ABC News: Obama Holds 'A Double-Digit Lead in Most National Polls'
NewsBusters ^ | October 17, 2008 | Michael M. Bates

Posted on 10/17/2008 12:29:27 PM PDT by Zakeet

On Thursday's ABC World News, anchor Charles Gibson's lead-off story was on the presidential campaign:

"Two weeks, five days to go, home stretch. Barack Obama and John McCain began today laying out their closing strategies. And while Obama continues to hold a double-digit lead in most national polls, it is the results in individual states that are all important."

The emphasis on Obama's supposedly huge, possibly insurmountable lead is used by some in the mainstream media to suggest the inevitability of a Democratic win. But you have to wonder, at least in this instance, what polls ABC News is examining. Obama enjoys a lead in most opinion surveys, but it's not as large as Gibson claimed.

Thursday's Gallup Daily poll showed a 49% to 43% Obama lead over McCain.
Rasmussen had it at 50% to 46%.
At Zogby, it was 49% to 43%.
The IBD /TIPP tracking poll showed the race at 45% to 42%
The RealClearPolitics poll average, which incorporates findings of 13 national polls, showed a 49.5 to 42.7 Obama lead.

Prospects for the McCain-Palin are not quite as bleak as some in the mainstream media would like. But that doesn't mean they'll stop trying.

This is great!
Let them think that.
Then none of 0bama’s supporters will bother showing up to vote.

I agree.. His audience is filled with Obama-drones.

Old people are going to vote no matter what, and polling shows them leaning McCain overwhelming.

The MSM, trying to push the fake news is unwittingly keeping the flake voters away from the polls with this news.

Wonder what will happen when McCain wins? I keep hearing about these HUGE poll numbers and to me it just sounds bogus. Are they (whoever they are) trying to get people to believe that Obama is winning, just to get chaos stirred up on Nov. 5th ?

as long as McCain supporters don't get discouraged enough to stay home... this is my fear... i know FReepers won't... but those who listen to and believe the MSM just might do that... that's what the MSM is aiming for...

Thursday’s
Gallup Daily poll showed a 49% to 43% Obama lead over McCain. +6
Rasmussen had it at 50% to 46%. +4
At Zogby, it was 49% to 43%. +6
The IBD /TIPP tracking poll showed the race at 45% to 42% +3

you just have to think like a liberal see:

6 + 4 + 6 + 3 = 19 = double digit lead for Obama

Are they counting ones and tenths as double digits? Will it still be double digits if they were tenths and hundredths? 49.56%-49.43%, see .13%. That's two digits.

You all obviously don’t understand. If you add up all the differences in the polls between O and McCain, you get about 26 points. Hence, a double digit lead in the polls. You guys really should learn liberal math.

Oh come now. Maybe ABC just wanted to express the 'lead' in something other than base-10 notation. Like Binary.

6 (base10) point lead = 110 (base2) point lead

3 (base10) point lead = 11 (base2) point lead

Hey, I can be a democrat strategist now. :)

“Wonder what will happen when McCain wins? I keep hearing about these HUGE poll numbers and to me it just sounds bogus.”

We saw the same thing last presidential election. The Charlie Gibson types will declare a democrat win early - too early - and then have to eat crow as the results come in.

Don’t take anything for granted.

McCain’s core supporters are more likely to show up to vote than 0bama’s.
The closer to a traditional turnout model we have on election day, the better McCain does.

This is malarkey. The MSM is in the tank for Obama and spins all of its “reporting” in his favor. Why would polls be any different. McCain might be behind but the race is much closer than they would have people believe.

Hey, I hope they keep saying this...those in the know and those who are pissed are going to make sure they vote. And those who want to bask in Obama’s glory will Laz-out, stay home and say they voted for the O man...only to find out on the morning of November 5th that they should have really voted.

Really?

From Drudge today:

GALLUP POLL LIKELY VOTERS STAY 49 OBAMA, 47 MCCAIN FOR SECOND DAY...

AP/YAHOO Poll of 873 Democrats; 650 Republicans shows OBAMA 44%, MCCAIN 42%...

http://l.yimg.com/a/i/us/nws/elections/ap_election_wave8_topline_101308.pdf

And you have to like a poll that interviews 1/3rd more Democrats than Republicans and still only gets a 2% bump.

If it’s too big a hassle, don’t worry, plenty of others will cast their ballots for Obama.
