Pit Bull Turns On McMaverick
New York Post ^ | October 26, 2008 | Carl Campanile and Ginger Adams Otis

Posted on 10/27/2008 12:17:01 AM PDT by CutePuppy

Sarah Palin is the rogue elephant in the GOP war room.

The maverick mom is distancing herself from John McCain and blowing off the advice of senior Republican aides, convinced they're damaging her reputation and ruining the campaign.

Things have gotten so tense between Palin and her traveling staff, an insider said, that she's overruling their advice - which was evident last week when she ignored GOP aides piling into waiting cars at a Colorado event and strolled over to the press corps for an impromptu talk.

MORE: Palin Has Future Even If McCain Loses

In speeches, Palin has contradicted her running mate's positions on issues, telling a Christian news outlet last week that she would support a constitutional amendment against same-sex marriage, which McCain opposes.

Though McCain once said he considered Obama's relationship with the Rev. Jeremiah Wright to be an old issue, this month Palin said, "I don't know why that association isn't discussed more."

Palin also publicly stated that she thought it was a mistake for the campaign to give up on Michigan, and that she thought voters were annoyed by robocalls - which McCain uses extensively.

The last straw for the vice-presidential candidate was the raft of criticism from the $150,000 worth of high-end clothes the Republican National Committee bought her, a campaign source said.

Palin showed how much that gaffe got under her skin yesterday at a rally in Sioux City, Iowa, telling the crowd she'd stepped off the plane and donned a warm, cream-colored jacket.

"And it's my own jacket," she said.

A McCain insider told The Post that relations between Palin and some of the campaign aides with her have soured. "She's lost faith with the staff."

I never had any faith in McMaverick's staff. If he wins, it will be only because of his choice of Sarah Palin and due to her aggressive (pitbull) campaign style. She has more campaign sense, let alone plain class, than most of his advisors... unless this is simply a "good cop / bad cop" thang. "Campaign official sniped" ?

i think it is more good cop/bad cop. she would not have joined his ticket, if they were not at least on the same page on most important issues. she is too smart for that. i dont ever trust the msms “anonymous sources” either. this story works for the campaign. i mean it shows she is really maverick, and it keeps the base stoked and he can keep appealing to the moderates. annoying to read though!

Go, Sarah!

My advice to Sarah is to continue to ignore "the staff". This is apparently the same "staff" which refuses to show America, via a massive TV ad buy, that the next Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces could be the Number One most liberal member of the Senate, a shiny little turd of a "community organizer" named Barack Hussein Obama.

Sarah, definitely do distance yourself....

if truth be known every candidate(s) sits down with his inner circle of advisors from time to time to develop tactics and map out a short-term and long-term strategy for the campaign. They all have strong opinions and they digest all the info before them; they all have ideas on how to proceed but it comes down to the approach the candidate(s)want to take and the emphasis they want to place on a topic. Back to Sarah. She may disagree with certain approaches and what to emphasize but as the candidate she has to remain loyal to McCain and not stray off the reservation, which she hasn’t. Whether to leave Michigan is an ‘inside baseball’ question, whether to talk about Wright is a basic disagreement with McCain and not the staff. Whether to talk to the press in an impromptu fashion is her choice. To accuse her of going ‘rogue’ because of this is pretty extreme. Actually Sarah has been on message for the entire campaign. Who has been the ‘rogue’ has been Joe Biden. This is a futile attempt at the divide and conquer strategy.

While I’d be willing to accept that there may be friction with staffers (there always is), I don’t think there is any real friction between the candidates.

I am certain that this crap is published with only one intention: to discourage and depress turnout. These people who write this BS do not have our interests at heart.

I agree. Lame and stupid. From the very first day of her selection as McCain's running mate Palin drew a distinction between her support of ANWAR drilling and McCain's opposition.

Suddenly now she stakes out her own turf? Ridiculous! The MSM is still talking trying to make a scandal out of $150,000 for a wardrobe.

The MSM doesn't understand why Palin isn't dead yet -- can't get their wits around the fact that this woman is fantastically popular.

Forget this crap from the same people who want you to elect a socialist for president.

I hesitated before posting this article, but figured it would be in the "news" tomorrow anyway, especially because the described facts (not from "confidential sources") and the [petty, thin-skinned, wishy-washy] character of McCain's campaign and his staff / advisers fit.

