NK Leader Makes Public Appearance: ABC Report
North Korean leader Kim Jong-il has made his first public appearance in nearly two months, U.S. broadcaster ABC reported Monday.
ABC cited analysts who said the appearance is "aimed at quelling speculations about his health," according to Yonhap News.
The report, however, did not elaborate on when and where Kim made the appearance. The South Korean government also declined to confirm the report, saying, ``Kim's public activity has not been detected recently.''
Reports have said he suffered a stroke and underwent brain surgery but North Korea denied the reports.
In its report, ABC showed footage of Kim entering a room in white attire, but beside him was a man believed to be former North Korean Prime Minister Yon Hyong-muk who died years ago.
Kim has been absent from public view since Aug. 14, spawning speculation about his health.
North Korea's official Korean Central News Agency released a photo of Kim in early October, saying he visited a female artillery unit to boost the morale of the troops.
Skepticism, however, abounded about the authenticity of the photo, which has a background of summer forest when North Korea in October should have fall colors.
North Korean media also reported Kim watched a football game a couple of weeks ago without revealing the date or showing any photos or video images of him.
North Korean media usually report Kim Jong-il's public appearances belatedly without giving specific dates, Yonhap said.
It is bad enough that Chia Head's supposedly recent photos have lush summer greens in the background. ABC News just had to top it with his picture with a dead guy beside him.
Ping!
Were they going into an ACORN office to register to vote?
Can the MSM sink any lower?
Weekend at Bernie’s?
Chia head lives!
Well, he did last year.
What saps.
How foolish.
How long before the adults are back in command at ABC? (if they ever were in the first place).
Journalists Harry Reasoner, Howard K. Smith and Frank Reynolds would be turning in their graves.
Same with his brain activity.
LOL.
I can not admit that I am a devote reader of the news from North Korea so I do not know if they regularly report government meetings. They did today,(only in the Korean section, not in English) Is this http://www.kcna.co.jp/calendar/2008/10/10-21/2008-1020-011.html a normal report or something unusual?
This seems to not be anything particularly out of the ordinary. TLR?
Can’t link.
Is this the “big announcement” that was supposed to come out yesterday?
There are lame attempt to cover up the story of his illness, publishing fake pictures supposedly showing his recent activities.
However, we have not heard any announcement of importance from N. Korea's media. Maybe this time Japanese media(Sankei Shimbun) jumped the gun. If there is no announcement for a few more days, We could say Yomiuri Shimbun also jumped the gun.
Now Mainichi Shimbun reported yesterday that Kim watched a soccer game, and got upset over long hairs of some soccer players. This may be also a planted story which try to convince outsiders that he is up and around. ABC News also joined in the fray and reported that Kim finally showed up in public after two months of hiding, which turned out to be false because the picture they ran turned out to be from 2002. A dead guy was standing next to him in the picture.
Some medias are jumping the gun, and the others are suckered into N. Korea's PR spin.
There are still many question marks about Kim's status, but he must be sick enough to forgo his normal work routine.
Little Kim can raise the dead. This trumps BO’s laying on of hands...
