Teenager: I Registered To Vote 73 Times Ohio ACORN Lands In Hot Water

POSTED: 3:01 pm EDT October 13, 2008 UPDATED: 3:31 pm EDT October 13, 2008 A Cleveland teenager who claims he registered to vote 73 times over a five-month period has set of alarm bells among election officials in Ohio's most populous county.

The bipartisan Cuyahoga County Board of Elections in Cleveland voted unanimously Monday to ask Prosecutor Bill Mason to investigate multiple registrations by four people, including 19-year-old Freddie Johnson.

All four said they signed forms at the behest of a community organizing group, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform, known as ACORN.

Johnson said he was trying to help paid ACORN solicitors collect signed registrations. He said he has not voted, and said he filled out the cards because he was given cigarettes and about $20.

ACORN's Ohio state director, Katy Gall, said ACORN is cooperating with the investigation and would fire anyone soliciting duplicate registrations. He also pointed out that no fraud was committed because the teen had not cast a vote.

The fracas is the latest round in a battle over ACORN's impact on voter registration this year. The group says it has signed up 1.3 million poor and working-class voters in a mass registration drive in 18 states this year.

In Pennsylavania, the district attorney for the Pittsburgh area is investigating possible forgery and other irregularities on voter registration forms turned in by ACORN.

Obama stands a chance of “winning” this election by means of massive vote fraud.

An Obama presidency will never be considered legitimate.

Hey sub, is WNBC your local affiliate of NBC.

Sounds like a can of worms have just been opened.

Any word on those 4K same day registration/voting ballots? I think it was Brit Hume who said last week that there were 6 days before the ballots would be opened. Once opened they can not link the registration with the vote.

That was at least 4 days ago.

Saw an interview with a Clevelander and she said for every one “regular” person on the street in Cleveland, there were 15 ACORN people.

Perhaps no fraud was committed, maybe.

However, multiple crimes certainly were. False registration. Perjury, in some states (don't know about Ohio). Multiple counts of conspiracy.

In a reasonable legal system, and especially given the willful disdain for the law that ACORN has repeatedly shown, the sentences ought to add up to about 15 years apiece for participants in 'Project Vote'.

The act of registration was fraudulent. My God do they expect people to believe this crap??

I’m not a lawyer, but it would seem to be fraud whether a vote was cast or not. Let’s say a person files a false insurance claim, is it only fraud if they collect on it? Isn’t the fraud in the false statement itself rather than getting the intended benefit or rsult?

He himself may not cast a vote,

but someone will get out of a bus at every voting location where “he” is registered and vote for him.

I’m not a lawyer either, but it would seem to me that it all depends on how the law is written. Your logic is on track, but, legally speaking, it may be comparing apples and oranges. Why is hacking into and stealing email not weighed the same as stealing mail from someone’s mailbox? Because that’s just how the law is written.

Exactly, the idea that if they did not vote, there was no crime committed is nonsensical, there are Conspiracy charges and uttering and perjury and false statements.

That meme is a lie.

Are these duplicate registrations with the same information, or are they all different, so multiple votes could occur if they aren’t challenged? If the former, the scam is on ACORN by the organizers. If the latter (as I suspect is often the case), its ballot stuffing and a really serious crime.

Then why do this?:

I like that! This is great! Those people really are as dumb as a sack full of rocks.

Submitting false information to a government agent? Na that's OK. Eeveryone else is doing it so why not me. How about if I just get me a little ole printing press and start making facsimiles of $20 Treasury notes. After all, the wouldn't be real money would they?
