Palin's Failin' (Noonan Barf Alert)
Wall Street Journal ^ | 10/17/08 | Peggy Noonan

Posted on 10/16/2008 10:11:33 PM PDT by acsuc99

But we have seen Mrs. Palin on the national stage for seven weeks now, and there is little sign that she has the tools, the equipment, the knowledge or the philosophical grounding one hopes for, and expects, in a holder of high office. She is a person of great ambition, but the question remains: What is the purpose of the ambition? She wants to rise, but what for? For seven weeks I've listened to her, trying to understand if she is Bushian or Reaganite—a spender, to speak briefly, whose political decisions seem untethered to a political philosophy, and whose foreign policy is shaped by a certain emotionalism, or a conservative whose principles are rooted in philosophy, and whose foreign policy leans more toward what might be called romantic realism, and that is speak truth, know America, be America, move diplomatically, respect public opinion, and move within an awareness and appreciation of reality. But it's unclear whether she is Bushian or Reaganite. She doesn't think aloud. She just . . . says things. Her supporters accuse her critics of snobbery: Maybe she's not a big "egghead" but she has brilliant instincts and inner toughness. But what instincts? "I'm Joe Six-Pack"? She does not speak seriously but attempts to excite sensation—"palling around with terrorists." If the Ayers case is a serious issue, treat it seriously. She is not as thoughtful or persuasive as Joe the Plumber, who in an extended cable interview Thursday made a better case for the Republican ticket than the Republican ticket has made. In the past two weeks she has spent her time throwing out tinny lines to crowds she doesn't, really, understand.

Peggy, could you be more irrelevant?

Your snooty, snobbishness might play well on 5th avenue, but main-street has had quite enough of you. Go away.

She was the female darling of the elite and some on the right. She has been rendered ridiculous by Palin. At least Bill Buckley had the class to give it up for Reagan. What makes matters worse is the fact that an older icon chose the attractive younger woman to take the ride of her life. It's not policy or the other head fakes the old gal is spewing. It's biology , nothing more nothing less.

Ummm, Peg sounds worried about her cool exotic black dude's chances.

She sounds just plain silly now.

Just a few weeks ago Noonan was praising Palin after she got caught in her on mic crap throwing. Now that Noonan sees Americans on the right and the center love Palin, her jealousy raises its stinkin head.

Noonan, just walk off into the desert without any water please. Save us from hearing your pathetic dribble.

well, I’m shocked she would show some respect for one of the ‘other’ people.

Peggy used to write stuff worth reading. She’s gone off the deep end like Bob Barr and a few others.

I've listened to her, trying to understand if she is Bushian or Reaganite

Thank goodness Palin is neither. She's her own woman with her own mind - and it's conservative. Noonan's been sucking the elite republican tit for so long, she no longer recognizes conservatism.

What is the purpose of the ambition?

Hey dipstick, there's an elephant in the room. The question you should be raising is What is the purpose of obama's ambition?

It seems obvious now, having watched the charismatic Palin in action, that the females on the sidelines would extend their claws. I would have expected better from republican women-- but I guess that's just me.

Such cattiness from two women--Noonan and Parker-- neither one of whom has ever even tried to get elected to anything.

Noonan isn’t just a snob she is an obvious revolting snob I am proud to have disliked her from long ago.

Why would any alleged conservative disfavor this conservative governor as opposed to, say, the third most liberal nincompoop senator Joe Biden?

These people like Noonan were always crap and now they are showing their true colors. I would kick Noonan out of the way to have a conversation with Palin.

Peggy has been bitten by the green eyed monster. Peggy thought she was the folksky woman conservative while attending the Georgetown parties.

But a real folksky conservative woman has appeared on the scene and her name is Gov. Sarah Palin and she won't be attending Georgetown parties.

You have to give people time to show what they have. Because maybe they have magic too.

But we have seen Mrs. Palin on the national stage for seven weeks now, and there is little sign that she has the tools, the equipment, the knowledge or the philosophical grounding one hopes for, and expects, in a holder of high office.

Seven whole weeks? Peggy, just sit down and be quiet. Your columns are becoming embarrassingly nonsensical.

Dr. TwithanH has diagnosed Ms. Noonan’s problem! She’s listening to Gov. Palin with her “entrenched in the beltway” ears. She needs an ear lavage.