Also, the article doesn't really seem like the typical "divide and conquer" or "depress the turnout" (if simply because it would be very ineffective at this), because it really emphasized the strengths that Sarah brought to the campaign, as well as petty nature and inane decisions of some on McCain's staff, which may not be serving his campaign well, as qualified by this quote by someone who obviously has made a stupid mistake of different kind of "wardrobe malfunction":

But the novice vice-presidential candidate is partly to blame, the campaign official sniped. "She's an adult. She didn't ask questions about where the clothes came from?" the source said.

Now, is that really something that just chosen VP candidate had to even think about asking? How petty does "the source" have to be, and how does any of that help McCain's campaign? These are the people who, wittingly or unwittingly, sabotage the campaign and the candidates, not Sarah's actions described in the article.

Do you really think that stories of infighting and division are in any way helpful? You and I know that Sarah has given us something to be excited about but making out that Mac is not listening to her will turn off some holdouts and encourage the third party, lets all go into Babylonian exile, types to go ahead with their suicidal quest. The squishy middle will see this as instability within the ticket and our whole “experienced stable leadership” argument goes away.

It’s not sarcasm either. My point is that the stories are basically crap. WE know the stories are crap, but the outside world does not. We give these stories credibility, and thet doesn’t help out in the real world.

I am NOT saying that there isn’t healthy disagreement inside the campaign, or that I think that such disagreement is a bad thing. Quite the contrary, it’s normal and healthy,

But exaggerating its importance with a negative spin is not something we ought to be buying into.

Seriously, the McCain campaign shouldn’t be bitching about the lady that’s doing the majority of the work to get them elected.  They should shut the f up and realize that she resonates w/ real people, and not the so-called elites they’ve surrounded themselves with.

Absolutely right.

Remember, my wife was the former Democrat ( Southern, Conservative, mind you, not MoonBat. Think Orson Scott Card. ) who stood up, in the middle of McCain’s first introduction of Sarah, the week before the acceptance speech, and loudly declared

“I want to vote for that woman!”

And none of the dirt they’ve tried to throw has done anything besides making Miss Emily dig her heels in.

If anything salvages McCain’s otherwise lame campaign, it will be Joe the Plumber…
...and Sarah.

I used to work with and date a beautiful woman, who's line was to use here very smart brain, curvasious body and her big brown eyes to get ahead (pun intended). Shortly after we broke up, driving down the freeway, at about 7 pm, here she was riding "shot gun" in my Vice President's car, off to an evening of 'no good" or maybe it was "very good evening". She later became President of a bank in Denver. Bless her heart. The guy between me and the VP was an airline pilot. We were standing in line at a bank party, when he leaned over to her and in more than a "stage whisper' said: "Stick with baby and you will be far**ing through silk."

Heaven knows how Sarah plays these same cards. Love it.

How about them dimples, so to speak! I love her feisty attitude and t-shirt.

A loving mother of five very well fed kids. Love it.

I want one of these for my car's bumper!

I missed her in Sturgis, SD, earlier this summer. Dang! I wonder if the "First (what't the other side of Dude) acutally drives that "Road Machine", as the "First Dude" rides a "Snow Machine" versus a "Snowmobile". Go figure. She could ride my Harley any time she wanted, if you get my drift.

Now here's a "slick guy as a kid"!

Now here's a "slick guy as a big kid"!

Now this has to be the totally worst picture of the prospective world leader that I have ever seek. Funny to friends, scary to the smart ones.

John S McCain is one lucky and hopefully our "First Dude" and our next POTUS.

That's little old me, howling at the moon.

Yeah, Murdoch owns it. I’m inclined to believe it, and think that McCain admires her. I don’t think she would do anything that he asked her not to do. I know she respects him more than that. And we know that she herself demands loyalty...so, she would not be disloyal to McCain.

Absolutely! Needs to be talked about. But, not by McCain and Palin. This is the job of the media. The media needs to talk about it, and report on it. It isn’t the job of McCain to do it. Sorry, but I agree with McCain on this one. It is the media who is letting the public down, and blaming McCain! The media doesn’t want to do their job of investigating, and reporting...even the college kids of “palestra” have done more investigating than all the other media combined!

The media is after ratings and stardom, so the job is left undone. This is their jurisdiction...not the candidates!

She’s reaching back across the aisle to her own party.

Imagine, in 2012: Palin Democrats.

She has reclaimed the GOP conservatives and many independent conservatives. If she comes back strong in 2012 (either as VP or full-term governor) and runs for the presidency, she could head the ticket and give those conservative Democrats [and yes, there are many Democrats who are conservative] a new home, just as Reagan did.
