Neal Boortz: To The Undecided Voter (VERY long, but good)
Townhall ^ | October 21, 2008 | Neal Boortz

Posted on 10/21/2008 11:10:35 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

This is long; very long. Hey, I’m a pretty entertaining writer … so give it a go. If you’re an undecided voter in this presidential election the least you owe your country is to try to base your final choice on some substantive facts. No, I don’t have all the facts here … but I have enough of them to perhaps convince you that voting one particular way on November 4th might not be the most brilliant move you’ve ever made.

This election is my 10th. My 10th presidential election since I became a radio talk show host. My 10th election since I began spending more time than the average American thinking about, researching, reading about and talking about the choices voters faces. Look; I mean no arrogance here. It’s just that the average American doesn’t spend from 15 (then) to 22.5 (now) hours a week over the period of a presidential race talking about the candidates, the issues, the non-issues and the consequences of voter choice.

Never in those ten elections can I remember choices so stark and possible outcomes so perilous. For the record, over those 10 elections I voted for the Republican candidate six times and the Libertarian four. Never have I voted for a Democrat for president. I see no need to vote for a Democrat since I have no plans or desires to become a ward of the government. Somehow I don’t think 2008 is going to be the first time.

I’ve noted that some other “pundits” out there are starting to post, in columns and in their blogs, the reasons they are going to vote the way they are going to vote.

This is stupid. If there is an undecided voter left alive at this stage of the game he's no way going to read a lengthy screed on a minor conservative website.

"Undecided's" are not intelligent people looking for the last drops of fact. They are insipid morons who will decide based on the last soundbite they hear heading into the polling booth.

Best line:

“We are, my friends, about to have a president who doesn’t qualify for a security clearance. Pretty pathetic. If Barack Obama becomes president, he would not even qualify to be his own bodyguard.”

thanks for posting. I’ve been looking (and praying) for the right thing to give to an undecided friend. (black woman who feels pulled to vote BHO in spite of her Christianity).

I predict this person to whom you are referring will indeed vote for Oprah’s Obama no matter what you are able to attempt. Race is an overriding factor for so many.

Not the case here. She’s pressured by her large, black extended family to vote Obama although she is very against his record and stance on abortion.

First: A correction to Neal (gasp) - It was 1875 not 1975 that Marx wrote "Critique of the Gotha Program.”

Second: "In 1994 the voters were fed up with Clinton and the Republicans swept to control of both houses of congress, largely on the strength of Newt’s Contract with America. Do you remember some of the promises?"

Yes but (there is always a but) -> what makes control possible is not just majorities but that magic 60 votes in the Senate, something which looks quite possible for the Democrats in this election.

From the 1994 election on, how many sessions have the GOP had that control? Never, maximum was 55 in the 1997-105th, 2001-107th and 2005-109th. Add to that the decline of the 'Scoop Jackson' Democrats and you have Senates that still leaned left due to people like Jeffords, Chaffey (New England GOP votes liberal). Thus the GOP had control and the blame but real politics shows that the Democrats still could block and had the media ever on their side!

Remember the 'shutdown' of the Government (Winter 1995/6) by the GOP House and Senate? What were the stories that the 'news' media carried? What parts of the government did the Clinton Administration actually shut down? Who won the PR Battle and so why have we conservatives NEVER had a REAL CONTROL of Congress?

This is the REAL DANGER of an Obama Presidency, it moves the 'goal posts'. Nothing is so permanent as a bureaucracy and its governmental mandate. Read the public words that found each and every 'social welfare' program and how all of its advocates talk about the strict limits to scope and cost. How quickly these precepts are forgotten by the next office-holders and bureaucrats who gain votes and money by expanding 'opportunity. We are warned but we are, I am afraid, DOOMED!

NO Thanks, I saw Bortz on FOX the other day, He said (paraphrase) " John Lewis is a civil rights hero and my congressman, so even though he accused McCain and Palin of being racist I will still probably vote for him"

Pretty much turned my stomach and my ears off to Bortz.

Is that true?

Yeah, unfortunately. I think it was on Cavuto, I'm trying to place it.

I was at my Dads we just both sat there, never expected it from Bortz.

That’s hard to take. I listen to Boortz most days and can’t believe he thinks that about John Lewis. Lewis is off the deep end.

I haven't heard him on the radio in a couple years, just because I don't have a radio on at work anymore.

It was really kind of surreal, maybe you can get him to address it on his show.

I would be happy to be wrong about it or have it cleared up.....but its what he said.

“I guess you you folks have missed out on Neal’s sarcastic streak.”

OK, sarcasm goes over my head some times. I would tend to believe Boortz was being sarcastic rather than serious. I didn’t hear the clip so I don’t know.

True. But it is dismaying to know that your carefully considered vote can be cancelled by an impulsive muscle-twitch by your idiot nitwit neighbor. That's democracy for you.
