Based on a $14.5 Trillion Gross Domestic Product, if the U.S. shut down on November 4th as Barack Hussein Obama suggests, it will cost over $55 Billion in Gross Domestic Product.

If everyone took the day off, and America closed down for one day, it would be 1/260th of a year. One workday out of the entire year. Simple arithmetic. No need for you to complicate it unless you are trying to defend the Socialist Obama.

But much of the value of consumption, production and other aspects of the economy would be made up in other days. All other things constant, much of the economic activity would even out over the year.

As another way to put it, by your logic, adding Sunday to the workweek would increase our GDP by approximately $2.8 billion or so, which is not the case

Again, I never said anything about making it up. It is one day, with the assumption of everything closing down. Of course it isn’t logical, nor is Obama’s suggestion. The fact is that it COULD cost AS MUCH as that.

Seems like Obama’s egging on of his minion thuggery—’get in your neighbors faces’—is evidence enough why we shouldn’t have to put up with a national election holiday that would make it especially easy for them to harrass and intimidate.

The fact is that it COULD cost AS MUCH as that.

But no facts support that it would. Every day worth of economic activity is not an isolated bubble. Even if every single economic activity were to cease on one day, it would not cost us $55 million to GDP as that activity, investment, consumption, government spending, etc. that would normally occur on that day would simply occur on other days. $55 million would not be lost.

There are some arguments that could be made against an election holiday (personally I like the idea of moving election day to a weekend) but your idea that it would cost $55 million is simply absurd.

Are you assuming that nobody would work that day? That, of course, wouldn’t happen.

I said IF everyone stayed home that day. Of course it won’t happen. It is hypothetical, just like Obama getting everyone to take the day off.

Obama should just declare 140 days of games and slaughter about 5000 unborn babies to celebrate.

Why not just make the first weekend of November voting days. Get rid of absentee ballots, unless your in the military, and make sure that people who want to vote show up to a voting center, show ID, and have their one vote actually count. I've never understood the first Tuesday thing.

In Canada it's national law that all business’ allow for up to 3 hours time off on an election day.
