FAYETTEVILLE, NC: Colin Powell's intervention did not surprise me. I knew that he thought America was on the wrong track. Last summer I was speaking to one of his closest freinds. He phoned Colin Powell while I was with him and the former secretary of state was fixing his roof at the time.
The message of the friend - a man who had also been in government - was that America was alienating the world by showing a harsh face. He went on: America was at its strongest when it was at its most generous. The country, he said, had to live up to its ideals.
Colin Powell has now echoed that. Barack Obama would be a transformational president and his election would electrify the world, he said.
His endorsement may not influence many Republicans. He was often regarded as a "soft" member of the party. His words may, however, carry weight with swing voters and independents. In essence what he was saying was "You can trust Barack Obama as your commander-in-chief".

I've read Powell's book. He's always been a 'reluctant Republican,' and he has been itching to pay back the Bush Administration and Republicans in general for making him go before the UN and give that speech that turned out to be false. He has never forgiven the Republican Party for that, and this is his twisting of the knife.

It's more than that. Powell's decision is bad for everyone, whether or not they're too stupid to see it yet. Powell should know better than this. Obama is an empty-suit communist.

Powell was front and center leading the charge up UN Security Council hill. He wasn't forced, he could have just walked away, but nope he did the deed. WMDs and all, Saddam's Iraq was a bad actor and had to be taken out. War votes are final, there are no do-overs.
And now we are to believe the Iraq war soldiers died in vain, because that is what he is saying, endorsing cut and run himself.

I cannot understand why he went on MTP in June of 2007, took up for Bush and his involvement in the case for war against Iraq, then gives $2,300 to McCain, then loses all sense of reality and endorses Obama. I can completely understand racial pride, but I am shocked of the kool-aide dripping from his mouth and total lack of criticism of the anti-Palin left.
I find it strange he did it now, instead of on Nov 2nd. This was hastily done. Maybe the Obama campaign are seeing something in their polls which motivated Powell to go on now, instead of Nov 2nd.

There is a substantial amount of ambiguity still about that Leftist “fact” regarding “no weapons of mass destruction”.
Powell, (and the Bush Administration as a whole), could have done a much better job of defending the sound rationale behind that initial supposition, and the subsequent events. Instead they let the Democrats and their media completely dominate that ONE aspect of the GWOT.
One of the lame ass excuses Powell gave was that he didn’t like the negative campaign McCain was running.

Well, in retrospect, perhaps it did seem a little harsh to send U.S. warships to serve as hospitals and shelters as part of our response to the tsunami that hit South Asia in 2004.

Shouldn’t the media at least ask Powell if he’s had discussions with Obama et a and whether a cabinet etc. position had been discussed.

BHO’s numbers are tanking badly. ACORN is now in the sights of many across the US. BHO knew he could never win without huge voter fraud and now ACORN is under a microscope. He can’t win without them....and the FBI are all over them along with various state election authoritites. The people in states as in Ohio are probably raising cain over it all.

If Obama “wins” on 4 Nov and we are subsequently attacked by terrorists, the blood of those American victims will be partly on Powell’s hands. We have all been warned about letting our guard down by letting Obama occupy the White House. Obama will be tested early and often by America’s enemies. He will clearly fail, and God only knows how many American lives will be lost.
The next time we need to airlift food and medical supplies to some desolate part of the world that has just suffered a catastrophic earthquake, we'll use hang-gliders instead of military helicopters.
