North Carolina Senate Candidates Battle Over 'Godless' Ad (Knock out punch to Hagan)

North Carolina Sen. Elizabeth Dole's campaign is refusing to take down an ad that accuses her Democratic rival, Kay Hagan, of accepting money from "godless Americans," after Hagan demanded that the Republican incumbent "cease and desist."

The two campaigns are in a nasty dispute over the commercial, which began running statewide in North Carolina Tuesday.

Hagan sent Dole a letter Wednesday demanding she take down the ad, and held a press conference in the morning at which, according to prepared remarks, she called it an attack on her "Christian faith."

The ad accuses Hagan of attending a "secret fundraiser" hosted by the Godless Americans PAC last month.

"Godless Americans and Kay Hagan. She hid from cameras. Took godless money," the narrator says. "What did Kay Hagan promise in return?"

The ad then plays a clip of a female voice saying, "There is no God."

Hagan complained Wednesday that the final clip is not her voice.

"This entire ad was a deliberate attempt to mislead, and it speaks volumes about Ms. Dole's character and conviction and how she feels about how she's doing in the polls right now," Hagan spokesman Colleen Flanagan told FOXNews.com.

Yeah, that should be the ballgame in that race. If the GOP holds on to Dole’s seat that would be significant. I think the GOP retains Wicker’s in Mississippi.

The curious Senate race is Landrieu-Kennedy in Louisiana. I haven’t seen any recent polling, but I do recall a close margin a week ago. Plus Gov. Jindal is appearing in an ad for Kennedy. It definitely would be nice to pick up a Senate seat somewhere next Tuesday.

If you see the ad, it has O’Reily chatting with some of the people from Godless America, and it is not pretty.

Hagin is a part of the Raleigh Mafia, the think they can get away with anything.

I visited my mother this afternoon...help her with some yard work. She is in her eighties. Between the bridge clubs, the garden clubs, etc..is her social network. Well, the phone has been ringing off the hook this afternoon. The buzz.... this ad. Remember back in the fifties, the three fastest things on earth...the telegraph, the telephone, and telewoman.

I’m here in Louisiana, and I have no idea if Kennedy is going to beat Landrieu. A few polls have had it close, but others have had her out ahead by a wide margin. Unfortunately, we have too many local Republicans who have endorsed her because she was good during Hurricane recovery...sigh.

When the Final Judgement is made, I would pay a King’s ransom to see these people explain themselves before Christ.

The hemming and hawing
The pleading
The quibbling
The begging for leniency
The finger pointing
Trying to blame God
Etc.,

You have to admit, the irony would be sweet.

More like a knockout punch to Dole. Resorting to crude religious bigotry reeks of desperation.

Hagan 47.1% Dole 42.6%
Yep -- one less to defend, as the GOP retrenches to ones that might still be winnable.
