Man with gun prompts scare in Nixa (Mo.) (riding a bike)
KTTS ^

Posted on 10/17/2008 12:09:48 PM PDT by rightinthemiddle

Bad timing, and perhaps some bad judgement as a man from Nixa who had just bought an old gun at a local garage sale rode home on his bicycle with his new purchase shortly after 8am. But someone saw him riding in front of the junior high school and became concerned.

As a precaution, the district put the Junior High, Century Elementary, and Thomas Elementary on lockdown. But when the man's son in law called the KTTS Studios to tell us what was going on, we asked him to call police, and he did. The schools resumed normal operations a short time later.

Anywhere else, he would have been arrested.

Anywhere else, he would have been arrested.

Maybe (probably?) NOT in South Central Los Angeles.
The LAPD patrols would (REASONABLY) think "I'm NOT going to be
involved in the next 'Rodney King' incident. No sir, I don't need
a r-ctal exam by the Los Angeles District Attorney and the
local US Attorney!!!"

Given the inmates/ACLU often run the cities these days, cops probably
wouldn't get involved until someone called in "shots fired" or
"civilian shot".

This is Nixa we’re talking about here. My old roommate from Bible College was an assistant Principal at that school. Nixa is located between Springfield ans Branson.

I used to take my .22 into school so I could go shooting after.

I was being a bit facetious...
as I'm an Okie that lived in West Los Angeles (1995-2005) and
have lived in Columbia, MO 2005-current.

I remember showing my school principal my .30-30 during deer season. It was in my truck’s gun racks.

Time did a story about Obama opening an office in Nixa (about five miles from me).

Didn’t go over too well.

Lousy reporting. What type of rifle was it? What caliber? How much did he pay?
Guess somebody needs to tell him about gun free zones.

For Nixa, I’m surprised even that much happened. Go a half mile down the highway and it wouldn’t be out of place for a couple guys in a pickup to pull off the highway, grab their rifles and go running off into a field because they thought they saw a turkey.

I heard it was an old shotgun, only good for parts.

When I was a kid I would tie my .22 single shot to my bike and ride over behind our “downtown” airport for an afternoon of plinking. I bought my first .22 revolver (9 shot) at a high school football game - from a guy who told me he was selling it during trig class.

Maybe somebody remembered to tell him about the Second Amendment.
