Obama’s Infomercial: In My Dreams
http://foxforum.blogs.foxnews.com ^ | OCT 29,2008 | foxnews.com

Posted on 10/29/2008 6:44:12 PM PDT by Maelstorm

The cascade of criticism from the mainstream media, directed at Barack Obama, continues unabated. Reporters are outraged that Obama first committed to taking public funding for the general election, and then changed his mind. And they are further upset that he is outspending John McCain by ratios of four to one, or more.

“Outrageous!” thunders The Washington Post editorial page. “A scandal waiting to happen.”

The latest wretched excess from the Obama campaign, of course, is the Illinois Democrats’ decision to buy a “roadblock” of prime time TV for a speech tonight. “Gross overkill,” fumed The New York Times in an editorial this morning. “It was wrong when Richard Nixon trampled the spirit of campaign laws during the 1972 presidential election and it’s just as wrong, now, as Barack Obama wields his huge checkbook in 2008.”

Indeed, sniping from reporters, commentators, and other thought-leaders has been so profound that many observers smell a backlash against the Obama juggernaut. When Republicans say, “Don’t let Obama buy the election! Don’t let the fat cats have their way!” the chattering class cheered, resolving to share their anti-Obama feelings with the voters.

Then I woke up.

Campbell Brown at CNN actually did come out pretty hard against Obama on the campaign financing today.

CNN has to do one piece a month critical of Obama and run it one time just so they can appear to be fair.

I agree, add in 70% of people polled thought the media was in the tank for Obama, this tape makes an excellent club, but it would make an even better ad..

MSNBC : Ølberman has Tank Matthews on right after the Pity Party Infomercial,

Matthews is trying to convice us Øbama is a Great Father,
Tank, convince us a Great Father would take his young children to see Reverand Wright year after year, than you may sway a vote, but probably not from Øprah.

I wonder who it would sway? His sheeple must have eaten it up, but anyone else?

I couldn't stomach him blather on, infomercial-style. I didn't watch. When I first heard about it, I thought it was a joke, especially considering SNL's spoof of an Obama half hour of TV paid time.

I wonder, if he has such a surplus of funding (thanks, Oprah) and he thinks he's got a huge lead in the polls, why the 11th hour infomercial? It smacks of desperation.

Why not just spread that wealth around a little, give back money to the givers? (okay, I couldn't really say that without laughing...)

Obama has jumped the shark. I was having dinner at a tex-mex joint here in Texas and they had their TVs on different channels. Shortly after Barack came on one of the channels, they quickly switched all 3 to a NBA game. Granted, this is Houston, but still. People are tired of this election. And Barack is the poster child for the endless election. Not to mention that it’s clear that he is going to raise taxes and increase handouts.

As for the Dear Leader vibe...absolutely. Does America want to deal with this preening egomaniac for the next 4 years? I’m thinking not. The Obama campaign’s strategy has been flawed from the beginning. He’s failed to connect with Middle America.

Yes, Middle America is comfortable with the idea of a black president. That’s not the concern. What they are not comfortable with is someone who they know so little about who is so clearly left wing. What is he hiding? Sadly, it took Joe the Plumber’s question and Barack’s unscripted answer to expose him.

The Obama campaign dismissed Middle America. It thought it could count on a combination of small constituencies to carry it to victory (cities, unions, blacks, professors, students, and affluent cultural liberals). Obama is losing members of Kerry’s voting bloc in ‘04, namely among rural and suburban Democrats, older voters, and women.

What America has seen of Obama is an egomaniac who’s sometimes a jerk, especially to women, and someone who is very reluctant to share much information on his life, outside of his two autobiographies (anyone who writes two autobiographies before age 45 has issues, even if they were paid well).

America has had Obama shoved down their throats by the media daily for almost two years. America wanted to know what the catch is. Well, it’s “spread our wealth.” ROFL. America is going to reject that. To top it off, the race card has been played. People don’t like that kind of politics here in 2008.

This is a fundamental belief election. Do you believe America is a country in which you can pursue your dreams and reap the rewards, or is it a place which has been more mean than compassionate, more good than bad in the world, and more just than not and we should be forced to share our hard earned pie with others who haven’t worked for theirs?

This is what made Reagan an electoral juggernaut. He clarified the difference between the conservative economic program, which embodied time honored American values of hard work, thrift, and self-reliance and the Democrat program of ‘spreading the wealth’, a program which leads to dependency and “malaise.”

McCain and Palin, thanks to Joe the Plumber’s gift, have been able to make the Reagan argument. And there is no winning rejoinder from the Democrat. Americans still believe this country’s best days are ahead. We still believe that this country is not part of the world’s problems, but rather part of the solution. We still believe in that shining city on a hill. By the way, Barack, that city isn’t Washington DC.

