A Christian Song to uplift you in the next 20 days

Posted on 10/15/2008 7:33:44 PM PDT by DocT111

After watching the debate, I have a new song that I'm singing at the top of my lungs. It's called the Canticle of the Turning. I emailed our choir director at church to sing this hymn the next 3 Sundays at mass.

Here are the lyrics

My soul cries out with a joyful shout that the God of my heart is great, And my spirit sings of the wondrous things that you bring to the ones who wait. You fixed your sight on the servant's plight, and my weakness you did not spurn, So from east to west shall my name be blest. Could the world be about to turn?

Refrain: My heart shall sing of the day you bring. Let the fires of your justice burn. Wipe away all tears, for the dawn draws near, And the world is about to turn.

Though I am small, my God, my all, you work great things in me. And your mercy will last from the depths of the past to the end of the age to be. Your very name puts the proud to shame, and to those who would for you yearn. You will show your might, put the strong to flight, for the world is about to turn.

Refrain

From the halls of power to the fortress tower, not a stone will be left on stone. Let the king beware for your justice tears ev'ry tyrant from his throne. The hungry poor shall weep no more, for the food they can never earn; There are tables spread, ev'ry mouth be fed, for the world is about to turn.

Refrain

Though the nations rage from age to age, we remember who holds us fast: God's mercy must deliver us from the conqueror's crushing grasp. This saving word that our forebears heard is the promise which holds us bound, 'Til the spear and rod can be crushed by God, who is turning the world around.

My heart shall sing of the day you bring. Let the fires of your justice burn. Wipe away all tears, for the dawn draws near, And the world is about to turn.

That’s a great song. Thank you.
It will not only help during this election time but also with the hard time our family is going through with our grandson who went in last nov for an allergy shot and had a severe anaphylactic shock.

He’s now in a wheelchair and can’t move or speak...yet

I’m going to pray your song every day.

Great lyrics. Can’t wait to get upstairs and get a hymnal and find a tune in the index that matches the meter of your lyrics. Put the two together and you have a very reverent, very rousing, very hopeful piece of work.

Sorry, Partner.
When I made my previous reply I had missed the fact that the canticle is a finished product. Never heard it before, but I like it. Thanks again.

Thanks for sharing this song.

Leila Morris, a Methodist from McConnelsville, Ohio is one of my favorite hymn writers. This tune, which she composed in 1905, also seems appropriate to our time:

THE FIGHT IS ON

The fight is on, the trumpet sound is ringing out,
The cry “To arms!” is heard afar and near;
The Lord of hosts is marching on to victory,
The triumph of the Christ will soon appear.

Refrain:
The fight is on, O Christian soldier,
And face to face in stern array,
With armor gleaming, and colors streaming,
The right and wrong engage today!
The fight is on, but be not weary;
Be strong, and in His might hold fast;
If God be for us, His banner o’er us,
We’ll sing the victor’s song at last!

The fight is on, arouse, ye soldiers brave and true!
Jehovah leads, and victory will assure;
Go buckle on the armor God has given you,
And in His strength unto the end endure.

Refrain

The Lord is leading on to certain victory;
The bow of promise spans the eastern sky;
His glorious Name in every land shall honored be;
The morn will break, the dawn of peace is nigh.

Refrain
