Even Franni Franken, the candidate's wife, tried to get into the act. She put her hands in the air while the candidates were talking about gun rights albeit from the audience, where Franken likely couldn't see her as if to tell her husband to calm down.
Franken, at the time, was demanding co-host Eric Eskola cite where he had read Franken supports limiting access to guns.
"Can you cite one?" he demanded. "I support the Second Amendment."
The Coleman campaign immediately after the debate was happy to provide a sheet of citations with Franken's writings and words about guns. It claimed that in an interview on Minnesota Public Radio, Franken said he would like handgun control in urban centers.
"I don't like it when someone is allowed to buy a hundred guns," he said, according to their transcript.
Franken said Friday night that he has the same positions on gun rights that Coleman has.
"I don't think we are any different on this. ... I don't think there is any difference whatsoever between us," he said.
"That is a stunning statement to say that we are the same," Coleman said. The National Rifle Association gave Coleman an A on its candidate questionnaire and Franken an F, Coleman said. "I support the Second Amendment."

The fact that Franken has made it this far does not say much good about the voting public in that state.....
???? (is there something in the water?)
Just another tax dodging pornographer running for a Dem seat...
All crazy Al Franken needs is a little shove & he’ll launch. Any opponent worth their salt should be able to manage that.
Norm got the endorsement from the Star Tribune....
Yep, things are gettin’ real screwey ‘round here.....
Huh ... I didn’t know Franken had enuf brain cells to assemble complete sentences.
Our Republican candidates always make the same mistakes over and over. When a gun grabbing dem says it supports the Second Amendment, the Republican should ask them:
“In what way do you support the Second Amendment”?
They can’t answer that because the dems always think words count for action.
When I support the Second Amendment, I belong to the NRA. I work for Pro gun candidates.
The dem party DOES NOT SUPPORT THE SECOND AMENDMENT SINCE THEY DO NOTHING TO KEEP IT ALIVE.
Pro gun candidates like McCain filed a brief supporting Heller. The majority of dems like obama did not.
Doggonit Stewart, some people don’t like you.
Al Franken’s temper is allays flaring, as you would expect in a certifiable nut case.
Its hard to believe that they same state that can generate the humor and good sense of James Lileks also gave us this bitter loon.
Alan Colmes found out the hard way that Franken is always ready to rumble.
You don’t support the Second Amendment if your statement sounds like this:
“I support the Second Amendment, but...”
That is not supporting the Second Amendment. That is saying it’s okay for people to own varmint-caliber rifles, and maybe 12 gauge shotguns, though politicians would prefer no larger than .410.
I’d love to debate Bloomberg on this.
In this race, Coleman should challenge Franken on what he sees as the purpose of the Second Amendment he claims to support, and then explain that he (Coleman) supports the traditional Minnesota Democrat view:
“Certainly one of the chief guarantees of freedom under any government, no matter how popular and respected, is the right of citizens to keep and bear arms. This is not to say that firearms should not be very carefully used, and that definite safety rules of precaution should not be taught and enforced. But the right of citizens to bear arms is just one more guarantee against arbitrary government, one more safeguard against tyranny which now appears remote in America, but which historically has proved to be always possible”
Senator Hubert H. Humphrey (D) Minn.

In Case anyone missed this - the Red-Star & Sickle endorsed Coleman -

Hubert sure had his moments......
What’s so freaky is them (ST) endorsing McCain. Thought I was gonna swallow my tongue.
Yeah, that’s a real head scratcher.....
I see Franken is still doing is comedy routines.
Was this meant to be a pun? We have lots of loons in Minnesota, it is our state bird. :)
Believe me, there are more of us who love James Lileks than there are Franken fans, and I'm pretty sure that the people who do say they like Franken don't vote.
Franken is a disgusting POS that isn’t worthy of cleaning cages at the Minneapolis Zoo (if they have one)!