ABC.

But CNN is going live with Clinton and Obama any minute now at the rally in Kissemee.

CNN played a snip of Bill calling Obama camp a fairytale back when Hillary was still running.

We are (met Bill twice this past year up close and personal) watching to see how Bill interacts with Obama.

My guess it will be a bit chilly on that stage.

“CNN and Anderson (loves Obama)360

It was the typical liberal playbook.

Take a family that looks like they’re not doing too bad and turn their lives into a sob story.
Doesn’t hurt that they’re white folks.
Play sappy sad music in the background - while I listened to hubby estimate the value of the nice vehicle they’re driving around.

Cut to another lady and describe how she gets up “before dawn” every day (more sappy music).
And hubby says to me “who the hell doesn’t get up before dawn everyday this time of the year?”

I personally thought it was another Berlin moment - but we’ll see.

The music was killer.

I suppose Obamabots got hypnotized into feeling really sad for these people - but I was busy changing diapers, and my husband did fall into a bit of a trance and then started snoring.

It was very presumptuous.
At the end, he was live from a rally in Fl. and basically he was acting like it had been won already.

I avoided this sideshow like the plague.

Preliminary Ratings (Prime-Time Metered Market)from last night.

This infomercial got a 17.8 rating/29 share

Found this at: THE PROGRAMMING INSIDER

-Yesterday’s Winners:
The World Series, Game 5: Philadelphia vs. Tampa Bay (Fox), Criminal Minds (CBS), CSI: NY (CBS)

-Yesterday’s Losers:
Pushing Daisies (ABC), Private Practice (ABC), Stylista (CW), Dirty Sexy Money (ABC), Lipstick Jungle (NBC)

----------

-Ratings Breakdown:
Led by the fifth (and final) game of The World Series (Philadelphia vs. Tampa Bay), Fox dominated Wednesday with a 3.0 overnight rating point advantage over second-place CBS. Third was NBC, followed by ABC and the CW.

Three networks -- CBS, NBC and Fox -- opened the evening with a half-hour paid political message from Presidential candidate Barack Obama, which fared as follows in the overnights:

8:00 p.m. - Barack Obama Political Message
NBC: 6.7/11 (#1)
CBS: 6.1/10 (#2)
Fox: 5.0/ 8 (#3)

In total, that came to an impressive 17.8 rating/29 share in the 8 p.m. half-hour. Although ABC was hoping facing Barack Obama on three networks would benefit Pushing Daisies, the struggling drama could only muster a fourth-place 4.2/ 7 in the overnights. Comparably, that was down by 29 percent from one year earlier (5.9/10 on Oct. 31, 2007). Fifth overall in the 8 p.m. hour was America’s Next Top Model on the CW, with a 3.0/ 5 -- seven percent above the year-ago clips edition (2.8/ 5).

Game 5 of The World Series (Philadelphia vs. Tampa Bay) followed Barack Obama on Fox, delivering an estimated 13.1/20 in the overnights from 8:30-10 p.m. (results for Fox were not available in the 10 p.m. hour). Naturally, this was a solid increase from the network’s year-ago combination of ‘Til Death and Kitchen Nightmares. But the overall series still came in below the year-ago match-up between Boston and Colorado.

Airing on CBS at 8:30 p.m. was The New Adventures of Old Christine (#2, 5.0/ 8), which replaced the regularly scheduled Gary Unmarried. NBC went with a 90-minute edition of Deal or No Deal, which averaged an unimpressive 5.4/ 8 from 8:30-10 p.m. Here is the half-hour breakdown:

Deal or No Deal (NBC)
8:30 p.m. 4.5/ 7 (#3)
9:00 p.m. 5.3/ 8 (#3)
9:30 p.m. 6.5/10 (#3)

Despite facing The World Series, CBS’ Criminal Minds held up well, with a second-place 9.4/14 in the overnights from 9-19 p.m. But competing Private Practice on ABC could not compete with a series-low (and fourth-place) 5.0/ 7. Year-to-year, that was down by 34 percent. In week two news, CW reality/competition Stylista dipped to a 1.6/ 3 -- 50 percent below the second-half of lead-in America’s Next Top Model (3.2/ 6) and down by 16 percent from its already lackluster debut (1.9/ 3 on Oct. 22).

Second behind baseball in the 10 p.m. hour was CBS’ CSI: NY, at a solid 9.2/14. Next was ABC’s struggling Dirty Sexy Money (4.3/ 7: down 26 percent from the year-ago night), followed by NBC’s Friday-bound Lipstick Jungle (4.3/ 7). If Lipstick Jungle cannot compete on Wednesday, there is no reason to believe it will do any better on the lower HUT-level Friday. Sorry Brooke.
