N.O. Woman Gets New Gun To Replace One Taken During Katrina

.O. Woman Gets New Gun To Replace One Taken During Katrina By The confiscated gun has yet to be returned, says Cong. Steve Scalise and the Gun Owners of America Wednesday, October 22, 2008 A New Orleans woman whose gun was confiscated by law enforcement officers in the days after Katrina, and who was injured during the incident at her home, got a brand new 38-caliber revolver Wednesday, courtesy of the Gun Owners of America.

61-year-old Patricia Konie says getting a new gun is a great idea because now she's more afraid of police than she was before.

Konie says she was devastated when officers took her gun, but was even more devastated when they tackled her to get the weapon, and in the process broke her collarbone.

Congressman Steve Scalise and Larry Pratt, executive director of the Gun Owners of America, presented the new gun to Konie. Scalise calls the gun confiscation "a national tragedy".

"People all across this nation were shocked when they saw this actually happened to a law-abiding American citizen in their home," Scalise said.

The incident led to a lawsuit filed by the National Rifle Association and the Gun Owners of America for infringing on Konie's 2nd Amendment rights. The suit was recently dropped after all sides agreed that confiscated firearms would be returned to their owners.

Scalise and Pratt say the gun taken from Konie has never been returned.

Well, martial law actually doesn’t supersede 2A, it’s just that the bunch of armed mouth breathing thugs that constituted NOLA law enforcement following Katrina was too stupid and/or ignorant to know that. I mean, Constitutionally, you should never get mugged, but people still do.

YOU need to read this, every word of it!

The Gun is Civilization
by Marko Kloos of the
Munchkin Wrangler blog

Human beings only have two ways to deal with one another: reason and force. If you want me to do something for you, you have a choice of either convincing me via argument, or force me to do your bidding under threat of force. Every human interaction falls into one of those two categories, without exception. Reason or force, that’s it.

In a truly moral and civilized society, people exclusively interact through persuasion. Force has no place as a valid method of social interaction, and the only thing that removes force from the menu is the personal firearm, as paradoxical as it may sound to some.

When I carry a gun, you cannot deal with me by force. You have to use reason and try to persuade me, because I have a way to negate your threat or employment of force.

The gun is the only personal weapon that puts a 100-pound woman on equal footing with a 220-pound mugger, a 75-year old retiree on equal footing with a 19-year old gang banger, and a single guy on equal footing with a carload of drunk guys with baseball bats. The gun removes the disparity in physical strength, size, or numbers between a potential attacker and a defender.

There are plenty of people who consider the gun as the source of bad force equations. These are the people who think that we’d be more civilized if all guns were removed from society, because a firearm makes it easier for a [armed] mugger to do his job. That, of course, is only true if the mugger’s potential victims are mostly disarmed either by choice or by legislative fiat—it has no validity when most of a mugger’s potential marks are armed.

People who argue for the banning of arms ask for automatic rule by the young, the strong, and the many, and that’s the exact opposite of a civilized society. A mugger, even an armed one, can only make a successful living in a society where the state has granted him a force monopoly.

Then there’s the argument that the gun makes confrontations lethal that otherwise would only result in injury. This argument is fallacious in several ways. Without guns involved, confrontations are won by the physically superior party inflicting overwhelming injury on the loser.

People who think that fists, bats, sticks, or stones don’t constitute lethal force watch too much TV, where people take beatings and come out of it with a bloody lip at worst. The fact that the gun makes lethal force easier works solely in favor of the weaker defender, not the stronger attacker. If both are armed, the field is level.

The gun is the only weapon that’s as lethal in the hands of an octogenarian as it is in the hands of a weight lifter. It simply wouldn’t work as well as a force equalizer if it wasn’t both lethal and easily employable.

When I carry a gun, I don’t do so because I am looking for a fight, but because I’m looking to be left alone. The gun at my side means that I cannot be forced, only persuaded. I don’t carry it because I’m afraid, but because it enables me to be unafraid. It doesn’t limit the actions of those who would interact with me through reason, only the actions of those who would do so by force. It removes force from the equation...and that’s why carrying a gun is a civilized act.

So the greatest civilization is one where all citizens are equally armed and can only be persuaded, never forced.

Never surrender your weapons unless you want to become someone’s slave.

"BTW, I truly believe that Katrina was divine retribution agaisnt and evil licentious city."

Is that your thinking about all the disasters that decimate any given area? For instance, what did the people of Greensburg, Kansas do to bring the wrath of God down on themselves? How about the people of Galveston and Houston who got hit by hurricane Ike? What about the Midwest floods of a few months back, did those people lose their homes and businesses because of their evil doings? If you want to judge New Orleans, you better be ready to judge them all.

