In Iraq, the persecution of Christians continues, as murders and a mass exodus contradict Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's promise of security for everyone. Churches are trying to help the refugees, and some may come to Germany -- if the government settles on a plan.
The long trip from Mosul to Baghdad traverses a bombed highway along the Tigris River, through a wasteland in central Iraq left behind by five years of war. For Rami Kamil, 43, his wife and their children, the journey was an escape from the growing prospect of being murdered in Mosul.
Last Tuesday, at 6 a.m., the family started off in their small green Hyundai. They hid their jewelry and cash under a mountain of towels and sheets, the dowries of the two daughters. The small cross that once dangled from the rear-view mirror had been removed some time ago. Drawing attention to oneself with Christian symbols at checkpoints in Iraq is not a good idea.

ISLAM IS AFRAID OF CHRISTIANITY - plan and simple...
This happened under the current Shi’ite tyranny of the majority that rules Iraq. It would be nice if you more conservatives publicized the religious cleansing from iraq.....but there seems to very little interest in doing that.
To think that we went to Iraq to free the people and give them democracy, and a Christian cannot live there. Totally absurd.
Can anyone provide a link to that story as I'm wondering if she was American or a foreigner.
My belief is that after we eventually pull-out, Iraq will descend into the kind of Muslim Misrule which seems to be the only kind of government they are capable of entertaining aside from a benevolent dictatorship.
What are Christians are experiencing in Iraq is the consequence of a flawed foreign policy. Our objectives in removing Saddam from power were to remove a dangerous dictator who was a threat to us. Trying to evolve these neolithic savages into modern day democrats (small “d”) in a few months or years was the HEIGHT of stupidity.
Saddam should have been replaced with a pro-western dictator, we should have gone on to roll up Syria and Iran and have done the same thing there - then pulled out.
The whole thing would have been over in a few years and we would have been out of there with less loss of lives and money and no damage to Republican or conservative credibility.
But no, Bush, a one-worlder and starry-eyed internationalist liberal screwed it up. He listened to the U.N. and naive neo-cons. Both the Christians there and Israel would be better served with a benevolent western dictator than a government by Sunni and Shiite religious nuts.
That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it. And I support McCain despite that as Obama is a Muslim socialist dedicated to the overthrow of our political and economic system.
A pro-western dictator is no longer in the cards. Now....how do we get others interested? Will they start to care about these Christians if Obama wins? What will it take?
“better served with a benevolent western dictator”
That’s what Maliki was supposed to be. There is no way this will happen, considering the makeup of the population and the various warring factions.
I am becoming convinced that the Rino faction of the GOP is very bit Unchristian as the far left. They just hide it better. Rino’s are in more sympathy with the ideas of the left than in the moral foundations of our society. That is why pro-life issues to homeschooling was NOT passed when Bush had the chance. I would not want to be him at the throne of God on judgment day.
I will continue to pray for our brothers and sisters in the faith in Iraq.
I don’t know.
Also, since they apparently don’t give a rat’s butt what we think when our military is there, why should they care when we leave?
I think westerners have to simply get over the dilusion that Islam is like another flavor of Buddhism or Christianity.
Islam survives and spreads because of what is happening to Christians in Iraq. Until we wake up and confront Muslims HERE and OVER THERE as the murderous cult they are, this will go on.
My suggestion is we offer unlimited asylum in the U.S to anyone of any religious persuasion who is being persecuted for their beleifs in an Islamic Country.
It will save them and perhaps even us by making Americans wise up before we get too many more Islamics over here.
Benevolent dictators don’t run for office and their opponents don’t live to lobby against them.
