It’s Embarrassing to Admit I’m a Journalist

Editing Their Way to Oblivion: Journalism Sacrificed For Power and Pensions Support Pajamas Media; Visit Our Advertisers

By Michael S. Malone

The traditional media is playing a very, very dangerous game. With its readers, with the Constitution, and with its own fate.

The sheer bias in the print and television coverage of this election campaign is not just bewildering, but appalling. And over the last few months I’ve found myself slowly moving from shaking my head at the obvious one-sided reporting, to actually shouting at the screen of my television and my laptop computer.

But worst of all, for the last couple weeks, I’ve begun — for the first time in my adult life — to be embarrassed to admit what I do for a living. A few days ago, when asked by a new acquaintance what I did for a living, I replied that I was “a writer”, because I couldn’t bring myself to admit to a stranger that I’m a journalist.

"The traditional media is playing a very, very dangerous game. With its readers, with the Constitution, and with its own fate. "

Who worries about the Constitution anymore? It was rendered meaningless centuries ago. More's the pity.

What the media is doing is digging their own graves. How much is the NYT’s stock down? People know of the bias (polls show that) so they’ll just quit watching or reading.

We’ve quit watching FoxNews...we don’t watch any news on TV anymore. We don’t subscribe to any papers but the WSJ.

Bias wasn't so bad a thing in the days when every city had multiple newspapers representing left and right views.. then came TV, the New Left and anarchist street rabble. . .

Since then increasing numbers of MSM employees have become skid marks on journalism's clean shorts.

Going to switch to them myself so that I can let the LA daily news know how serious I am with my displeasure their choice to endorse obama. But I don’t want to get the wife mad at me too! Do you know if they have coupons in the sunday edition?;-)

Dump the WSJ for IBD. Murdoch bought WSJ six months agao and it has become trash too. I have been a sub for 15 years. Murdoch has turned Fox and WSJ into lib media.

He has two masters - China for his Sky News and his young Chinese wife & Saudis and UAE who have invested in Fox parent corp. They want Obama to win.

Reminds me of this joke:

Kids in class are asked what their fathers do. One kid answers, “My dad is a male prostitute.” The teacher quickly changes the subject and, after the other kids leave, she stops the kid and says, “Your father really isn’t a male prostitute, is he?” “No”, he answers, “He’s
really a journalist, but I was too embarassed to say that!”

the traditional media is trying to commit suicide

He blames the 'traditional' media as if something has changed recently that has made them "biased". He fails to admit that the MSM is reporting the way they've reported for years. He needs to be told that the only thing different is that there's a NEW media bringing a little more light to the arena to expose the bias and it is most unsettling to him. Years prior, no one knew any better.

The old joke slightly modified ...

Please don't tell my mother I'm a lawyer journalist.

She thinks I am a piano player in a whorehouse.

"Platonic objectivity in reporting, we are to spend our careers struggling to approach that ideal "

Too bad this schmuck doesn't understand that Plato's philosophy spawned Hitler. He should read Peikoff's The Ominous Parallels.

Once “The One” is sitting in the Oval Office and Nancy and Dingy have total control of Congress, most of these “media” types are going to be out of a job. There will be need for only one, two at the most, sources of government news releases. Right now, my best bet is that the Old Gray Mare and the WaPoHos have earned that right to represent the government to the masses. Everyone else is toast.

The teacher encouraged her young elementary school students to discuss their father’s jobs, and each, in turn rose to say, “My father’s a doctor,” or, “My father’s a banker,” or, “My father’s a soldier.”

When Little Johnny’s turn came around, however, he rose and said, “My father scrubs toilets in a wh*re house.”

Shocked and scandalized, the teacher called Little Johnny’s mother in to speak with her.

In the meeting, the teacher faced Little Johny’s mother and said, “Little Johnny got up in front of the entire class today and said, ‘My father scrubs toilets in a wh*re house.’ How do you respond to that?”

At this, the mother smiled and replied, “Oh, Little Johnny’s father doesn’t really scrub toilets, and certainly not in any such place; we just tell him that because it’s better than admitting that his father is a journalist.”

This is what I sent to K. Parker---

Sarah Palin has you beat in looks, intelligence and accomplishment. Sarah Palin could do everyday what you do but you wouldn't stand a chance doing what she has done.

Most people never heard of YOU until you started to attack Sarah, so you should thank her for doing more for YOUR career than you have been able to do for yourself!

A start.

Dawn, I truly wish they were digging their own graves, and perhaps they are. But at what cost? Will they help destroy our free society at the same time as their suicide?

Whether or not McCain wins this election, we as Americans, as conservatives have to stay laser-focused on 3 things if we hope to bestow some measure of American values, greatness and freedom to our children.

We must, come 5 November work on the devaluation and/or utter destruction of: 1. The mainstream media; 2. the institutions of "higher learning" and 3. the democrat party.

God Bless this Free Republic.

Hold your head up. If you admit to “being embarrassed” it means you recognize the problem and are likely a journalist of integrity. The people that frustrate me are those that can’t adjust to situations and facts, don’t self examine, and are idealists to a fault.

kudos to you. believe me, I had many a moment where admitting to being an attorney wasn’t my proudest moment.
