Everything you need to know about Colin Powell can be found in Norman Schwartzkopf's 1992 book It Doesn't Take a Hero. Stormin' Norman had no use for Powell.

Still, Powell is a true American success story and probably a decent man.

About the only thing to say about Powell now is not to trash him, but to point out that it appears that racial solidarity is more important to him than policy. Other than that, honor his service, however effective or ineffective it may have been.

This has been the most racially polarizing election in our lifetimes, and it's all because that's how the Democrats and Obambi want it.

I didn’t think that he was on “Meet The Press” to to have tea with Tom Brokaw.

Media will explode the story.

But Powell was moving leftwards for a long time and no surprise here.

I can’t believe it.

Powell plays right into the communists hands. I suppose my taxes should go up so that Powells grandkids get more handouts.

“Yes its based on race. Whats next..Condi..?”

If she weren’t part of the current Republican administration, I’d bet a dollar to a doughnut she’d be endorsing The Black One.

Since it’s all about race, I think we should not refer to him as The One, and use his full title, The Black One.

This announcement was coming.
Now we all have no doubts where he really stood.
What an embarrassment he is.
Good riddance.

Gee, and just yesterday Obambi said there’d “be a place for Powell in [his] Administration”..

But, nah. This COULDN’T POSSIBLY have anything to do with Powell wanting to be a BMOC in an Obambi Administration, COULD IT?

Did he happen to say WHY he’s supporting Obama? (not that we don’t know...I’m just wondering what he said for public consumption).

Exactly. Wonder what position he was promised.

Unfortunately, I believe this election has pushed the improvement made in race relations back 60 years.

Perhaps. Personally, once the leader of the nation is black, it isn't clear to me why there is any need for affirmative action, preferences, and set-asides. If O wins, he becomes "The Man" in the sense it was used in the 60s. There is no longer a limit to what a black person can accomplish other than his own initiative.

Of course, it won't play that way. Too many votes too easily bought.

Watching this you could see that he was just going after every Republican . He didn’t even make a good case for Obama. He also blamed McCain for things that McCain had nothing to do with. It won’t hurt McCain.

I thought Powell would stay neutral. I agree with another poster - he’s trying to burnish his still declining legacy. But I didn’t think he would be quite this
un-american/condoning socialist. A true friend of the ragheads.

...all about skin color with these people?

Sad to say, but I think you are right.
So who’s the bigot?
God help America.

I knew he would do this. I predicted it on a thread here yesterday.

Have you all forgotten that Powell is treacherous? He knowingly allowed Scooter Libby stand trial on the Plame matter when he knew all along that it was his aide Armitage who initiated the so called leak.

A snake is a snake is a snake.

Honestly, although the media will have vapors about this, the average person will say, “Well, he’s black, so that’s why he’s supporting Obama.”

Exactly right, why not bring back Jeremiah Wright to help make this point.

Well, so much for any hope I and others had that General Powell would be consistant with his earlier support of McCain and do the right thing.

The important aspect of this isn’t that Powell has endorsed a fellow Black. It’s that he’s now hitched his wagon, and his credibility, to Barack Obama. If Obama is elected and bad things happen because Obama ISN’T ready, ISN’T experienced, doesn’t have the competence to effectively be President, etc ... Powell’s stature and credibility will be diminished.

Powell is a racist. Powell is a racist.

He cares not for his country just his race.

Let's start a drive to ban the use of "African-American" except in the case of dual citizenship.

So, a former Cabinet Member of the “Evil” Bush administration, the same administration that “lied and people died”, is now endorsing Obama? How does this support Obama’s CHANGE?

I think most whites will see it for what it is: Identity politics. Race trumping values.

Personally, I think this is a nothingburger for Obama. And maybe a shoring up of the (white) base for McCain. As two can play this game.
