Obama: Biden Prone to 'Rhetorical Flourishes'
Washington Post ^ | October 22, 2008 | Robert Barnes

Posted on 10/22/2008 12:15:26 PM PDT by presidio9

Democrat Barack Obama said today there is no reason to believe that he is more likely to be tested by an international crisis if elected than if rival John McCain is, and said the important question is how the next president responds.

"Whoever is the next president is going to have to deal with a whole host of challenges internationally -- and a period of transition in a new administration is always one in which we have to be vigilant," Obama said after meeting here with his team of national security and foreign policy advisers.

He was responding to a question about an assertion by his running mate, Joe Biden, over the weekend. "Mark my words," Biden had said. "It will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy. The world is looking."

McCain's campaign has used the statement to imply that Obama is not ready to lead in a dangerous world.

Even though Biden's words suggested that Obama would be singled out for the test, Obama brushed the comment off, saying, "I think Joe sometimes engages in rhetorical flourishes."

"We are going to face a number of threats and tests and challenges because for the last eight years we've had a policy, a bad set of policies, that have resulted in two unresolved wars, bin Laden and al-Qaeda communicating regularly and training folks to potentially attack America and an economy that has been in a free fall," Obama said.

"The question is, will the next president meet that test by moving America in a new direction -- by sending a clear signal to the rest of the world that we are no longer about bluster and unilateralism and ideology, but we're about creating partnerships around the world to solve practical problems.

Was Biden properly vetted? What does his selection say about Obama’s judgment? [plus whatever else they said when McCain selected Palin]

I am not kidding when I say that the thought of Biden being one heartbeat away from the presidency fills me with dread. The man is not all there.

And how is that going to work for us in a tense international situation or delicate conversations with heads of state at dinner parties?....I’m just sayin’.

He (Obama) was responding to a question about an assertion by his running mate, Joe Biden, over the weekend. "Mark my words," Biden had said. "It will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy. The world is looking."

The obvious question from a real reporter would be, "Senator Obama, Did you factor in your running-mate's rhetorical flourishes when you picked him to be your Vice-President? And a follow up please, Doesn't such a statement, which is just another of Senator Biden's innumerable gaffes over the course of his Senate career, justify the Republican's criticism of your bad judgement and inexperience?"

I'll find my own way out. Thank you.

That’s one way of putting it, Barry. I suppose. If Sarah Palin (or John McCain) were indulging in that that sort of “rhetorical flourish”, you (and your lapdog press gaggle) would call it “erratic babbling”.

"Democrat Barack Obama said today there is no reason to believe that he is more likely to be tested by an international crisis if elected than if rival John McCain is"

I have some history to share with Obama. Maybe he was "doing some blow" when this happened. But there was this peanut farmer named Jimmy Carter...when he was President, Iran felt comfortable enough, and knew that Jimmy would just smile when they took American hostages.

Those people remained hostages until the very day that the Presidency was assumed by the next Republican President, Ronald Reagan.

Iran tested a soft, weak Democrat and found him spineless. When a Republican took control, Iran put it's tail between it's leg and pissed all over itself, and made sure that those hostages were released.

See what you miss Obama when you're too busy smoking pot, drinking booze, and snorting cocaine?

Great post!

See what you miss Obama when you're too busy smoking pot, drinking booze, and snorting cocaine?

Obama must have missed this little event as well, when a bunch of Somali gunmen decided to test another inexperienced Democrat President, It was midafternoon, Oct. 3, 1993. That one didn't work out so well for the U.S. either.

Regards,

TS

Obama’s first position was that Palin was not qualified to be president. His current position is that Biden is not qualified to even talk about who should be president.

Obama’s judgment - Opposition to troop surge, selection of Senator Biden for VP. Really gives you confidence doesn't it.
