My NIV says “rebellious”.

Now obviously our country was formed as a sort of rebellion, but we know that this verse is talking about rebellion in the sense of disobedience against God and about being evil.

Proverbs 24 rocks.

Sorry gang, there's nothing like the Authorized Version of the scriptures.

Proverbs 24:21-22, "My son, fear thou the LORD and the king: and meddle not with them that are given to change: For their calamity shall rise suddenly; and who knoweth the ruin of them both?"

I think it’s singularly intriguing that the 4th definition, even though it doesn’t apply for certain interpretive reasons, is “to disguise oneself”.

There is a sense in which the ‘change’ in this verse is related to disguising the actual.

The NIV says, "Fear the LORD and the king, my son, and do not join with the rebellious".

I would advise caution in interpreting scripture to fit your desire.

Wow and I have to read Proverbs 24 tonite as this is the 24th day of the month. I was fasting and praying about this same issue and the election yesterday and the Holy Spirit gave me this reading. I think this spells out God’s opinion clearly on this issue. After reading and thinking on this I would not want to be some one who pulls the lever for Fauxbama.

Here it is:

Psalm 50
The Acceptable SacrificeA Psalm of Asaph.
1The mighty one, God the Lord,
speaks and summons the earth
from the rising of the sun to its setting.
2Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty,
God shines forth.

3Our God comes and does not keep silence,
before him is a devouring fire,
and a mighty tempest all around him.
4He calls to the heavens above
and to the earth, that he may judge his people:
5‘Gather to me my faithful ones,
who made a covenant with me by sacrifice!’
6The heavens declare his righteousness,
for God himself is judge.
Selah

7‘Hear, O my people, and I will speak,
O Israel, I will testify against you.
I am God, your God.
8Not for your sacrifices do I rebuke you;
your burnt-offerings are continually before me.
9I will not accept a bull from your house,
or goats from your folds.
10For every wild animal of the forest is mine,
the cattle on a thousand hills.
11I know all the birds of the air,*
and all that moves in the field is mine.

12‘If I were hungry, I would not tell you,
for the world and all that is in it is mine.
13Do I eat the flesh of bulls,
or drink the blood of goats?
14Offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving,*
and pay your vows to the Most High.
15Call on me in the day of trouble;
I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me.’

16But to the wicked God says:
‘What right have you to recite my statutes,
or take my covenant on your lips?
17For you hate discipline,
and you cast my words behind you.
18You make friends with a thief when you see one,
and you keep company with adulterers.

19‘You give your mouth free rein for evil,
and your tongue frames deceit.
20You sit and speak against your kin;
you slander your own mother’s child.
21These things you have done and I have been silent;
you thought that I was one just like yourself.
But now I rebuke you, and lay the charge before you.

22‘Mark this, then, you who forget God,
or I will tear you apart, and there will be no one to deliver.
23Those who bring thanksgiving as their sacrifice honour me;
to those who go the right way*
I will show the salvation of God.’

The Strong's listing on “change” is likewise instructive:

Transliterated Word:
Shanah

Definition:
to repeat, do again, change, alter
(Qal) to change
(Niphal) to be repeated
(Piel) to change, alter
(Hithpael) to disguise oneself

King James Word Usage - Total: 22
change 7, second time 3, again 3, diverse 2, alter 1, disguise 1, doubled 1, pervert 1, preferred 1, repeateth 1, miscellaneous 1

Interestingly it is the same change that is used in Malachi 3:6:

For I [am] the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.

I don’t thing this interpretation of Proverbs is doing violence to the scripture at all. Several translations refer to not making friends with those who are rebellious. Can you say William Ayers?

I believe Barak and the liberals are setting their course against God on all sorts of fronts, obviously. Which group or party is ACTIVELY promoting breaking the 10th Commandment? “Spread the wealth”, “Tax the rich”, etc...

Proverbs 6:16-19 (New American Standard Bible)

16There are six things which the LORD hates,
Yes, seven which are an abomination to Him:
17Haughty eyes, a lying tongue,
And hands that shed innocent blood,
18A heart that devises wicked plans,
Feet that run rapidly to evil,
19A false witness who utters lies,
And one who spreads strife among brothers

Thanks to all for turning to the Holy Scriptures (God’s Word). Please let me add one verse that has stuck in my mind and heart for many years now.
“By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the LORd men depart from evil.” (Proverbs 16:6)
