LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Former Beatles drummer Ringo Starr has told fans to stop sending letters and requests for autographs, saying mail will be thrown away after October 20 because he has too much to do.

Wasn't this a Simpsons' episode? /s
You would think he could afford a secretary/assistant.
But Pete Best has all the time in the world.
Is Ringo still alive?
Marge even painted his picture! She will be disappointed.
Who is Ringo Starr?
Seriesly. He still gets fan mail?
“Please please me.. with no more mail, Ringo says.”
Geez...just when I was considering requesting an autograph after thinking, since the 60’s, he was “cutest” Beatle!
Where are his political comments? Recently those with inflated ego issues that size seem to have a lot to say about the election. How sad to have to resort to that kind of comment to get any press. It reminds me of Tina Feye threatening to leave earth. Sad, sad, emotional black holes of need seeking some significance in their otherwise barren lives.
He's the luckiest guy since, well, Ringo.
“Who is Ringo Starr?”
Let’s see, he’s the...cute, smart, talented are all taken. Ringo is the Beatle with the groovy name!
Rock and Roll ping.
This sounds like a cry for “HELP”???
ping
So everyone, GET YOUR REQUESTS IN THIS WEEK!
I like Ringo, but one would think a person with his kind of money could arrange to have someone take care of his fan-mail.
On the other hand maybe he is the kind of person who — if he can’t answer his mail personally (or semi-personally)— would rather not have to answer his mail at all.
If the above true his request seems reasonable.

No, seroiusly, both of you. Stop sending me letters.
Postal Employee: “May I help you?”
Kramer: “Yeah, I’d like to cancel my mail.”
Postal Employee: “Certainly. How long would you like us to hold it?”
Kramer: “Oh, no, no. I don’t think you get me. I want out, permanently.”
Supervisor: “Is everything all right here, Postal Employee Newman?”
Newman: “Yes, sir, I believe everything is all squared away. Isn’t it, Mr.Kramer?”
Kramer: “Oh, yeah. As long as I stop getting mail!”
If he doesn’t want any “attention” from his fans...doesn’t want to be bothered, etc. why keep a web site up and running?
All fan mail for the last ten years had to be sent in braille.
I remember that one!!!
ROTFLMAO!!!
It's worth reading Beatles producer Geoff Emerick's book about what it was like with the Beatles. He provides a real insider's view of their personalities. He didn't care much for Ringo, saying he was friendly and likable when he knew the cameras were on him, but was otherwise basically a jerk.
What did he say about Geroge? He always appear to be a great and quiet guy who was not treated to well by John and Paul.
Does he have to get my request by Oct. 20th, or does it have to be postmarked by the 20th? :o)
Ringo is a talented drummer...and like it or not, the Beatles would NOT be the Beatles without him.
Yes, seriously.
At 68 I’d imagine just about anyone would find time short enough that they wouldn’t want to spend it signing autographs. Good for him.
I like Ringo. As far as I know, he isn’t out there making an ass out of himself like so many other celebs are. He has been married to Barbara Bach for many years. He must be doing something right.
Somehow, I think Gene Simmons could turn this into a money-making enterprise.
Postmaster General: “Kramer, I’ve been, uh, reading some of your material here. I gotta be honest with you: you make a pretty strong case. I mean, just imagine. An army of men in wool pants running through the neighborhood handing out pottery catalogs, door to door.”
Kramer: “Yeah! Ha ha.”
Postmaster General: “Well, it’s my job. And I’m pretty damn serious about it.”
So I say, no no no no ...
I won’t sign ‘em no more.
I’m tired of picking sacks off the floor.
No thank you please
my mailbox is in a squeeze
No autographs go out the door!
(To the tune of his novelty #1 hit “The No-No Song”, which was actually a B side to the forgotten “Snookeroo”)
You spent your whole life trying to get people to buy your records and make you famous and now that you are rich and famous, screw the fans.
That's basically what he said. He also said, though, that he was often frustrated by how long it took George to work out his guitar solos. I got the impression he didn't really respect George's musicianship. Emerick was a huge Paul fan, however.
Reminds me of the time Arthur McGowan said he didn't want any more pings.
Mr. McGowan - I'm sure you will appreciate the ping to this important story. :)
Now, all I’ve got is a photograph.
“If he doesn’tt want any ‘attention’ from his fans...doesnt want to be bothered, etc. why keep a web site up and running?”
I don’t think he ‘doesn’t want any attention from his fans’... It may be that it is HE that feels he can no longer dedicate the requisite ‘attention’ for them.
Thus, he is asking that they don’t send him anything to sign.
Of course, this puts a damper on ANY fan-mail as he would be afraid that ANYTHING he opens would be a request for HIM to do something for THEM (THE FANS) — rather than simply fans who wish him well.
I’m sure — as you indicate — he still wants attention... as all humans do to some extant.
I’m sure Ringo is wise enough (he should be)to understand that fame and fortune are transient.
Ah, the burden of fame and fortune!
A burden most of us have not had to shoulder.
He knows — as we all do — that he can’t take these things with him.
Perhaps his wealth and fame make the above realization all the more poignant, at this time in his life.

Ringo is a moron who actually believes the hype about himself.
Want proof?
Watch the Regis episode where Ringo throws a hissy fit when someone dare cuts his long boring song.

I guarantee you that Pete Best will be happy to sign anything you put in front of him and will throw down a few drinks with you too, if you go see one of his great concerts. He’s in the US right now.

yup —as a kid Ringo was my favorite. Was cute at one time but now looks like Yassar Arafat —yuck!
I hadn't thought of Ringo in about 10 years. That was when I made the mistake of buying his Christmas album. Let's just say that he actually made that Paul McCartney Christmas song listenable ("Wonderful Christmastime").
As for Ringo's post-Beatles work, I'm not much of a fan. About the only decent song he ever put out was "Photograph" and even that one was kind of mediocre.
So anyway, I'm kind of surprised he'd still be getting fan mail. But I do want to thank him for letting me know that I shouldn't bother just in case I ever get the inclination to ask him who he was thinking about when he wrote "You're Sixteen."
If his phone doesn't ring, he'll know it's me.
Wait . . . “lucky to be here” is coping an attitude? This barely able to keep time jackhole can SMB.
“It’s worth reading Beatles producer Geoff Emerick’s book about what it was like with the Beatles.”
To be frank, I was never much of a fan of the Beatles.
I prefer the rolling stones.
To be fair, the Beatles seem to have escaped much of the serious trouble that such a popular rock group COULD have so easily gotten into.
In veuw of the above it would seem that — ‘jerk’ or not — Ringo has done pretty well for himself.

TYPO: veuw = view
“Fame” ain’t all it’s cracked up to be. Especially without the “fortune”.
He didn’t write “you’re sixteen.” It was written by Richard Sherman and popularized by Johnny Burnette in like 1960.
3/4 true, and true.
Ringo is a mediocre drummer. However, since he emphasized beats 1 and 3 in European music fashion, instead of the standard R&B 2 and 4, the Beatles' rock music projected a sense of urgency, which was their unique rock style.
Whether Ringo was instructed to to that by John and Paul, or it's just his style, I don't know.
