Pit bull apologists always sing the same tune

I'm deeply saddened by the tragic death of yet another innocent child, Katya Todesco, due to what should be defined as an act of domestic terrorism, perpetrated by the dog's owner.

As a father of two children, and a responsible owner of two dogs, I know both sides of this sad story. Yet the story is nearly always the same with a pit bull attack: a child attacked, sometimes killed; a funeral with a small casket is held, and the owners walk free, perplexed at how their "good dog" could have done such a thing.

Then it's the usual defenders like Kathy Jenks employing distorted logic to claim that pit bulls are no more dangerous than any other dog, which anyone with two eyes and one ounce of common sense knows is absurd.

She cites Labrador retrievers as one of the "biters" in a dog bite study, which is false logic, since Labs are America's most popular dog.

But Labs aren't known for killing people; pit bulls are, and the facts support this. In fact, a University of Minnesota study of 19 years listed human deaths from pit bulls at 66, Rottweilers at 39. Labradors and Chihuahuas somehow escaped the study as killers.

The Clifton study, performed over 24 years, lists pit bulls 5,500 percent more likely to kill a human than a Labrador. Coincidentally, no insurance company will insure a homeowner with either a pit bull or a Rottweiler.

Also, the pit bull breed has been banned outright in 25 U.S. cities so far, and six countries and many other major foreign cities, for good reason: The breed is a menace that has no place in our communities and should be banned nationally.

But if we refuse to protect our kids from these dangerous animals, at the very least manslaughter charges should be brought against pit bull owners whose dogs kill.

With all these alleged conservatives screaming for more big government, it’s no wonder this country is in the mess it’s in.

It IS always the same story...thugs buy a dog, chain it up outside and neglect the crap out of it.

But don’t hold the thugs responsible for the monster they create; don’t hold them responsible when they shoot people either.

Ban the guns.
Ban the dogs.
Ban the little plastic baggies (Chicago’s newest front in the ban-frenzy).

Those are legal as well, as long as you have a license. I like it the way it is, up to the state government and not the federal government.

Some trashy people and corrupt public officials complain about people carrying these by the homes of pit bull owners--just in case.



But fickle, untrustworthy pit bulls in public cause far more unhealthy avoidance and stress than human beings carrying shotguns. And pit bull owners typically get their beasts for the purpose of making their neighbors fear for their families' lives.

In many areas, it is perfectly legal to openly carry weapons by a residence where dangerous animals are harbored. Be safe. Don't point at anything that you're not about to kill. And ignore the whinings of criminals.

We're conservatives--not pimps, pushers or calculating breeders of monsters. Liberaltarian lawyers (indeed, whole state Bar associations) have lobbied hard for most of the worst social programs that we have now for the purpose of strengthening the divorce industry and enlarging the labor pool. They are no better than the anarchists of decades ago in Europe--insidious provocateurs for communists.

...same here regarding my niece. And in a former neighborhood of mine, a two-year-old was killed by two pit bulls that had a twelve-foot chain link fence around them. The owner went away for second degree murder.

But after that, the abominations became even more popular in the area. Criminals, being full of vanity and intentional ignorance of consequences, love to practice neglect and tempt consequences.

More maulings and deaths followed. Some public officials went to prison for crimes related to the mentality. Others were discharged. Others lost professional licenses.

If there are many pit bulls in an area, it’s a trashy community and likely mobbed-up.

You are clamoring for more big government intrusion when you advocate for the banning of a certain breed of dog. You think you have good intentions. Need I remind you what the road to hell is paved with? Take a look at the CRA. Passed with good intentions, it is now the root of America's economic problems.

When you ban a dog because you thinks it's icky, that opens the door for government intrusion. As we have seen with the tobacco industry, the intrusion will not be limited to dogs.

Why a pit bull? Because it is canine? I can’t have a full-bred grey wolf as a pet. I want one.

On the contrary, killing pit bulls is cheap and therapeutic, and we have a constitutional right to outlaw and dispose of public menaces produced by criminals. Our Nation's founding fathers hung sodomites.

That's a great argument. Exotic dangerous animals are expensive to contain. So should common dangerous animals require such containments.

Pit bull zombies also often use analogies between pit bulls and things that require human assistance in order to be dangerous (e.g. firearms). Pit bulls have minds of their own--minds corrupt by way of intentional and wrongful misbreeding.

That should be true of any breed of dog, provided that your kid wasn't doing something illegal like trespassing in a fenced and marked enclosure or a residence. Dog owners need to take responsibility for their dogs regardless of the breed. The real problem are the idiots that keep aggressive dogs as a way to demonstrate their machismo. It doesn't matter whether it's a pit, a tosaken or a rottweiler. If you get an aggressive dog, neglect it, don't train it and don't properly contain it, you've got a time bomb on your hands. Unfortunately, this is common among some groups of people.

There are more pit bulls over there? I reckon those folks will have more negative meetings with the law in the near future. It's too bad that so many other neighbors (not you or me) are too afraid to speak up and do something.

Maybe we need to reach out a little more and advertise and organize when possible.

According to the court record, the 2-year-old in my former neighborhood climbed a 12-foot fence. The two pit bulls behind the fence then killed the child. The owner went down for second degree murder. It's not legal in that State to kill anyone only for trespassing. ...same in most states.

Being put in prison for good probably kept the pit bull owner from being killed.
