Colin Powell endorses Barack Obama for president
PeoplePC Online news ^ | Sunday, October 19, 2008 | Staff

Posted on 10/19/2008 9:28:17 AM PDT by Turret Gunner A20

WASHINGTON - Former Secretary of State Colin Powell endorsed Democrat Barack Obama for president Sunday, describing the Illinois senator as a "transformational figure."

Powell said both Obama and Republican John McCain are qualified to be commander in chief. But he said Obama is better suited to handle the nation's economic problems as well as help improve its standing in the world.

Snip

Powell's endorsement has been much anticipated because he is a Republican with impressive foreign policy credentials. At the same time, he is a black man and Obama would be the nation's first black president. Powell said he was cognizant of the racial aspect of his endorsement, but said that was not the dominant factor in his decision. If it was, he said, he would have made the endorsement months ago.

... Powell expressed disappointment in the negative tone of McCain's campaign, as well as in his choice of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as the Republican vice presidential nominee. "I don't believe she's ready to be president of the United States," Powell said.

Yeah sure. I wonder if he really thinks anyone with over a shoe-sized IQ believes that.

... Powell expressed disappointment in the negative tone of McCain's campaign ....

He should maybe review the situation and find out who the hell started that negative crap.

... as well as in his choice of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as the Republican vice presidential nominee.

"I don't believe she's ready to be president of the United States," Powell said.

Hey, General!!!! I have news for you -- SHE'S NOT RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT!!!!

There goes what was left of any respect for Powell I ever had. He seems to forgotten what he learned at West Point about DUTY, HONOR, COUNTRY. He has completely abandoned those concepts, or he couldn't possible endorse that two-bit Daly Machine crook for any office of trust.

I never really trusted Powell myself, but Powell has now trashed both McCain and Palin...McCain over a false-flag judgement issue and Palin for simply being who she is.

Powell has the audacity (hand in glove with Obama no doubt) to question McCain's judgement in picking the most popular governor in the 50 states and who has more executive experience than her two opponents combined...while giving a pass to the judgement of Obama in hob-knobbing around with abject terrorists, corrupt financiers, and militant racists?

It's time we all called things straight. I do not specifically know why Powell made this choice, but I know a skunk when I see one and when I smell one.

One thing for sure, the judgement issue Powell raised is false and ludicrous on its face so it has to be something else. We're probably looking at another Sec State at least, if not VP in the second term should that, God forbid, come about.

I still believe we can stop the first term and am dedicating all my time and efforts and whatever influence I can muster within my own sphere to that goal.

Wait a minute...Barack Obama was against the war...against Bush policies......Endorsment by Collin Powell?

Colllin Powell started the war in Iraq....Collin Powell was a big Bush supporter...Collin Powell is pro - Military?

This cant be good for really left leaning, war hating liberals.

This endorsment is contrary to everything Obama stands for!!

McCain has betrayed us on many occasions, yet we have to vote for him. But now assorted Rino’s are betraying him. Susan Collins got an additional fifteen minutes of fame for criticizing McCain campaign tactics and now this.

Are Rino’s loyal to anything but themselves?

I NEVER liked Powell - I always thought hims a diva of the first order. This hack’s opinion means nothing - he’s not a good man - he’s a backstabbing POS. He doesn’t deserve respect he deserves scorn. I wonder what Bill Bennett is going to have to say about this guy - who he worships.

as well as in his choice of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as the Republican vice presidential nominee. "I don't believe she's ready to be president of the United States," Powell said.

This logic amazes me every time I hear it. Given Palin is a VP candidate and has more experience than Obama, the only conclusion you can come to is that it is chauvinistic.

They are made up of Hillary voters who believe Obama was “selected” not “elected” by the DNC and as a result they are supporting McCain for President. Key reason why PA is strongly in play and why McCain should be able to hold all the red states.

Sad for Mr. Powell that he chose race over his beliefs. Much like many so called black “Conservatives”.

