Shays among Republicans upset with McCain campaign

HARTFORD, Conn. - Locked in a tough re-election campaign in a district that overwhelmingly supports Barack Obama, Connecticut Rep. Christopher Shays has joined some fellow Republicans in publicly voicing frustration with John McCain's presidential campaign.

Shays told The Associated Press on Wednesday that the Republican nominee's campaign has gone too negative against Obama, and has muted his message of being an independent thinker with the best ideas and experience needed to solve the nation's problems.

With the tone of the campaign and Obama's lead in the polls, McCain will have a difficult time winning the presidency, Shays said, although he believes it's still possible.

"He's taken the thing that is most valuable, his (maverick) brand, and he's not staying true to it," Shays said. "I admire John McCain more than you can imagine. He would make a great president.

Shut up Shays! McCain’s internal polling is way up after he decided that he finally wanted to fight and unleashed Sarah Barracuda.

Quote: “He has a point though. McCain is running a campaign that didn’t offer much more then “Vote for me cuz the other guy sucks.” I really wish he had done his homework on the financial side and offered a consevative yet pro-business vision. I wish he had given people a vision to follow. Obama sold a lot of people on some empty “hops” and “change” crap that has ni substance.”

While I agree that his response to the financial crisis was slow, the MSM would never have covered it or given any plan voiced by McCain fair treatment. Instead, the MSM would demagogue any plan McCain came up with and do what they always do.

What McCain should have done, and I still can’t for the life of me figure out why he did not do this, was to make Fannie and Freddie the villians and tie them to the democrats. The democrats sure did not hesitate to make Bush the villian and tied McCain to Bush. He should have pointed to his attempt to fix Fannie and Freddie and note that his attempts were shot down by Obama.

Isn’t Shays the guy who held a town hall meeting during the gubmint shutdown back in ‘95, Paul Newman pounding on the door to be let in, though he’d shown up way late for the thing??

Reminder: Shays voted against Clinton’s articles of impeachment.

He turned the whole thing into the death scene from La traviata.

Don’t forget that we are also retaining (especially in New Jersey) government employees, with everyone’s mentally challenged brother/cousin seemingly employed by the state, county, or township.

Too negative? About the campaign whose chief ruled out of bounds mention of the single most effective legitimate campaign issue — Obama’s 20 year connection with a racist Black Liberation Theology church and pastor? Give me a break.

"Time to cowboy up Mr Shays"

Christopher Shays is my Congressman and I can tell you the only Cowboy Up'n he's going to be doing is the Brokeback Mountain kind!

It's a shame he's the only "Republican" in Congress from CT, MA, RI, VT, NH, ME and as much of a RINO as he is it looks like he's probably going to lose. Hard to believe in all 6 States not a single Republican. Well, we deserve what we get.

Just remember, a RINO like him is the best your going to be able to get for a Republican that can be elected in CT. As lib as he is, he’s still to the right of Lieberman on most issues. Of course, it looks like Leiberman is giving more support to McCain than Shays is.

Chris Shays, temporarily standing in as the leading loyalist Maverick... needs to have his butt kicked over the line into deep Democrat territory on November 5th, 2008. It should have happened years ago.

Shays is merely another example of people who should have changed parties years ago, and continue to slam the policies of our side at will.

The Democrats elect conservatives in certain districts. They know politics is about addition, and then they can elect Pelosi as speaker.

Whats wrong with a few wet rinos, when they help get conservatives in leadership in the house of representatives?

Because he didn't want to offend his good friend and colleague, the Honorable Senator Dodd.

Shows how well the McCain campaign is handling this campaign when Shays complains! If Shays was happy, the rest of us would be extremely disgusted.
