A useless piece of information.

Obama and his cohorts will use similar tactics that we say in 2004....judges ordering polls to stay open far past their scheduled time.

A useless piece of information.

Not at all. It will help you track fraud attempts on election night.

Thanks!

Anyone know why there are so many different closing times? Why don’t they all close at eight o’clock?

They already did it here in Atlanta with the early voting. One place stayed open until 1 AM!

Each state gets to apply its own rules.

I was surprised that some states close their polls at 6pm local time.

judges ordering polls to stay open far past their scheduled time.

That's almost a given. But I don't agree that the map is useless.

Just an FYI: those are the codified closing times but expect last minute legal pleas and challenges to extend voting time in key Dem areas of swing states. If this election is as close as it appears to be shaping up the Dems will go into cornered rat mode and scream “voter intimidation, voter suppression,” on every MSM studio rooftop. The NAACP is already suing VA for not having enough machines in minority areas. If they were genuine about this wouldn’t they have been discussing this immediately after 2004? VA has had a D gov since 2002.

Elections are run by the states, so poll-closing times are set by state law.

Indiana, Kentucky, and Florida are split across multiple time zones. So all the polls close at 8pm, but some places close at 8pm EST, and some close at 8pm Central.

New Hampshire has some first in the nation traditions, so there may be a few very small towns where everyone votes right after midnight on election day and they close the polls and count the ballots right away.

I don't know about North Carolina, but they may have some lingering voting rights act provisions or very rural counties in the western part of the state that have special hours.

Arkansas probably just chose 8:30pm as there closing time so they could be alone in getting a mention on the national newscasts.

OK, I used the term ‘useless’ not to impugn anyone’s efforts, but to point out that these times will be violated by the liberals over and over again until they get their desired outcome.

Any bets?

Again, watch Florida. Remember 2000, when the networks called this swing state for Gore before the heavy GOP Panhandle had even closed the polls. Thousands never went to the polls or turned around and went home. It’s reasonable to expect the media to try this again.

I knew that it was up to each state to select its closing time. But I had no idea that the states had made so many different choices. Just wondering the rationale underlying the decisions. (Silly me for attributing rationality to a government decision.)

Arkansas probably just chose 8:30pm as there closing time so they could be alone in getting a mention on the national newscasts.

That's as good as any reason I've heard! LOL!

I found this map and it shows McCain closing the gap.
Baring voter fraud a McCain win is very possible.

Polls in Indiana close a 6, local time. For most of that state that is 6 Eastern as well.

each year the networks try a different stunt

In 2000 it was calling FL and other states b4 the polls closed

In 2004 it was leaking the exit polls

In 2008 we should demand no exit polls released

and start thinking about what other outrageous stunts that will be pulled - my own guess is a rush to the courthouse in major cities to keep the polls open until midnite or afterwards

the fraud in Philadelphia is going to be a nightmare; I hope Team McCain is sending in poll watchers to all precincts - including the suburbs

IF the judges do order longer hours, does the judge also have to ORDER the media to not report any voting results until all polls closed?????

The Florida panhandle is in the central time zone.

When Dan Rather was told that they were reporting poll results too early for Florida, he was totally baffled.

He just couldn’t grasp the fact that Florida had 2 time zones. Deer in the headlights look at it’s best.