P.S. here’s a dirty, ugly secret of the Black community. They hate non-African American blacks and Obama is hiding his heritage because he doesn’t want to seem less “black”.

Almost all black Americans will be voting for Obama. Colin Powell will be one of them. Aside from that fact, Powell's politics are clearly in line with Obama’s and not McCains. Powell made it very clear with his appearance on MTP, he is a liberal to his core beliefs. Especially on economic and social issues. His fear of seeing another conservative or two, appointed to the SCOTUS was quite evident.

Powell endorsing Obama also is a personal and political payback. Powell is obviously unhappy with the way many Americans view his time as Bush`s SoS. With this decision, Powell gets to distance himself from the Bush administration and repair his own legacy in the process.

They can embrace it if they want but the right have the fact that Powell is the opposite of Obama....this is an endorsment of Uniting the Race...not Uniting America!

“WHY WOULD OBAMA WANT AN ENDORSEMENT FROM THE GENERAL WHO ENDORSED THE WAR HE HATES....WAS A BUSH SUPPORTER AND IS PRO MILITARY?”

Powell ran down to Mexico and got an agreement signed for the US to give illegal aliens Social Security benefits. Then when he left State, Rice followed up.

Maybe that’s one reason. Will Rice endorse Obama as well?

For 95% of blacks it’s always all about race come election time.

Why should General Powell be the exception, much less the exceptional?

40 years of liberal race hustling indoctrination by public schools and the MSN would be hard for anyone to overcome.

The Left has damned so many to ignorance and dependence in order to secure their votes that the rest of us can only hold our guns ever closer as the inevitable revolution approaches.

Can’t say I’m surprised with Powell’s endorsement, but it does surprise me he moved from center to so far left, I don’t think he did it for Obama’s qualifications or even half the issues he may agree on, maybe not for Country either, emmm what else could it be?

No surprise that Powell, who has always been a staunch advocate of Affirmative Action, would endorse the Black candidate for president.

The Obama campaign has positioned itself as the “Black candidate” running against the “White candidate”. The code words used are “new kind of leader” vs. “the old way” or “the past”.

Because Obama supporters like Powell have put aside their supposed differences with him on most issues and have endorsed him mainly on the basis of race, they have made this election a racial campaign pitting the Black candidate against the White candidate. If one doesn’t support Obama they are either racist or “Uncle Tom”. All other issues are secondary.

It will be interesting to see how the electorate responds to this strategy over the next few weeks.

While not commenting on General Powell's endorsement, I did however take the liberty of a little research. First I went to Wikipedia. One thing lead to another and I found that the good General had applied for his own personal coat of arms. This has been accepted by "The Lord Lyon" of bonnie Scotland no less- why not?

For the General's father was a British subject from Jamaica. This before that country left the Empire. His father then can pass on this ancestral claim to the son. General Powell's bald headed American eagle supplants the usual figure at the top. His motto is to serve the public. Indeed a true one. His maternal line comes from Scotland on the side of the McCoy family.

Quite by chance using GOOGLE, I got Democratic Underground. I read a storm of vituperation against the General. It seems that phrases like "piles of dead soldiers' and "villages destroyed", were used. Seems that the left despised the General.

I eagerly await their swift about face- if such occurs.

Folks... Y’all are gettin’ the lesson of a lifetime.

The skillfulness C. Powell used his half blackness and the benefits thereof is unmatched in the anneals of military history.

I met him for the first and only time while he was a battalion commander @ Ft. Campbell probably sometime in the late-mid 70s. My first impression... the best communication skills one could wish for. The second impression... the only way to trust him would be there’s something in it for him. Third impression... keep him @ a distance. A Patton he wasn’t... An Arnold he is.

Birds of a feather flock together. Acorns don’t fall far from trees. A drunk and a pig are sleeping in a road ditch. The local liberian while walking past stops and says... “You can tell someone who boozes by the company he chooses”... and the pig got up and slowly walked away.

Apply’um where they need to be applied boys!
