soros writes about his guilt in his public advocacy..."

Are you sure about this? I have read about Soros' activities in WWII selling out fellow Jews to the Nazis with quotations from him about experiencing no remorse whatsoever. I must take issue with the idea that leftists feel self-hatred. On the contrary, they seem to strongly externalize their hatred, toward others and be enormously self-satisfied, themselves and entirely convinced of their own self-righteousness. This is overwhelmingly true of the leftists I have known personally.

Wow! Thanks for that excellent insight. That makes so much sense and shows how the need to control others fits in.

Thanks for your comment. It's sort of amazing, really, how much effort that humans will put into trying to manipulate outside events/people just to try to avoid feeling something that is unpleasant.

I mean, it's just a feeling, just feel it and forget it! But here, we have a group that will do just about anything to not have to feel the uncomfortable feeling that they are envied in some way.

I had a Taoist teacher once who said that denial was the root of all evil. Now, I can actually see how that works.

Are you sure about this?

Yes, it surprised me that he was so candid about it, using that very word in a mailing I received some time ago.

they seem to strongly externalize their hatred, toward others and be enormously self-satisfied, themselves and entirely convinced of their own self-righteousness.

I think your word externalization ties in with this directly...I wrote "transfer", another way to put it might be "projection", which is the transference of unconscious contents, but externalization is another way to put it I suppose.

For some people patterns of guilt are so intense that they can't keep it all to themselves...it is too much to deal with. Transference makes it more bearable. Paraphrasing a FReeper who wrote many months ago on this subject (as if speaking in the first person), "See, I'm not the only guilty one...the whole society is guilty, we are all guilty". That somehow makes it easier to bear because it falls on many other shoulders.

Once they've identified the guilt in the society at large (imperialism, racism, sexism, exploitation, etc.) and made the case in their own minds, it's much more convenient for certain personality types to direct the punishment outwards on others.
