BTW, a Republican county chairman in FL had his home shot up with a pellet gun a couple of days ago, and Norm Coleman's home was vandalized while his wife and kids were home. I suppose those were just ruses too?

Saw this story on the local news tonight and cant believe something like that happened around here! Yes you have your ghetto crime that you have in every city, but this was in a decent part of town. Definitly makes me wonder how many sirens Id be hearing tonight if that guy carved an “M” into that girls face!

Update VII: I spoke with two executives at the College Republicans on the record about this story. Charlie Smith, the National Chair, and Ethan Eilon, the Executive Director, both say the photo is legitimate and that it came from Ashley Todd, the victim in this case. The attack began at 8:50 pm ET and Ashley called the police at 9:30 PM ET. Initially, she was robbed, ran away after the robbery, and the robber followed her to her car. At that point, he became enraged at the bumper sticker and began beating her and scratched the ‘B’ into her face. Ashley went to the hospital early this morning after initially refusing medical attention last night, and had an MRI and/or a CAT scan. Doctors believe her cheek will heal fully.
Eilon spoke with her personally today about the incident and confirmed the above with me. He first met Ashley in June, when she came to DC for training with the College Republicans. She works for them as a contract employee. She does not work for the McCain campaign. Both Eilon and Smith expressed revulsion over an attack on a young woman just getting involved in politics, but they consider this the act of a lone lunatic.

Has anyone else heard anything about the McCain campaign bus (one that travels around the country distributing campaign materials - not the one used by the candidates) getting a window shot out with a .22 and the bus being shot with paint balls recently?
I haven’t heard anything else about it since the initial report. I think it was reported to have happened in New Mexico.
I am just as skeptical of this story as I am of those which contains nooses and swasticas. There are a lot of gullible FReepers here.

One can only imagine the amount of media coverage if an “artist” were to have a cardboard cutout of Barack or Michelle and one of their daughters, and a vest and rifle for customers to use to have their picture taken shooting at them. But, since Sarah and Piper are the cardboard targets I guess it’s no big deal to them.
I am withholding judgment here. I find it pretty hard to believe she wouldn’t struggle and make it pretty hard to scratch such a nice ‘B’ into her face. And why is it backward? Was her ‘assailant’ looking into a mirror at the time?
Has the McCain-Palin campaign in Pitt verified this young woman is working for them?
Like Hannity today, I will wait for the facts to come out to make any conclusions, though I’m not holding my breath waiting on our media to report anything that will make Obama look bad.
But this was enough to push me over the edge, for me to come back here after 3 years, after hearing about this, after what they’ve done to Sarah Palin and her family, Joe the Plumber and even some incidents that have happened here where I live now. (South Carolina)

If they had doubts, I would think they would have made a vague statement, like “We’ve heard reports and they are disturbing and are waiting for more details from law enforcement.”

Story at Pittsburgh Tribune Review indicates that this was reported to police, and she led them back to the ATM in question. I imagine there will be video from the machine's camera.

This doesn't strike me as of the same public character as what Mr. Lightman reported, with incidents at rallies and the invective from the podiums. As for your other links, the ATM attack seems to be street crime, and it's by no means certain from the reporting that it's political. What's the B scratch supposed to indicate - Barack? Not proven. The vandalism at various GOP sites is standard fare from all sides in campaigns; again, it's not at the same level as what Mr. Lightman documented. I've seen no reliable verification that McCain's bus was shot at; again, this report seems to be Web rumor. In short, I don't believe the general incitement of hate that could lead to violence is nearly equivalent, and until we see evidence that it is, we won't be doing a parallel story. The woman is a legit Republican volunteer, however that fact that she went to her friend's home, then cam back with him to the same ATM later, and from there called police is quite odd. I think she was likely attacked, and that the guy likely hit her because she was for McCain. But I am suspicious of the "B". It is just so over the top. What mugger on a high-traffic street would take the time to do that, and how could he make the "B" so clean while she would no doubt have been struggling to get away?

If someone had a knife to your throat do you think you would move around much? After having been pummeled by a 6’5” 200lb large male? As far as the UPSIDE DOWN B, think like a criminal going after someone on the ground.
Turn the image over. That's exactly how a B would be made by a person who had her head locked down by his left arm around her chin or neck, while he used the point of the knife on her with his right hand. The story linked at Drudge says he hit in the back of the head, knocking her to the ground, and then continued hitting her. She may very well have been stunned and thus no longer struggling.
That’s a real black eye... Lord knows I’ve had enough of them in my life to know. As for the “B”... looks like a wound by keys or other similar object.
