10.26.08 Houston Chronicle: Most Republicans and some Democrats thought Democrat Nick Lampson would be a one-term wonder following the resignation of former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay. But Lampson has been an effective lawmaker. Still, he faces a strong GOP challenger in Pete Olson and the district is very Republican. If Lampson holds on, it will symbolize the GOP's lost opportunities of 2008.
10.25.08 Fox News: This is Tom DeLay's old seat. DeLay made the seat less Republican when they re-drew District boundaries about four years ago, figuring he could handle any electoral storm. Hurricane Ike turned this election from a drizzle to a storm; the hurricane caused Pete Olson (R) to suspend his campaign, while incumbent Nick Lampson (D) aided the district in a time of need. This conservative district gave the Republicans a strong chance to gain a seat here as many view Lampson as one of the most-vulnerable Democrats this cycle and his 2006 election was an "accident" because of DeLay's retirement in the middle of the last Congress.

10.24.08 ABC Houston 13 News: District 22 challenger Pete Olson has been running a tough campaign against incumbent Democratic Congressman Nick Lampson. The two have been slugging it out in campaign events, a debate, and trading barbs in television ads. But now, Olson is having to respond to a tough ad from the DCCC. If you haven't seen the negative ad, it basically accuses Olson of voter fraud. The allegation stems from Olson's voter history unearthed by the Lone Star Project, a Democratic PAC based in DC. In the documents, it apparently shows that Olson voted in Virginia, and then in Connecticut, and then in Virginia. Virginia law says a person can not knowingly vote in more than one state. Olson lived in Virginia before moving back to Texas to run for Congress. Lampson's folks have been chomping at the bit about this voter story, alleging that Olson has committed a felony. Olson's people have steadfastly denied that he voted in Connecticut, saying he was in Washington, D.C. and then Texas on official Senate business during that day of voting. Instead, Olson's people say someone either used his name or it was a mistake. Now, with the tough ad by the Democrats, Olson is feeling the pressure. He will be talking to the press and refuting the allegations point by point this afternoon.

10.24.08 Lone Star Times: In an extremely rare move, KHOU (CBS) Channel 11 pulled an ad placed by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee because it was false and misleading. <> Sugar Land, TX October 24, 2008 Today KHOU Channel 11 pulled a misleading television ad by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee that falsely smeared Republican Congressional Candidate in Texas 22nd congressional district, Pete Olson. KHOU decided to pull the ad after it was presented with a letter, affidavit by Pete Olson and evidence proving that the DCCC knowingly ignored evidence disproving the false claims. Democrats clearly cannot win in this campaign on the issues, so they revert to their old tactics of lying and fabricating false charges in order to smear their competition, Olson said. In this case, I was the target, and my opponent Nick Lampson said nothing neither repudiation nor criticism.
The truth is on my side on the day in question, I was working for the people of Texas on Capitol Hill, and then flew on official Senate business to Houston, Olson continued. In the face of the truth, stations pulled this false advertising immediately. Clearly, Nick Lampson will allow anyone to say anything, no matter the veracity, as long as it gets him elected, Olson said. Lampson cant win on the issues in this election, and he cant rely on his liberal record to appeal to the districts conservative voters, so he accepts the help of 527 groups like the Lone Star Fund and the DCCC, in hopes that they will damage my character enough so he can stay in office his ultimate goal. Voters are tired of these tactics by long-time politicians and their operatives, Olson said. Its time for a change in Washington the kind that will bring character, leadership and Conservative values back to our Capitol, and return government to the side of the people instead of the side of the party. The voters of the 22nd district deserve better than this. NOTE: Video: heres the ad that is still on the DCCC's website Note the Tom DeLay corruption inference at the end. - FlA
10.24.08 AP: Flap about campaign ads intestifies in Texas race <> Republican congressional candidate Pete Olson is denying claims that he voted fraudulently in Connecticut and has produced records that show he was not there when Democrats say he improperly voted twice in an election. Olson is running for the 22nd District now held by Rep. Nick Lampson and once held by disgraced U.S. House Majority leader Tom DeLay. Olson said ads that tie him to DeLay and to fraudulent voting are desperate acts by a desperate campaign. Lamspon spokesman Trevor Kincaid said the Democrat's campaign stood by the ad and Olson's numerous explanations for his whereabouts during the vote reflect desperation on his part. The contest is one of the most closely watched in the nation because a Democrat is holding a longtime Republican seat.
What of anything this accusation based upon?
I am still waiting to find out what Delay was guilty of.
It was a Soviet style show trial. There was no crime. Ronnie Earle has run away from the trial. But GOP ethics have those who are charged “stepping down” from positions of authority while the investigations proceed. Democrats have no ethics and can hold higher officer and even run the investigations of their own frauds (look at who got to ask questions during the 9-11 national security failures hearings, look at who got to ask the questions during the Fannie Mae investigation).
If Obama is elected, he’s said that he’ll investigation the actions of the Bush administration. It will serve as the 2010 Congressional election talking points “we must keep this culture of corruption from returning to Washington...”
Me too - the worst Ive heard is : “He’s too influential! He blah blah blah doesnt do what we like blah blah...”
Ask Ronnie Earle if he really wanted this to go to trial...
And I’ll bet you he didn’t...Considering it took many different Grand juries to eventually be bullied into indicting Tom DeLay...
All the charges were eventually dropped if I recall correctly...
But then again the goal was to take the most powerful member of Congress out of the game to pave the way for what situation we are in now...
Desperate politicians resort to nasty tactics to try to stay in office, and Nick Lampson is desperate.
Nick Lampson has embraced the most underhanded, libelous, false charges against me - trumped up by a Washington-based Democrat attack group called the Lone Star Fund, from which he has received support and donations.
They hired a firm to investigate me, my wife, and my children to find something to use against me - simply because I have the audacity to challenge Nick Lampson to be your Representative in Congress.
The National Democrats and their operatives have trumped up a voter fraud charge against me, filed a spurious legal complaint based upon selective and incomplete evidence, and then turned that story into a commercial sponsored by the National Democrat Party. In the meantime, they have willfully ignored the truth.
The truth is: on August 12, 2003 - the day they allege I fraudulently voted (in Connecticut, even though I never lived there) - I was working for Senator John Cornyn, on Capitol Hill, before catching a plane to Houston on official Senate business.
We have produced official Senate documents that demonstrate my whereabouts and statements from the Newtown, CT Registrar of Voters who said they could not verify I was present and voted on that day in question. But Nick Lampson and his backers at National Democrat Party continue to throw their mud - they don't care about the truth - and that's how they govern our country.
It's clear what's happening here: Nick Lampson can't win on the issues, so he's attacking me and looking for ways to attack my family.
You can help stop all of this by going to the polls and voting to get rid of Nick Lampson and help elect me as your Representative!
This weekend is the ONLY weekend for you to Early Vote. The choice is clear - more politics as usual, or a change for the truth.
Please feel free to call our office at 281.342.7383 if you need any voting information!
I'd like to see Pete hit harder on this. I'd put out an ad saying "it was probably somebody ACORN signed up using my name!"
I actually ran into Pete Olson last night at "A Taste of Sugar Land", a fundraiser for the church I used to attend. I should have mentioned my ad idea to him.
Prove it demorats.
Me too. He is guilty, if anything, of wanting to do the right thing.
