There's been tremdous interest by the public in the box office fate of Oliver Stone's W. for its second weekend in release. Well, it ran out of steam. QED International/Lionsgate's Bush biopic sank 58% to No. 8 with $1.5 million Friday from 2,050 dates for what will probably be a $5.2M weekend. The $30M negative cost film should end up with $23M domestic box office gross by the end of its North American run. That means, with a $25M P&A investment and Lionsgate's distribution fees, the film won't recoup.
I do not feel sorry for Stone. He should go jump off a building or something high to deal with his grief.
The comments to this “article” are really hillarious!
High School Musical III and Saw V are crushing “W” at the box-office. And nobody cares.
Hey, Oliver! Why don’t you just give up, man?!!!
Hollywood fails to realize that the majority of Americans do not share their rabid seething hatred of George Bush.
Well, DUH! “W” is just the newest in a long line of left-wing bombs. I think it’s up to least 9 or 10 now! Sure, “An American Carol” didn’t do that well either, but 0 for 1 is a lot better than 0 for 10!
She seems incapable of taking a bad picture.
No, they gave out tickets from 'W' to people who bought tickets to other movies. Most people don't look at their movie tickets once they buy them except this time many people did and reported it on movie websites. A few people that I know said the same thing happened to them.
I want to see him vanish.
Lawdoc asks “How did an American Carol do?”
It fell off the top 10 and has only made 6 million and has a 25 million dollar budget. It looks like a bust too. I just don’t think people want to see politic movies when we have just lived through two years of straight politics in real life.
For all intensive purposes he has.
No biggie, they are not into it for the money, just to push their leftist agenda.
Did you know Hollywood got a $300 million tax break in the bailout bill?
Though I have not always agreed with him, I appreciate his service to this country in keeping us free of attacks on the homeland. May he and Laura live and be well.
neener, neener....
bwaaaaaahahahahahaah!
“...the film won’t recoup.”
Awwww, so sad.
Maybe O-lover Stoned will petition the gubment for a “bailout” if his screed fails to bring in enough $$ at the box office to cover production costs. Perhaps the multi-million dollar actors will be willin to make a “patriotic sacrifice” of some of their booty to help Stoned out of the red.
People are soooooooo tired of the ‘Bush Derangement Syndrome’ perpetuated by the media and Hollyweird. Yawners.
It is movies like these that make me wonder why any elected member of the GOP sides with Hollywood with regards to extending copyrights or any other copyright enforcement.
Thats ok, this minor loss won’t hurt China much. They’ll just sell some more poison products to fund the next movie attacking our government.
Thats actually stealing money from the other films isn’t it?
I’d be pissed if I had made one of those other movies. I was told that theaters don’t make any of the gate and subsist on the snack bar. Anybody know if that is true?
A liberal friend of mine and I both agree - who the hell wants to watch a movie about George Bush when you finally get a night out and are going to spend 50 bucks or so?
