Quite probably, depending upon the age of the mother. It helps if both parents are US citizens. However, that's not the issue here. The issue is Obama's Natural Born Citizen status. Is being the child of a couple, only one of whom is a US citizen, born outside the jurisdiction of the USA, a "natural born US Citizen?" Basic to the theory as applied in this case is that, while Obama might be a US citizen, he wouldn't be a "natural born" us citizen because he was born outside the USA and granted birth citizenship in the British Commonwealth in Kenya.

Even if it turns out that Obama is a "natural born" US citizen -- let us say he actually was born in Hawaii, within the USA -- it is very possible that he lost that citizenship when his mother and step-dad took him to Indonesia and his mother became a naturalized Indonesian Citizen and his step dad adopted him. In this case, he would have lost his citizenship and could only have reestablished that citizenship through making an oath of allegiance to the USA on his 18th birthday. But, even then, he would be a naturalized -- or statutory -- citizen and, hence, not qualified for office.

I sent my own letter to the FEC asking why they were not requiring that Obama show proof of citizenship as required by the Constitution. I heard nothing back.

Not a stupid question at all. A constitutional requirement to be president is being a natural-born citizen. That's a higher threshold than just "citizen." Natural-born means born on US soil. US military bases and zones overseas are also considered US soil. Parents can confer citizenship to a child born overseas, but not the natural-born part. That's a function of geography. So my understanding of it is, it wouldn't matter if both parents were US citizens. If he was born in Kenya, he would not be a natural born citizen. The age of the mother is only an issue if he were born in Hawaii, as the automatic US citizenship that comes with being born on US soil has exceptions that fall in the date range that Batack was born.

Since it's never really been tested in the Supreme Court, I'm sure that everyone (meaning democrats) will want to just dismiss all that as antiquated technicality.

I happen to agree with your ideas re Obama. There was a real Imposter named Ferdinand de La Marra. His success was that he was brilliant and a cipher. He had no real personality but could assume not just a person’s occupation but his personality.He fooled the Canadian Navy into accepting him as a surgeon, and a state as a prison warden.
But the one thing he knew was that time would run out and he’d have to move on before being discovered. This is the difference with Obama. He’s working his magic on the world’s largest stage. I don’t think he’d threaten his own performance by leaving such gaping hole in his credentials.
