Australian researchers have identified a significant link between a gene involved in testosterone action and male-to-female transsexualism.
DNA analysis from 112 male-to-female transsexual volunteers showed they were more likely to have a longer version of the androgen receptor gene.
The genetic difference may cause weaker testosterone signals, the team reported in Biological Psychiatry.
However, other genes are also likely to play a part, they stressed.
Increasingly, biological factors are being implicated in gender identity.

One study has shown that certain brain structures in male-to-female transsexual people are more "female like".
In the latest study, researchers looked for potential differences in three genes known to be involved in sex development - coding for the androgen receptor, the oestrogen receptor and an enzyme which converts testosterone to oestrogen.
Comparison of the DNA from the male to female transsexual participants with 258 controls showed a significant link with a long version of the androgen receptor gene and transsexualism.

The first thought that popped into my mind was—is this junk science or legitimate science? Were the scientists trying to do some legitimate research or validate an opinion? If legitimate science I say go for it. The problem is that too much junk science is out there. I know a few trannies and they swear that they have always felt they should have been born the opposite gender. Now I think one should not mistake transsexuals for homosexuals even though they usually graze together. Homosexuals are content with their given gender, they’re just sexually attracted to the same. It does get a little weird though when you have a bunch of gay guys that adore going around in drag and acting like a bunch of queens-—so I could see where one could say transsexual, homosexuals what the hecks the difference?
Some one made the comment about genetic finagling. I have said for awhile that if some hard core scientific evidence comes to the fore concerning sexuality (is there a gay gene?) gays better get on the pro-life bus pretty quick because the abortion bus will be all ready to roll all over you.

Damage may be done before birth. Fundamental differences between male and Femlae Brains occur in utero due to hormonal influences.
It’s probably worth trying but may only have partial success and with those who are perhaps less Femm than others.
Many people who are hetero can be "groomed" to be homosexual on occasion. People who are abused when young often can "go either way." See Obama, Barack.
So there is a genetic connection, a gene not working as designed. I say this in the most well meaning way, but it will be interesting to see how the transgendered community runs with it, I wonder how many will want to seek a ‘cure’ for this genetic failure. I.e., will there be backlash for any who seek a remedy for the weakened testosterone signals? And will the gay community see this as a positive or negative, because we already see a backlash among those who wish to change orientation to straight.
There are dumbasses of every color. But somehow we are told that letting your drawers droop in public is a cultural fashion trend that must be respected.

If genes determined all our behavior, we would be wild animals. Doesn’t anyone believe in a conscience any more? That alone is what sets us apart from beasts. Why do the alternative lifestyle crowd keep repeating these sick lies?
This sounds exactly like those studies that were done years ago (and sometimes still are) trying to argue that homosexuality was genetic.
First of all, why is this always phrased as either “genetic” or “choice”? It could be psychological.
I recently read an article (in NARTH’s magazine) that stated that often transgendered people are not satisfied even after sex-change operations because ulimately the issue is psychological, not biological.
You have to ask why these various studies on sexuality are always focused exclusively on biological factors and not psychological factors. To some degree, they are “fishing expeditions,” trying to find a specific result.
This study would need to be replicated with a larger group of people a number of times to be authentic. And while this genetic factor may be contributing, it doesn’t make it determinative.
