Obama should bone up by watching “Looking for Comedy in the Muslim World”.

This was great. I’m not sure which line I liked best.

McCain was very funny — he has always had this side to him, he si wll known in Washington for having a quick and cutting wit.

Conventions wisdom in the McCain-camp appears to be that this side of him can easily go from funny to mean-spirited... his handlers apparently really wanted him to NOT show this side of himself especially in the debates and other extemporaneous situations.

“Al Smith” was deemed a safe place to unleash “this” McCain because:

A. the event is famously as close as politics gets to a no-holds-barred kind of roast
b. the speech was pre-written and screened by campaign folks
c. the Al Smith Dinner has a fairly limited, “wonky” audience

I (for one) wish we had seen much more of this McCain over the last 3 months or so — if only for the entertainment value — but the fear that McCain could “go to far” was probably a reasonable one — apparently, he can be a crusty old so-and-so

McCain was on fire! The material was excellent and delivered it great. All of it were digs at Obama but he did it with humor.

Thank you for posting the link! I was reading a thread earlier about something hilarious going on, but we don’t have access to satellite t.v....yet...and I was so hoping I’d be able to watch it online.

Kind of reminded me of a Bob Newhart stand up routine. It was very funny. Obama had me laughing too. Good fun!

I have mixed feelings on allowing a slimey babykiller access to this pulpit. That said, McCain did a GREAT job from start to finish. Way better than his debates.
