After seeing the photo, I’m wondering too. I’ll just say this, her eye is very black and not very swollen, if swollen at all. I sincerely hope this young woman isn’t vying for attention in this manner.

Actually, a mirror-guided incision is much more difficult than a non-reversed freehand. The former will have hesitation marks which make the lines look as if made up of many slightly off-angle lines and has a jerky look to it. Also, reversed-vision corners are seldom neat or smooth. This wound could have been made with a blade like a BP 12 http://www.bd.com/surgical/pdfs/surgical_blades_handles_and_disposable_scalpels.pdf or a linoleum knife used to score the skin, but not cut it much, hence the lack of scab as pointed out by some astute posters. (On a weird note, the wound looks a lot like a cryo freeze burn, but this would require access to a medical liquid gas cryo system, and then someone would have to rough her up on the other side) Her periorbital bruising seems real and consistent with stated mechanism of injury, as does her eyelid edema, both worse on the side opposite the wound. I would like to see some close-ups of the wound line to further help sort this out, but for now her story is the most plausible. Even if this is a superficial wound, it is a horrible terrorizing of a young girl and an attempt to abrogate our essential freedoms. It is not coincidence that this mutilation was exactly where BO told his supporters to get: in their faces.

How deep you cut and smoothly you can make turns depends on the knife type and blade sharpness. This could easily be a linoleum knife using only the beaked portion of the blade. Doesn't have to carry a full supply of surgical blades:”Hold on my dear whilst I pick the right blade for you”. I see some mighty nice, sharp rippers at Lowe's that could easily be used in surgery.

A simple scratch won't cause what she had; it would be deeper, into but not cutting the dermis, so the skin doesn't shear and the fat doesn't gape through. For her sake, at least the guy had a steady hand. I agree with you that it happened as stated. I think the hoax/real argument diminishes the horror of what's been done by sidetracking interest and attention. That's what the newbies have been sent here to do.

Now in THIS photo I can really see the swelling of her cheek under the B.

If she had her glasses on during the attack, I can see where they would have banged up against her eye area enough to give her the black eyes.

Okay so I’m a newbie. Sort of.

I’m not 100% sure that this is made up but it has so many of the signs of a hoax. She described a big dark-skinned black guy, 6’4” and 200 lbs. That is a very specific description coming from a little white girl who would have been looking up at just about any assailant over 5’10” or so. Why does a big guy like that use a weapon at all on a little white girl. Just saying “gimme the money” while looking down at her from inside her personal space ought to do the trick.

Does anybody remember that crazy broad who drove her kids into a lake a few years ago and said they had been snatched by a scary looking black guy? The whole country was on the lookout for the scary looking black guy until her story unraveled. Black folks certainly thought it was a flaky story from the get go. And they were right.

Malkin summed up most of it.

Besides the backwards aspect (the whole mirror thing), somebody who claims to be a cop on Malkin's website said it was too clean and shallow of a cut, that it looks like it was carefully done rather than violently done. I can't find it now, it's in one of the other threads instead of this one I believe, but there was a post by a FReeper who is a retired detective, who has also seen plenty of stabbings and slashings, and he said that was the first thing he noticed was that it was too neatly done - that somebody who is angry enough and violent enough to do something like that isn't going to be nice about it, and you would see a substantial amount of damage, including down to the bone at some points.

I don't know what to think other than she needs help.
