John McCain in a phone interview on Laura Ingraham's morning show expressed great confidence in the direction of the campaign leading up to November 4.

The quote that stood out for me was the title of the thread. Laura and others have been in a panic, reading RCP averages and oversampled polls rather than looking at the direction these polls have been moving in the last week.

Good for him. Fight to the finish. This is very winnable.

With God’s Mercy, and a prayerful, repentant, and humbled people - yes, 0bama will never be in power.

Okay Senator, but stop saying that you are behind in the polls at -6 like you did yesterday.

Well, yeah, if he was as optimistic as she is, he would have conceded long before he named Sarah Palin.

i think both campaign's internals are showing mccain surge...you can get a sense from Obama and Bidens rhetoric the last few days.

This means nothing. No candidate will ever admit that he was going to lose two weeks before the election.

And stop saying that Obama is a decent person and would make a fine president.

Right on! One more thing. WOULD SOMEBODY TELL PRESIDENT BUSH TO SHUT UP FOR THE NEXT TWO WEEKS?

We put up our “Obama = Voter Fraud” yard sign this morning.

Be sure to offer your Republican friends a ride to the polls if they need it.

Not to mention, why is Obama going this week to Madison, Wisconsin of all places ?

I think it’s better that McCain is more confident than I am.

I pinged you on another thread about McCain's appearance on Laura's show. He did say "we're about five points down", but he also said that they are seeing daily tightening in the spread.

Perhaps I was hearing what I wanted to hear, but he sounded more confident and more on message then I've heard in the part month. I think he believes his hype, and has reason to do so. :)

I think that what could derail the McCain campaign during the last 2 weeks of the campaign could be extraneous circumstances such as George Bush, a further steep dropoff in the stock market or meltdown in the economy, or a Republican scandal. Barring something like that Obama’s ‘problems’, Joe the Plumber, and Palin power should propel the campaign forward and I think the undecideds will break to McCain. What the final outcome will be is anybody’s guess!

Less talkie. More actie. McCain’s biggest leads were when he appealed to independents with a message of fiscal conservatism while being strong on defense. That was after his convention.

I’m not holding my breath given how long it took the McCain campaign to finally form a narrative on their plan for the economy with Joe the Plumber.

Half the battle is also pushing up Obama’s negatives so that undecideds break towards McCain as the safe choice. That’ll be McCain’s big challenge the next 2 weeks, especially given how its becoming a media talking point that Palin is inexperienced.

I’m not holding my breath for McCain but I hope he fights just so that we don’t have our filibuster swept away by an Obama sweep.

McCain needs to keep telling America that Hussein is the Socialist he is.
