Current and former aides for Congressman Tim Mahoney (D-FL) say he was carrying on an affair with a county official from Florida at the same time he lobbied to help her county receive a $3.4 million federal grant.
One former top campaign aide says Mahoney acknowledged the woman had spent the week at his Washington apartment but shrugged off warnings such behavior could cause him political trouble. The aides said the woman was also seen with Mahoney at restaurants and at his Washington DC apartment late at night.

Earmarks are so useful to Democrats to pay off, well you know ...
Mahoney pork-ing His-honey?..........
Just as long as he didn’t send any text messages - he is good to go...
brazen......but nothing will come of it....IIRC , Mark Foley, who was NEVER charged with anything, was the national scorn for weeks in the drivebys....
Both of 'em.
Mahoney has too much time and not enough smarts. A Bill Clinton & John Edwards wannabee.
Hey, South FL Freepers, is this guy toast yet?
a county official, hmm you sure ther’s not an extra vowel in there somewhere?
When Foley was accused, it was a national story and the Republicans got tarred and feathered by the media. And, yet, this story is only on the fringes. I’m shocked. </sarc>
State GOP chair calls for Mahoney’s resignation

STUART Jim Greer, chairman of the Republican Party of Florida, accused U.S. Rep. Tim Mahoney today of abusing the public trust and called for his resignation.
“The last chapter of Tim Mahoney’s political career has been written,” he said, at a morning press conference held across the street from Mahoney’s congressional office on Osceola Street.
Greer said some extramarital affairs were a private matter, but said Mahoney’s affairs were believed to be with a campaign staff member and a high-ranking Martin County official. He would not name either woman.
“This is not about an affair, it’s about corruption,” he said.
Greer said he did not believe the matter warranted a criminal investigation, but said constituents of Congressional District 16 deserved answers before the Nov. 4 election. Mahoney is in a tight race with Republican Tom Rooney.
ABC News broke the story Monday saying that Mahoney had been involved in an affair with Patricia Allen, of Hobe Sound, whom he later hired as a congressional staffer, and that he had paid her off after she threatened to sue him. Sources now have said he may also have had an affair with a Martin County official involved in securing FEMA money.
Like bubba, this guy didn’t care who he poked.
Heard he has announced he may NOT run. The FBI is investigating his use of campaign funds for bribes to the mistress.
His repub opponent, Rooney is a good guy, already running strong.
Local news media is much more likely to carry this than national. Most pollsters and pundits give Mahoney little chance of winning.
Okay, Democrat News Media, you know what you have to do: DESTROY THESE WOMEN!!!!!
I wonder if the “at least he didn’t . . .” posters will show up and declare “at least he didn’t chase after children,” “at least he didn’t murder the mistress,” “at least he didn’t dump his wife for the mistress.”
Rooney...I Understand that is in Steeler Rooney and he’s an ex Army guy. How’s LTC West doing?
Good idea to support Tom Rooney.
