Representative Dennis J. Kucinich (D-OH) has proposed H.R. 808, the Department of Peace and Non-Violence Act. The bill would establish a Department of Peace and Non-Violence...headed by a Secretary of Peace and Nonviolence appointed by the President with the advice and consent of the Senate.
H.R. 808 also would establish within the Department an Intergovernmental Advisory Council on Peace and Non-violence [to] provide assistance and make recommendations to the Secretary and the President concerning intergovernmental policies relating to peace and non-violent conflict resolution; a Federal Interagency Committee on Peace and Non-violence; [and] Peace Day.
While this may sound like a joke, the bill currently has 70 co-sponsors. And it appears that some liberal Members of Congress eagerly anticipate establishing such a Cabinet-level department. Representative Barney Frank (D-MA) recently told a local newspaper that the Democratic Majority in the next Congress may slash the budget for the Department of Defense by up to 25%, thereby eviscerating the American military and leaving the Nation weak and defenseless.

Right ?
(sound of crickets chirping in background)
God help us all.
babylon 5!
I know Kucinich has pushed this idea for a while.
This is straight out of Orwell. I wonder how will they help people agree with the mandates of the ‘Department of Peace’? Perhaps they plan on holding mandatory classes and camps.
So what is the State Department supposed to do then?
Wake up, America.
Kucinich is a kook.
I was informed the Department of Peace INCLUDES A “PEACE ACADEMY”. This would be akin to the Air Force Academy and Naval Academy. The students would be hand-picked and their tuitions payed by taxpayer dollars. And they would learn about ... being passive. Those on the left are intent on *destroying* this country.
The Kook’s at it again...
I can imagine Barack naming his new Secretary of NonViolence and Peace, Sec. Moon Beam Wavy Gravy.
“And they would learn about ... being passive.”
Then a group of toughs from the local high school would go their and dump their books and steal their lunch money!
It's Kucinch. He's a joke, his bills are jokes also.
Just like the 30+ bills of impeachment he has submitted to impeach Bush.
Led by the Sec of Love, Oprah Winfrey.
It's all so clear to me now.
While small planes are flying over cities dispersing poisonous agents, then crashing themselves into buildings, and in a concerted effort, sleeper cells from our open Southern borders begin detonating bombs, our Department of Peace will sing “Kumbaya”. Their official slogan will be “Can’t we all just get along?” And Obama will tell us to “wait it out until their aggression has spent itself.”
SUPPRESSION!! What about all the Obamanoids who can't read?
It’s like a bad dream..how did we get here. I’d kill for Hillary to be the canidate today. And for all those who are going to write now saying it would be the same..uh..NO, it wouldn’t have.
The 60’s rehashed. These people are the children, obviously genetically damaged from their parents LSD use, of “Free Speech Corner” at Berkley. All is peace and love, and you can speak if you say what we want you to say. I’m expecting the second coming of Timothy Leary any day now, most likely election day. This bunch is giving me an LSD flashback.
DEPARTMENT OF SHEEPLE
Your tax dollars at work.
Wow, I was thinking the same thing.. Bab5 for sure.
Nope, it’s not satire. And it’s not a new development, it was introduced last year and got as far as being referred to the subcommittees on Government Management and the subsomittee on Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary Education.

And while it’s easy enough to dismiss Kucinich as a kook, the bill has 70 co-sponsors.
Yes, I know. Sort of scary, isn't it?
