WASHINGTON (AP) — Barack Obama's aunt, a Kenyan woman who has been quietly living in public housing in Boston, is in the United States illegally after an immigration judge rejected her request for asylum four years ago, The Associated Press has learned.
Zeituni Onyango, 56, referred to as "Aunti Zeituni" in Obama's memoir, was instructed to leave the United States by a U.S. immigration judge who denied her asylum request, a person familiar with the matter told the AP late Friday. This person spoke on condition of anonymity because no one was authorized to discuss Onyango's case.
Information about the deportation case was disclosed and confirmed by two separate sources, one of them a federal law enforcment official. The information they made available is known to officials in the federal government, but the AP could not establish whether anyone at a political level in the Bush administration or in the McCain campaign had been involved in its release.
Onyango's refusal to leave the country would represent an administrative, non-criminal violation of U.S. immigration law, meaning such cases are handled outside the criminal court system. Estimates vary, but many experts believe there are more than 10 million such immigrants in the United States.
The AP could not reach Onyango immediately for comment. No one answered the telephone number listed in her name late Friday. It was unclear why her request for asylum was rejected in 2004.

I think it became readily obvious after BHO's European Vacation and non-visit to the wounded US service people in lieu of brandenburg basketball, that the suffering of others was viewed by Obama exclusively in the context of leveraging political advantage. You may be suffering as the result of great sacrifices to others, but if you can't do anything for Obama, you can go to hell. On the flip side, you can be suffering as the result of your own damn stupidity, but if it plays in the media, BHO will be there for ya, man! (at least 'til the cameras start packing up).

In fact, now that the Obama campaign “officially knows” that she made an illegal contribution, they are obliged by Federal Election Law to RETURN her money... How ironic that that would be the first (and last)check she gets from Obama...
For the record — Obama is awful and he deserves everything that happens to him...

Compasionate idea — but at this juncture, would be percieved as too political. Might backfire.
The creation of a Legal Defense Fund for her by someone capable of getting publicity for it would be helpful... and then you could talk about all of the dollars raised to help her and point out that “we are still waiting for a check from Barack and Michelle Obama but they haven’t been in touch.”
Oh, come on, this is hilarious. Don’t you see how funny it is that the guy who imagines himself as President of the United States has a bunch of dubious relatives crawling out from under rocks and embarrassing him? Think of the comedic possibilities of the guy who lives on $1 a week in Africa at a State Dinner, seated next to some white movie star who supported Obama.
The directive for higher-up approval of deportations might be really impressive...IF any illegals were ever deported from this country. I think poor little Elian Gonzalez was the last deportation, and that had to be approved way higher than a regional director.
It reinforces in the undecided’s minds that Obama is African with a Muslim heritage.
There is a “solution” — let the Obamessiah arrange for her to “marry” Barney Frank and get her green card!!
It wouldn’t be any more absurd than the rest of our immigration policy, it would be a nice “marriage of convenience” for both parties, it would help our Obama in this little dilemma, and it would humanize Barney Frank while he’s under hostile scrutiny for his role in the Fannie Mae economic meltdown.

No, they are going to ignore it. AP reported countless stories about Clinton and Lewinsky, yet managed to obfuscate the real story in favor of the "it's only about sex" angle. It's called "hide in plain sight," and I have a feeling this story will be lost in the jumble just before election day.
