A late life change of philosophy?? No thanks. Powell served those who could—and did—serve him...with promotions based upon loyalty and race. Nothing more. Now that he can go no further, Powell becomes the liberal black he has always been, but which would have stood in the way of his career had it been made known. Powell was and is a seeker of advantage, not unlike Obama. And as with the Messiah, integrity is a very changeable comodity.

“Yes, he has claimed to be a Republican,...”

Powell is a man who could have been the first black President. He had reasonably enthusiastic support from the Republican party in 2000 but he refused to run.

Looking back I think Powell was just an opportunist who associated himself with the Republicans as a tool to advance his career. They gave him opportunities that the RAT party couldn’t or wouldn’t. Now he betrays them. What a creep.

1. Powell’s endorsement was secured by the promise of a Cabinet post.

2. Powell has for some time had a chip on his shoulder against the Republican Party and its base.

3. Powell introduced the subject of race into the discussion. That suggests to this observer that race played a factor in his decision.

My point is that Jamacia was a slave colony for a few centuries, complete with “breaking camps”. Also, the model was to work a large number of the slaves to death and replace, far worse than in the (American) colonies.

MMMM... sugar, what would YOU do for it?

if you take race out of it,

You can't take race out if it. If you did, there would be a) no endorsement by Powell and b) no one who cares.

Powell has proven himself to be nothing more than a tool for the same agenda-driven libs who once branded him Uncle Tom.

And, I want to hear from them...ALL of them. What I am - dare I say it? - offended by is the portrayal of race (and even gender) in this election cycle.

The ‘Rats and the media (but I repeat myself) have reduced everything in the race to its lowest, most common of denominators. It’s disgusting.

He can’t take race out of it, but I could.

Race isn’t an issue unless your someone supporting a Democrat.

“Powell’s endorsement was secured by the promise of a Cabinet post.”

The man was Chairman of the Joint chiefs of staff and Sec of State. What cabinet position would interest him and not be seen as a step down?

Powell is an opportunist.

Powell become prominent in the public eye riding General Schwarzkopf's success, while simultaneously insuring the success wouldn't last.

Powell is either incredibly ignorant of who Obama is —in which case Powell is stupid for endorsing without finding out

OR he knows who Obama is —in which case Powell is Like Benedict Arnold

I wonder how much influence his wife had on his decision
