Interview with Sarah Palin Immigration, latino vote, Irak, Obama (Univision)
Univision.com ^ | 22 October 08 | Jorge Ramos

...Governor, let me ask you about immigration. How many undocumented immigrants are there in Alaska?

I don't know, I don't know. That's a good question.

As governor, how do you deal with them? Do you think they all should be deported?

There is no way that in the US we would roundup every illegal immigrant -there are about 12 million of the illegal immigrants- not only economically is that just an impossibility but that's not a humane way anyway to deal with the issue that we face with illegal immigration.

Do you then favor an amnesty for the 12 or 13 million undocumented immigrants?

No, I do not. I do not. Not total amnesty. You know, people have got to follow the rules. They've got to follow the bar, and we have got to make sure that there is equal opportunity and those who are here legally should be first in line for services being provided and those opportunities that this great country provides.

To clarify, so you support a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants?

I do because I understand why people would want to be in America. To seek the safety and prosperity, the opportunities, the health that is here. It is so important that yes, people follow the rules so that people can be treated equally and fairly in this country.

And the last question would be about politics. You only have two more weeks left...

Yes

What is your strategy? How are you planning to win the latino vote?

I will tell you, I wish that there were more hours in the day so that we can get out there and to more of the communities with such the strong Latino vote that is out there and really tell them that we desire to work for them. We are asking them to hire us and let us work for them.

Thank you so much. It would be impossible to ask you to say a few words in Spanish, right?

Oh my good-well, I don't want to embarrass myself, but … but gracias and I do thank you so much for this opportunity. I appreciate it.

Thank you, muchas gracias, thank you.

....”granting any kind of amnesty to people who have broken our laws”....

Notice the difference in your statement above....and hers.

“....You know, people have got to follow the rules. They’ve got to follow the bar,....”

She mentions NOTHING about them having broken the LAW. That’s the problem with people who think like Sarah and Juan. In their liberal world, some laws were just made to be broken.

there are actually plans to citizenship that are good out there and they are NOT amnesty.

I agree. The one in place for decades is one - people stay in their own country until legal channels are cleared here, they apply for citizenship, learn English, and pay a fee - and wait until our country has a need for their services (not come over just when they want to suck us dry). It's worked fine until the feds started ignoring the existing laws. ;(

“What would be the purpose of being more hardline than that (So I might understand).”

The purpose? A lesson in history....AMNESTY begets AMNESTY.

There was an attempt made, during Senate debate on the 1996 immigration bill, to eliminate the “chain migration” provision that Senator Kennedy had slipped into the 1965 immigration bill. Total annual legal immigration had increased from less than 300,000 in 1965 to more than a million a year primarily because of the ‘65 bill’s provisions allowing immigrants to send for all of their adult relatives. Then each of those relatives can send for their and their spouse’s adult relatives, creating an endless chain with fractel-like growth. An anchor baby, born on American soil and with American citizenship, serves as the first link in the chain (the ruling giving citizenship to children born on U.S. soil regardless of their parents legal status here goes back to 1898.) But Senator Simpson’s attempt to stem chain migration failed, to a great extent thanks to Spencer Abraham, who lost his bid for re-election partially as a result of the role he played in getting some of the strongest provisions removed from the 1996 bill and partially because Michigan in the meantime was overrun by Middle East immigrants who voted Democrat in that election. Hoist on his own open-border petard.

*Even the dems cannot change our constitution in just 4 years*

With a take over they don’t have to bother with the constitution. I spent some days in 1983 in a country
that was taken over earlier, East Germany. Obama is right out of their playbook only there will be no country to rescue us.

I can see you don’t have a clue how serious the situation is or are a DU troll pushing for the final end of America.

Just because I disagree with you doesn’t mean you have to resort to insults. THAT makes you more likely to be a lib.

You don’t know much about history either. East Germany was created by force (Soviets got that part of Germany after WWII). Even Obama cannot set aside our constitution just because he wants it.

I’m not for Obama, but your irrational and melodramatic statements don’t make a case against him. Just makes you seem like a looney.

I know only too well East Germany was taken over by force.
I grew up with people who were able to escape towards the end of the war and also lived in a neighborhood with dozens and dozens of people fresh out of the concentration camps.

Yes, I am such a liberal, that is why I worked for Reagan when he first ran for Gov.

McCain needed Palin to keep her mouth shut on this one. I’ve seen many rabid anti-illegal immigration/anti-amnesty FReepers change their minds about voting (for) McCain ONLY because she’s on the ticket, thinking she’d knock some sense into him after the election.

McCain could win this election easily, just by renouncing his position on this one issue. He CHOOSES not to. Frankly, I’d rather he do so, and unite the party, than waste his time trying to get anyone to hear the negatives about Obama. It’s very difficult to knock a ‘messiah’ off his thrown and they aren’t listening anyway.

McCain changing his mind about Amnesty is as likely as him realizing Global Warming is a utter fraud.

I think we need to start reporting these kinds of statements. Freepers who throw such nonsense at other Freepers are, IMO, in great need of a time out.

>>and wait until our country has a need for their services<<

The problem is that employers, lobbyists, and bureaucrats might have a different idea of “our country has a need” from workers who can lose their jobs, or have their wages lowered.

It’s a misreading of the 14th amendment, originally introduced to grant citizenship to the former slave population. If they were born in the US, they’re a citizen.

It’s been corrupted by liberal judges to include anyone who sneaks in illegally to have a baby.

The SC needs to revisit the precedent or the 14th needs to be repealed.

Gotta stand up for the fuzzy one on this...if Cottonball is a troll she (or he) has an oddly consistent right lean for the last couple of years.

These meetings between FR’s mainstream and the border hawks never fail to show which group is more conservative.

One of my 5 San Diego Congressmen, Duncan Hunter ran in the primary, He was my candidate in the primary.

I am supporting the American, John McCain over the Marxist Obama in the general election.

I along with other border hawks countered over 50,000 Mexicans marching here a few years ago.

Many border hawks on FR are doves, anti war when it comes
to fighting the war we are in against the terrorists.
They think if the Muslims win, they will take care of the border problem.

This will be moot, as we will have already been taken care of and America will have been taken over by the Muslim enemy.

The third Party WingNuts are for Amnesty as Bob “ACLU” Barr
along with being anti war including Chuck Baldwin.

Both who also think 9/11 was an inside job by the U.S. Gov.

I am so glad to vote for John McCain and Sarah Palin, the American adults in this race.

Geez. What is it with otherwise intelligent people. Surely someone should have mentioned to her by now that you get more of what you reward, and granting any kind of amnesty to people who have broken our laws is rewarding them for that behavior — and will result in more of it.

When you are blinded by fear and emotion, that's when the rational thinking stops.
