Palin sees similarities between NH and Alaska
The North County Times/The Associated Press ^ | October 15, 2008 | Holly Ramer

DOVER, N.H. - Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin said Wednesday she feels a kinship with the moose-hunting, tax-hating voters of New Hampshire who gave John McCain his first primary victory.

At the first of three rallies, the Alaska governor said New Hampshire's state motto, "Live Free or Die," would be a good motto for her state.

"You're a lot like the people of Alaska. We all love good moose hunting, I know that. We both so enjoy our great lands, with clean water, fresh air and abundant wildlife and good fishing. We love being outdoors, and I know that is New Hampshire also," she said. "And we both take seriously your state's motto _ I think it should be ours also _ "Live Free or Die."

Alaska's state motto is "North to the Future."

The two states are the only two with neither a general income nor a general sales tax, and Palin played up that history in repeating her argument that Democratic nominee Barack Obama would raise taxes.

McCain proposes extending all of President Bush's tax cuts; Obama would raise income taxes on families making more than $250,000 and individuals making more than $200,000 and has proposed $80 billion in tax breaks mainly for poor workers and the elderly.

"Here in Dover, there's home to two kinds of people: the fine people of New Hampshire, and the fine people of Massachusetts who got sick of paying all those taxes," Palin said. "That should tell you something. The rest of the country is looking at this area and saying what is it that New Hampshire wants?"

Somebody said she need to be positive but also go back on the attack.

Here is an ad that McCain can win with. Frank Luntz tested it and said it was the best.

I'm very happy that Sarah Palin was sent here to New Hampshire, because in many ways she does reflect the values of this state. At least, that is, before it was invaded and largely appropriated by the liberal locusts from Vermont, Maine and Massachusetts. Ms. Palin has become a convenient gauge of current political attitudes: those who like her are conservative, religious, traditional and patriotic; her detractors are liberal, secular, socially "progressive" and internationalist.

Many New Hampshire residents still take pride in being a small island of Red State America in a sea of Blue. I have not yet given up on the idea that we may one day reclaim our state and our country from the clutches of those who would convert its purpose to the service of a truly foreign ideology. I realize that we may need to endure a period of Hell before we return, not to Heaven, as such is unachievable on Earth, but to liberty and the rule of law, as is becoming increasingly rare in this part of the country.

NH is a great state.

Palin was great and NH could go our way

For anyone fed up of New England mainly VT and MA then a move to NH would be good for you

We got out of MA , as well I should say I got my wife out of there who was born and bred as the politics were horrible plus our vote was worthless

Plenty of moose in NH, too!!

[unfortunately, too many of them find their way onto roads so that there are around 200 moose deaths per year from vehicles hitting them, IIRC — need more moose hunting in NH — maybe Sarah will help with that!!]

Thanks - I would love to see many more conservatives move here to counter the influx of Moonbat Nation. New Hampshire is still a beautiful state and a great place to live. They may yet drive us out but it will not be without a fight.

What the hell am I, chopped liver?

BTW--BigHeads is now reincarnated as an Irish bar/restaurant. Still think I'd rather do the pre- post-Freep libations at Draught Pick Pub, though--cuter bartenders.

I hear you

I loved what Palin said about moving from MA because of the politics in NH, ie.e tax
Never understood why people move to a new place and then want to change it like their old state they ruined.
They move then moan about having to drive far, or no outlet designer strip malls, or their Saks 5th avenue

We’re already looking to get a house there and I’m looking to become a cop in the great state of NH
so if you have any info it would be appreciated
Lets just hope it isn’t too much changed within 3 months

I would like to tell you that you have a beautiful state and your border to the west and south should have a sign saying
if you wish to live here remember why you are leaving your old state, we ask you not to keep voting like you did in your old state and ruined it

We;ll be bringing another two red votes to you and plan to move probably to Belknap county but the wife wants Londonderry

I didn't mean to leave you out of the picture, chief... you're one of the Good Guys...

I know that our mutual FRiend Little Bill is laid up for a spell, but if you and Past Your Eyes are up for a FReep of the Peace Action moonbats in Rochester one of these Fridays, I'll be happy to join you.

P.S. - Hope you're feeling more sprightly these days, Bill: get well soon!

That's why I refer to them as "locusts" - they destroy the seed corn of the land where they live and then move on to do the same damage to someone else's homestead.

If you really want to move here, the southern tier has much better salaries than up north, even though I love the Lakes Region. My plan was to retire in Maine, which I still may do, but given how the left-wing crazies have totally screwed up that fair state, I may settle for a home in or around Wolfeboro near Lake Winnepesaukee. Or, I may end up in Alaska...

I’ve spoken to many here in north Florida and they hate the liberals who come down here and want to try and change it. They want to moan all the time that this area doesn’t have what they had back in MA

The answer is don’t move

there’s a bumper sticker we see all the time and it says if it was so good where you come from then take I-95 north

hang in there Andy I believe the people of NH doesn’t fall for bumper stickers cheap slogans

As for AK
I’d love to go there but no way would my wife move out there, if I was single Id be gone with a nice log cabin as my home

I wish I could remember which FReeper had this in a post, but I used it as a sig for a while...

FOUND IT!!!

Credit to FReeper Salem:

I'd like to share a revelation that I've had during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify liberals, commies, and free market haters and I realized that they're not actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment but liberals do not. You move to an area and you multiply and multiply until every resource produced by the bright and productive is consumed and the only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Liberals, commies, and free markets haters are a disease, a cancer of this planet. You're a plague and we are the cure.

You just described half my neighbors. The other half wish they'd go back to Mass, NY, or CT.

I attended Sarah’s third rally of the day, in Salem, NH.

HUGE crowd! Started lining up well before 4 PM, and the line was still way back to the parking lot at 7 PM. Luckily, it was held at a high school football field, so there was lots of space.

Her speech was the same as reported in this thread.

The lovely Todd was there also! Almost got to shake hands, but the Secret Service whisked them away.

More on her visit to NH, and an interview by a local TV channel:

...around 200 moose deaths per year from vehicles hitting them...

You mean vehicles aren't the legal method of hunting moose in NH? I would have thought that any king of moose gun/round would be outlawed cause you might hit someone in a neighboring state? ;-))

All kidding aside: I love your state motto.

Thanks, but it’s not my state motto — I live in Utah!

However, I did once live a few months in NH during a personal “transition” many years ago, so I suppose I can adopt “Live Free or Die” as my personal state motto wherever I may live.

Sorry, you were sounding like a native there. Though I think all Americans should adopt the "Live Free or Die" motto. Alas, the meaning would be lost on far too many these days.

Living in Utah, I guess you don't have to worry about hitting people in a neighboring state when you're out hunting though. That's a plus.

Beautiful state. Been there a few times. Wish you had some decent bars though.