Despite what you may think, New Orleans is a very religious city. The majority of the city is made up of hardworking, churchgoing people and though Catholicism is the predominant religion, you can find people of all faiths here. According to your narrow-minded take on things, and if the storm was indeed divine retribution, wouldn't Bourbon Street, that well known area of sin and iniquity, have been completely destroyed? Surprise, surprise, it was almost completely unscathed. I'm a Catholic too, Mr. Opus Dei, and I can tell you that your sarcastic mention of a misogynist like Beast Butler and your mean spirited attitude about the destruction of a city that prior to the storm was home to 450,000 souls and that suffered the deaths of 1500 of that number, tells me all I need to know about you and your holier than thou attitude. Oh, and btw, since the Mississippi coast got the worst of the actual hit from Katrina, just what in the name of heaven was their "sin"?

Butler did what he did for two reasons.

To drive the sense of defeat home to the unreconstructed rebels, and because some bimbo emptied her chamber-pot on Admiral Farragut’s head.

Guess what, that proclamation of his stopped insults and attacks against Union troops and sailors.

Oh, and NOLA got it for allowing such jungles as Calliope and Magnolia to exist, permitting such corruption as Nagin and all of your pre-Jindal governors, and for that licentious behavior that happens during Mardi Gras.

You did have a great orchestra, though. And yes, then-Maestro Entremont was a close personal friend. Even he refused to venture into the Quarter after very late.

The goa never did have a lawsuit. They sat back and let the NRA and the Second Amendment Foundation file the lawsuits.

The NRA and the SAF have been working for over a year and the only thing the goa does is donate ONE gun to that lady. If it wasn’t for the video on the NRA’s site no one would know who the lady was.

It’s nice the lady has a gun now but the tshirt company[goa] should go back to selling their tshirts.

"Oh, and NOLA got it for allowing such jungles as Calliope and Magnolia to exist"

I see. Of course I'm sure that you can give me other examples of God destroying a city because it had housing projects, or do they only exist in New Orleans?

"....,permitting such corruption as Nagin"

First tell me what actual corruption Nagin has been accused of and what criminal action has been taken against him. Secondly, name another metropolitan city that has had corrupt officials presently or in their past and that has subsequently been destroyed by God because of said corruption.

"....and all of your pre-Jindal governors,"

You are kidding, right? You are honestly suggesting that God destroyed the city of New Orleans in 2005 because He didn't approve of all the Louisiana governors dating back to 1716?

"...and for that licentious behavior that happens during Mardi Gras.

Can you be serious? How much do you actually know about Mardi Gras? Apart from some often hyped goings on in the French Quarter, Mardi Gras is a day when families dress up in costumes, go to parades to catch beads and trinkets, sometimes cook out, and just have a great day. It's sad that you only see evil in it, but again that says quite a bit about you.

Apart from that though, give me examples of any other city where so called "licentious behavior" has taken place and that has been destroyed by God in retribution. Offhand, I can think of several big cities that might have a bit of licentiousness going on. New York, Las Vegas, Chicago come to mind, but so far no flood, fire or pestilence. Or in the case of Chicago, no recent fire anyway. How come?

In my original post I asked that if, according to you, Katrina was God's retribution on New Orleans, what was His motivation behind the Mississippi gulf coast(devastated by Katrina) Greensburg, Kansas(town wiped out by tornado), Texas/Louisiana( hurricane Ike), and the Midwest( enormous floods resulting is terrible loss of property). I'm sure you have an opinion. Can't wait to hear it.

“Old School Catholic”

Do you accept the authority of Pope Benedict XVI?

If so how does your belief that G-d killed a thousand old people in a flood square with “God is Love?”

For the life of me I cannot understand how somebody can believe this nonsense and hide (lie) behind religion...

Well you are sick...and a liar too, Opus Dei, my ass!

You are sick with hate and lies. And certainly not very bright.

I didn’t say that, idiot.

I said that God allows a lot of things to happen to good people, and occasionally lets the bad ones happen.

God’s judgment on the Holocaust was what happened to Hamburg, Berlin, Cologne, and Dresden.

By the way, watch what you say. Or have you not read the warning about personal attacks?

By all means, please go to a Moderator.

The reason she didn’t get her gun back is because NOPD was working with the BATFE in the gun confiscations (Until the DOJ told them to stop). Very few guns held by BATFE were returned.

"God is love."

Thank you for the backup. IMO as well, that simple statement could not be more true. I went to Catholic grade school, high school and college, that adds up to, among my other courses, sixteen years of religion classes taught by nuns and priests. I've also attended Mass, sometimes daily, and I never remember sermons in which the priest blamed and castigated the victims of a natural disaster for what had befallen them. This would have surely stuck in my mind because I've lived through hurricanes in both Miami and New Orleans and of course attended church in those places.

I can't understand people who espouse these kinds of views. I had a friend who was a classmate of mine in high school. She came from a devout Catholic family. After high school and college she met and fell in love with a Jewish boy. She converted to Judism, they married and had a family. Tragically, sometime later one of her children died of a sudden illness. A mutual, very religious and highly educated Catholic friend, actually insinuated that it was a punishment from God because she had converted! I was flabbergasted! How narrow, how mean, how preposterous! It was many years ago, but that ignorant assertion still makes me shake my head.
