NY Daily News Hamill Implies Democrats Defecting To McCain Are Racist

It is no surprise the media is going full throttle on the racism issue in this final week of the campaign. There seems to be concern among liberals that usual democratic voters will pull the lever for John McCain. NY Daily News writer Denis Hamill wrote an article today illustrating his concern that his white liberal contemporaries were defecting to McCain. Hamill emphasizes in each example that these Democrats are voting McCain because of Obama's race. (my emphasis added):

But we're nervous. We're Jewish and I spoke to my parents down in Florida today. They're voting for McCain."

"Because he's white," said the wife. "Same with my parents."

"They just won't vote for a black man," the guy said. "And they're Democrats! Never voted Republican before!"

If it were an isolated incident, I wouldn't mind.

But the woman at my table added that the only one of her three sons who was a registered Democrat was voting for McCain because he was white.

And I've been hearing stuff like that for the past few months. What I hear banging around Queens is not, of course, a scientific survey. It's anecdotal. But after a while you feel a disturbing vibe.

"Most of the guys at my law firm are voting for McCain," said a lawyer I know. "Not for any specific issue. Because he's white. No, make that because he's not black. It's scary because these are educated people."

He said his own wife was voting for McCain for the same reason. And she's a teacher.

Other educated white people have told me that "it's too soon" for a black man to be president. Or, "I thought it would happen in my kids' lifetimes, not mine."

“Use your brain, vote for MCCain” ......... Maybe some Libs are actually doing that? I’ve learned over the years that a candidate can have all kinds of “plans” and promise you everything. When it comes time to deliver, you’ll find that there is nothing there. If you really want change, give Congress an enema. Term limits for Congressmen, 3 for HOR, and 2 for the Senate. Great idea, but who in Congress will ever vote for it? Rhet/

Why would anyone vote for Obama? He’s an unknown, he’s inexperienced, what we know of his background indicates that he’s a radical leftist. I had no intention of voting for Hillary, and Obama is Hillary times a hundred. The only reason to vote FOR him is his race!

Denis Hamill

I won't be protest-marching past Madison Square Garden today. But my heart is with the majority of those peaceful protesters who oppose the Bush administration's terrible handling of the war in Iraq.

When I was a young man in Brooklyn in the late 1960s and early '70s, draft age, I was an anti-war protester.

lol!

you’re only the 3rd person in 18 months to comment.

the first comment was unintelligible, delivered by mail.

the second comment thought it was a joke—which it can be, depending upon one’s interpretation.

and yours is a good one too. reminds me of lbj.

I am sooo tired of this race card thing.

IT AIN’T WORKING. I HAVE NO GUILT for not voting for
a half-whitey, dumbass, Marxist, nobody that can’t hold a candle to Mac’s
qualifications.

Mac flies jets. Zero rides a bike. Who’s the dumber one?

This is Denis Hamill who is Pete Hamill’s brother. Same rotten tree, though.

Blah blah blah...racist...yada...racist...yada.

The word racist has completely lost any meaning with me. Call me a racist, and I will roll my eyes and say “whatever”.

The Obama campaign and the media (I repeat myself) have completely taken the sting out of that word.

Amazing that this one lib knows so many Democrats that would not vote for a black man. In my circle of Conservative friends, I don't know any who feel that way. Bunch of racists Liberals.

Of course, in reality, this guy is probably lying through his teeth. All those people he mentioned are probably voting against Obama because of Obama’s racism and the Jews he mentioned are probably voting against Obama because of Obama’s antisemitism.

It's actually encouraging that educated people are using their brains. They must not be slip and fall lawyers.

It isn’t. Here is an incident that happened today and which I posted around noon on another thread:

“I just finished speaking with someone here in rural SW WI, which is full of Progressives. My informant has daily contact with the liberal loons and I have not brought up the election at all, as I had no idea what her politics were. Today, she said that most of the old hippies and yuppie Progressives were either voting Nader, staying home, or voting McCain. I don’t like to mix politics and business, so I didn’t question her further, though I wanted to. The only other clue she offered was that she sees racism in zerO’s supporters and she figures that if they can be racist, so can she. This an extremely *sensitive*, single woman, just under 50, in business for herself in a competitive field. I was mildly surprised that she would even mention race, as I would have thought she could have been guilt tripped.”

I have to add that, way back when Wright first made headlines, I asked a fairly sane Democrat what the same crowd (old hippies/yuppie Progressives) was saying about the revelation. She replied:”He’s screwed.”

FWIW.

Pete’s a lefty, but not a bad guy, on the whole. And he wouldn’t make up characters just to fill a column, as his sozzled brother did.

Before long, any subject who dares to look directly at Lord Obama will be deemed a racist and summarily executed.

I have not heard anyone say anything like this. It sounds like made-up hype to me.

Actually people in NYC area are very aware of where people "came from". I moved there from Ohio in '75. I went to the local store often and got to know the couple that owned it. They asked where my "people" were from. I said "Ohio". They said 'But where before that?" I said "America". I had never been asked such questions before so had no idea what it was they were looking for. This Jewish couple finally got that some of my ancestors were German. They were certain that I hated them.

I have no idea if it's changed but I was sure in shock.

Surprised? Hell, it's like night following day. The only surprise is that they haven't been more blatant until now.
