If she did it herself as a set up for “O”bama, then why would this highly intelligent and politically astute young woman use the letter “B” instead of the letter “O” that everyone involved in politics knows is the Obama symbol, just as the swastika is widely known.

Instead the fact that its a “B” further indicates an ignorant attacker, in a hurry and confused on what to carve or in his mind he thinks its “B” for “Bama” instead of O.

The fact he put B just cements it even more that this was no self inflicted mutilation. Just another stupid you know what (uh, thug, that’s right thug) who screwed even this up.

Ever see the photo of the moronic road painting crew that dyslexically painted Sotp in stead of Stop on the pavement?

Or Scool instead of School?

This reminds me of those type of situations.

Maybe we are looking at two different photos, but "in a hurry and confused" does not match up with the wounds.

SBprone in #942 explains why people familiar with stabbings and slash wounds (and violent attacks in general) think there would have been a much more violent wound than what's in the photo. She stated that the guy was very angry and was punching and kicking her. As SBprone pointed out, when you hit that point and the adrenaline is flowing, you lose fine motor control.

Note, I'm not necessarily passing judgment on her, but I do have questions about the situation, given what SBprone and others have said here and elsewhere as far as the wound itself, as well as why she refused medical attention - if she was attacked, she needs to get it documented just how extensive the injuries are, otherwise it won't hold up in court. The cops can take pictures, but you really need medical records documenting how deep the wounds were, etc., otherwise a half-decent defense lawyer will get the case thrown out and any perps would walk free. They are liable to recreate the wound with a paper clip or something else sharp that can scratch, and show it to the jury and tear her story apart.

In other words, she's not taking the steps she needs to take in order to get any perpetrators sent to prison.

Very sad either way. I blame Drudge at this point for a screaming headline ‘Mutilated’ and ‘a B carved in her face’. I am not the only Freeper that was brought to tears earlier today when it was first reported(before the pics came out).

The only reason it was believed, was because it IS BELIEVABLE! There are real reports of violence and property damage going on all over the country right now on McCain/Palin supporters. It is escalating. The left in this country is unglued.

A knife-wielding man robbed a McCain-Palin campaign volunteer and etched a “B” into her face after he saw a McCain bumper sticker on the woman’s car, Pittsburgh police said.

Ashley Todd, 20, of College Station, Texas, was using an ATM at Liberty Avenue and Pearl Street in Bloomfield just before 9 p.m. Wednesday when a man approached her, put a knife to her throat and demanded $60, police said.

Todd handed the man $60 she had in her pocket and stepped away from him, investigators said. The man then noticed the bumper sticker on the woman's car, which was parked in front of the ATM. The man became very angry, made comments to Todd about John McCain and punched her in the back of the head, knocking her to the ground, police said.

"He continued to kick and punch her repeatedly and said he would teach her a lesson for supporting John McCain," said police Chief Nate Harper.

The man then carved the "B" into Todd's right cheek. Todd, who isn't familiar with the area, drove to a friend's house nearby and told her friend she wasn't sure of the exact location where the robbery took place but remembered a green sign above the ATM. The friend called police and the officer met them on Cypress Street in Bloomfield, police said.

Todd's friend offered to drive her back in the direction she came from to look at ATMs until she found the right one, police said. A police officer followed until Todd pointed out a Citizens Bank ATM at Liberty and Pearl, police said.

She declined medical treatment at the scene and said she would go to a hospital today.

Todd declined to comment.

"She is a volunteer for the McCain-Palin campaign," said campaign spokesman Peter Feldman. "Sen. McCain has reached out to her via telephone and has spoken to her and her family,” as has McCain’s running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, Feldman said. “Out of respect for her privacy we're not going to comment further."

Democrat Barack Obama's campaign released a statement saying: “Our thoughts and prayers are with the young woman for her to make a speedy recovery, and we hope that the person who perpetrated this crime is swiftly apprehended and brought to justice."

Police described the suspect as black, about 6-foot-4, and said he was wearing dark-colored jeans and a black undershirt.

The ATM has a security camera and investigators are trying to watch the video, police said.

First, the fact that the attacker was said to be 6’4” accounts for the “backwards” B. It’s already been mentioned that it could be upside down, but if the attacker is taller the natural writing movement will produce a backwards B.

Second, “down to the bone” is not something that typically occurs in any sort of slashing. In fact, I’d doubt any member of law enforcement would say that. The cheek is comprised primarily of soft fatty tissue, with only the upper cheekbones providing a bony surface (not cut in the victim’s pictures). As a relatively thick and fatty substance, cheeks have a lot of “give” and will not easily slice with knives.

While you and the vast majority of conveniently-just-joined-to-complain trolls will say she’s somehow only seeking attention, the fact remains that there are plenty of logical explanations for this that do not point towards self-mutilation.

I was just pointing out what others had said and really hadn't made up my mind, but in your case, I'll play devil's advocate - if there is "a lot of give" in that area, in your words, then why would the "B" look so neat? I've carved a lot of turkeys in my time, and any time there is "a lot of give" in an area, it get very difficult to keep a consistent line, curved or straight. If I had been angry, it would have been very difficult to keep a consistent line, curved or straight.

Yes, it was very convenient of me to join 10 years ago and then again six years ago when I created another account (after having spent a few years overseas with limited internet access). I was so bored waiting for this one thread, I posted several thousand times over the last six years.

Even her local police department thinks things are a little weird, and her case is not helped by her blog postings after the attack.

I agree completely. It's very believable that something like this could happen. If I had any desire to stick a McCain sign in my yard or a bumper sticker on my car, I'm sure it would be stolen or my car keyed. I'm in the most liberal part of Texas (although most of my neighbors are old hippies or pothead college kids that wouldn't bother, our street gets plenty of traffic).

This woman has two black eyes. SHe was likely hit on the bridge of her nose. Had a few shiners like that myself.

Putting a neat B on her cheek is no problem. You just grab the face and use a sharp point, like a nail or needle,and write it right between thumb and forefinger.

The woman did not move, and was either scarred stiff or completely limp and semi sensless on the ground from the blow, or a threat to kill.

If the B is backwards , it means that it was done with the woman laying head to the attacker.

I would love to see her blog postings. Does anyone have a link?

Now why would this woman make it up? Attention? Via self mutillation. The only wway we can tell is via a personality profile. I doubt that a campaign worker would fit a self mutillation/attention seeker stereotype.Simply because such work is quite repetative, and requires a patient, methodical individual, hardly in keeping with anyone who would go to self mutilation for attentions sake.

Meanwhile we have physical evidence that what she says is true. It will be good to see the followup on this in terms of the kind of person she is.

Keep in mind that every politically correct official will be trying to say that she did this to herself. Its the easy way out.
